Notepad Users, You May Have Been Hacked by China
Suspected Chinese state-backed hackers hijacked the Notepadd++ update infrastructure to deliver a backdoored version of the popular free source code editor and note-taking app for Windows. Infrastructure delivering updates for Notepad++--a widely used text editor for Windows--was compromised for six months by suspected China-state hackers who used their control to deliver backdoored versions of the app to select targets, developers said Monday. "I deeply apologize to all users affected by this hijacking," the author of a post published to the official notepad-plus-plus.org The post said that the attack began last June with an "infrastructure-level compromise that allowed malicious actors to intercept and redirect update traffic destined for notepad-plus-plus.org." The attackers, whom multiple investigators tied to the Chinese government, then selectively redirected certain targeted users to malicious update servers where they received backdoored updates.

Microsoft now confirms you can opt out of, and remove, Windows Recall
Microsoft has released a white paper of sorts outlining what the company is doing to secure user data within Windows Recall, the controversial Windows feature that takes snapshots of your activity for later searching. As of late last night, Microsoft still hasn't said whether they will release Recall to the Windows Insider channels for further testing as originally planned. In fact, Microsoft's paper says very little about Recall as a product or when they will push Recall live to the public. Recall was first launched back in May as part of the Windows 11 24H2 update and it uses the local AI capabilities of Copilot PCs. The idea is that Recall captures periodic snapshots of your screen, then uses optical character recognition plus AI-driven techniques to translate and understand your activity.
'Couture for data': capturing organisational know-how for good - Raconteur
Search for a description of knowledge management (KM) and you're likely to have a better chance of finding an agreed version of the best Avenger hero. Atlassian describes KM as "the process of creating, curating, sharing, using and managing knowledge across an organization, even across industries". Gartner takes a similar view, positing that "KM promotes a collaborative and integrative approach to the creation, capture, organization, access and use of information assets, including the tacit, uncaptured knowledge of people" – but there still remains no single, accepted definition. This positions KM as an esoteric discipline, but consensus suggests that when it is implemented effectively, KM is a collective endeavour; an organisational movement where technology intersects with the levers of people, process, tools and content. Of these parts, people are arguably the key to successfully embedding KM into an organisation.
Responding to Richard Branson, USA TODAY readers share how tech helps them with dyslexia
Business person Brian Beaumont has overcome challenges brought on by dyslexia. Brian Beaumont was a below average student prior to entering graduate school in the early 1980s. So Beaumont, now 60, asked his professors if he could tape their lectures to make better use of his 60- to 90-minute commute time in and around Los Angeles. "I did not realize at the time I was making an accommodation for my dyslexia," Beaumont says. "I had problems listening and taking notes at the same time. Now, I could sit back and just listen to the lecture. I could focus on the main points the professor was making."

Artificial Intelligence: Closing The Gap Between Data And Understanding
This article is by Featured Blogger Daniel Newman from his LinkedIn page. Decades ago, artificial intelligence was a distant concept meant for future generations. We're seeing advancements every day that will make our lives easier and more efficient. And as a way to make big data useful, AI might be a game changer. Data collection has always been an important facet of business, but never before have we been able to access it in such a responsive and useful manner.
How to Win the Big Game Office Pool NVIDIA Blog
With Sunday's big game around the corner, you may be wondering how to outsmart your co-workers to win the office pool. You could stick with the Las Vegas line, which has New England favored to win by three. You could go with the theory that says that Atlanta lost its chance when it opted for red uniforms, as teams wearing white, like New England on Sunday, have won 11 of the last 12 championships. Or you could bet on Swish Analytics' artificial intelligence predictions to give you an edge. If you hate Tom Brady, you'll like what it says for Sunday's game.

The collection is easy, and with digital storage, we can mine that data for real value.
