General Automatic Solution Generation of Social Problems
Niu, Tong, Huang, Haoyu, Du, Yu, Zhang, Weihao, Shi, Luping, Zhao, Rong
Given the escalating intricacy and multifaceted nature of contemporary social systems, manually generating solutions to address pertinent social issues has become a formidable task. In response to this challenge, the rapid development of artificial intelligence has spurred the exploration of computational methodologies aimed at automatically generating solutions. However, current methods for auto-generation of solutions mainly concentrate on local social regulations that pertain to specific scenarios. Here, we report an automatic social operating system (ASOS) designed for general social solution generation, which is built upon agent-based models, enabling both global and local analyses and regulations of social problems across spatial and temporal dimensions. ASOS adopts a hypergraph with extensible social semantics for a comprehensive and structured representation of social dynamics. It also incorporates a generalized protocol for standardized hypergraph operations and a symbolic hybrid framework that delivers interpretable solutions, yielding a balance between regulatory efficacy and function viability. To demonstrate the effectiveness of ASOS, we apply it to the domain of averting extreme events within international oil futures markets. By generating a new trading role supplemented by new mechanisms, ASOS can adeptly discern precarious market conditions and make front-running interventions for non-profit purposes. This study demonstrates that ASOS provides an efficient and systematic approach for generating solutions for enhancing our society.

LexxPluss expands into US with its warehouse robots
When Masaya Aso worked on autonomous driving technology at Bosch in Japan and Germany, he realized that "many tasks were still manual as over 85% of warehouses have almost no automation at all." To help address the problem, Aso co-founded LexxPluss, a now two-year-old, Japan-based startup that designs and develop autonomous mobile robots to transport loads and optimize workflows within warehouses and logistic sites. Aso, who is CEO of the outfit, co-founded it with robotics and autonomous vehicle veterans from Bosch, Amazon, Honda and more, and now the Japanese outfit is preparing to enter the U.S. with a fresh injection of about $10.7 million (1.45 billion JPY) of Series A funding that values the company at approximately $38.8 million (5.26 billion yen). Drone Fund led the latest financing along with SOSV's HAX, Incubate Fund, SBI investment and DBJ Capital. LexxPlus initially targeted the logistics and automotive manufacturing spaces because those spaces are actively deploying robots beyond their production lines.

How AI can take optimised healthcare resource utilisation to the next level
Improving operational efficiency has emerged as a priority for healthcare facilities as they seek predictive ways to manage and allocate resources at a time of ever-increasing demand for their services. Many of them are now turning to AI as a key enabler of a more progressive approach, helping them to plan their logistical responses based on the latest data – and maintain their focus on delivering end-to-end patient care of the highest quality. A growing patient load creates significant operational challenges, not least for the management of the patient experience itself. For example, where appointment schedules are not properly optimised, the disruption to patient flow throughout a facility can have a significant impact on waiting times. Providers need to be able to sustain a consistent flow of patients and visitors, and meet it with appropriate resources, including clinical staff, hospital beds and operating theatres, at every stage of the patient journey.
Google Assistant makes it easier to go clothes shopping on Asos
Looking at clothes to buy online can be therapeutic, but sometimes you just want to quickly find something to wear for an impromptu event without having to wade through thousands of choices. Asos is giving you a way to do that using Google Assistant -- you simply have to say "Hey Google, talk to Asos" to summon its shopping bot Enki through your smart speaker or the Assistant app on Android or iOS. You can then tell Enki what listings you'd like to see, like say, fleece cardigans for layering or the newest additions to the store. Asos says it will use what it learns from this initial launch to continue improving and refining the feature. You can use the feature right now by talking to Assistant on your phone or speaker or taking the the Action for a spin right here.
YellowHead launches data visualization for app store optimization
Sometimes it's not just the data you have that makes a difference for your mobile app or game business. It's also about how you look at it, according to digital marketing agency YellowHead. YellowHead has specialized in app store optimization (ASO), or obtaining mobile users by optimizing an app for the way it can be discovered in an app store. As the cost of user acquisition soars, mobile game and app developers need alternatives. With app store optimization, developers make sure that their keywords, descriptions, icons, and metadata make their app easily discoverable amid a sea of a few million apps.

Asos adds search-by-photo to its fashion ecommerce app
Computer vision continues to find its way into all sorts of apps as the underlying tech powering convenience-oriented image searches. Latest -- and it must be said late -- to the party is fashion ecommerce player Asos, which has just added a visual search feature to its iOS app. The update lets iOS users snap a photo of a garment or fashion accessory with their device camera or pull in an existing outfit shot or Instagram screengrab (say) from their camera roll and have the app show clothes items that are at least in the general fashion ballpark of whatever it is they're trying to find. Asos says the visual search will be rolled out to their Android app "soon". The company says 80 per cent of UK traffic for ASOS comes from a mobile device, as do almost 70 per cent of UK orders -- with consumers spending 80 minutes per month on average in the app.

Asos app allows shoppers to snap up fashion
"Ryan Gosling is my favourite actor so I'm going to look like him," says the Asos chief executive, Nick Beighton. "Here's a picture of Ryan looking cool so I'd like something to make me look like just like him. There we go, a printed T-shirt, add it to bag and away we go." Beighton is not waving a magic wand, he's demonstrating new technology that promises to change the way we shop. From seeing something you like to having a parcel winging its way to your home is now possible within seconds as new technologies reboot retailers' websites for the smartphone age.
