Audi's Activesphere EV concept is built for off-roading and augmented reality
Audi has finally revealed the Activesphere EV concept it promised last summer. The crossover is built to go off-road, complete with a rugged underbody, a liftable suspension and easy ways to carry your sports gear. The rear can transform into a loading area with enough room for your e-bikes, for instance. It nonetheless features a sedan-like profile and the creature comforts of past concepts, including a spacious, bright interior designed for relaxing while the vehicle is in self-driving mode. The cabin reflects Audi's confidence in augmented reality.

How Audi Will Let Artificial Intelligence Design Its New Wheels
Audi is to use artificial intelligence in their designs moving forward. The marque will start by using FelGAN, an AI software to design their wheels. The Audi of 2022 leads in the automotive industry, With vehicles that have a high level of equipment be that in their SUVs like the Audi Q5 or their wagons like the A6 Avant. The company has to stay on top of all technological development, insuring that they not only compete with their German peers. But they're not the first brand to use AI to design their models.

Audi Is Using Artificial Intelligence To Reinvent The Wheel
Sebastian jumped straight into the workplace after high school. Various vocations in sales, logistics, and project management helped him buy and modify several cars over the years, while his passion for motoring journalism saw him contribute to local print media while running car enthusiast clubs. But in 2019, the opportunity to join CarBuzz arrived. Originally handling reviews of new cars, his love of the technical led to writing detailed blog posts on various aspects of car care and ownership. He currently handles news sourcing, writing, and editing, along with social media management and the clarification of patent lingo.
Reinventing the wheel? FelGAN inspires new rim designs with AI - automobilsport.com
Software enables completely new inspiration in the creative process By keeping AI software development entirely in-house, Audi demonstrates competence in a crucial emerging field Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in all departments: this is the goal Audi has set itself on its way to becoming a data-driven company. With FelGAN, the company now employs software that uses artificial intelligence to open up new sources of inspiration for designers. Creative people are always on the lookout for inspiration. The same is true of the designers who create new wheels at the Audi Design Studio in Ingolstadt. But where to find untapped sources of inspiration?
Audi's next concept EV will be the Activesphere off-roader
Audi still isn't done unveiling self-driving concept EVs, but its next model might be appealing if you're eager to leave the asphalt. The company has revealed that its fourth Sphere concept will be the Activesphere, an SUV-like machine that promises "maximum variability" for on- and off-road travel. As with earlier designs, the automaker is touting an autonomous-friendly interior that can help you relax. We wouldn't count on going hands-free while you're on the trail, but Audi is at least moving beyond city-oriented prototypes. The full Activesphere debut is slated for the start of 2023.

With 5G, AI at the edge promises a compute-everywhere future
Luxury auto maker Audi is driving full-throttle toward Industry 4.0, using AI inference and computer vision on the factory floor with autonomous robot welders that can react in real time and fix issues that may arise when welding the frame of a car. That's just one example of how the company is moving toward realizing its ultimate vision of creating smart factories with a scalable and flexible platform that will enable data analytics, communications and processing at the edge, powered by 5G. In the past, welding required a lot of manual intervention and inspection to ensure sufficient quality, says Nick McKeown, senior vice president and general manager of the network and edge group at Intel, which is working with Audi. Now, with cameras reviewing the quality of the weld the need for human intervention has greatly decreased. "Edge computing is taking the technology resources we've been developing over many years for the computing industry and using them to analyze and process data at the edge", McKeown says.
SXSW 2022 dips toe into the future of mobility
While automotive technology has not traditionally been a core feature at South by Southwest, the annual festival in Austin has, in many respects, been an innovator in finding ways to get people around town. From SXSW shuttle busses, rickshaw-inspired pedicabs and the proliferation of scooters and motorized bicycles, the City of Austin, and South-By in particular, have always made festival navigation relatively simple. For starters, the conference features a dedicated mobility track with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg speaking on Wednesday. A full lineup of panels covering topics like last-mile mobility, the hyperloop, autonomous vehicles, EVs, electric bicycles, personal air vehicles, delivery, drones, and commercial space travel are also featured. For the first time this year, a major part of the conference will feature the involvement and participation of multiple automotive manufacturers.

Feds legalize new lifesaving headlight tech
There's no easy fix to America's supply chain problem, but a major issue is a lack of drivers. Now a new type of scanner called 4-D LiDar offers a possible solution, which could be a huge step forward for self-driving cars and trucks. Anyone who has ever been temporarily blinded by high-beam headlights from an oncoming car will be happy to hear this. Audi's lighting tech can be focused enough to project images on a wall. U.S. highway safety regulators are about to allow new high-tech headlights that can automatically tailor beams so they focus on dark areas of the road and don't create glare for oncoming drivers.

Audi's Grandsphere concept EV is a self-driving living room on wheels
If Audi's Skysphere concept is a driver's car with an autonomous option, the company's follow-up is the polar opposite. The automaker has introduced a Grandsphere concept electric sedan that uses Level 4 self-driving (full autonomy in limited conditions) to help you avoid driving "whenever possible" -- this is a luxurious living room that just happens to let you take the wheel. Invoke the driverless mode and the Grandsphere will'reduce' the wheel and pedals to make it clear you're supposed to relax. The displays are really projections on wooden surfaces that adapt based on whether or not you're driving -- you can watch media or participate in video conferences. While Audi's familiar MMI controls are available in an upright seating position, you can use eye tracking and gestures to navigate the infotainment system while you're reclining.
Audi's Skysphere electric concept car can change size and has a retractable steering wheel
German automaker Audi unveiled its sleek new concept car, Skysphere, which can shift size depending on the driving mode and has a retractable steering column. In a release, the Volkswagen-owned car manufacturer boasted Skysphere was'two vehicles in one': A 623-horsepower sports car that can go from zero to 60 mph in 4 seconds and a'grand touring' (GT) auto that expands the cabin about 10 inches for a roomier ride. In GT mode, the Skysphere is designed to be a Level 4 autonomous vehicle, according to Audi, 'meaning in certain defined road and traffic situations, the driver can delegate complete responsibility to the car and no longer has to intervene.' The luxury auto's rear-mounted electric motor has a range of about 310 miles before it needs a charge. 'This is not rather a car, it's an experience device,' Audi CEO Henrik Wenders, said at the unveiling Tuesday at 2021 Monterey Car Week on Tuesday.
