Of Mice and Mates: Automated Classification and Modelling of Mouse Behaviour in Groups using a Single Model across Cages
Camilleri, Michael P. J., Bains, Rasneer S., Williams, Christopher K. I.
Behavioural experiments often happen in specialised arenas, but this may confound the analysis. To address this issue, we provide tools to study mice in the homecage environment, equipping biologists with the possibility to capture the temporal aspect of the individual's behaviour and model the interaction and interdependence between cage-mates with minimal human intervention. We develop the Activity Labelling Module (ALM) to automatically classify mouse behaviour from video, and a novel Group Behaviour Model (GBM) for summarising their joint behaviour across cages, using a permutation matrix to match the mouse identities in each cage to the model. We also release two datasets, ABODe for training behaviour classifiers and IMADGE for modelling behaviour.
AbODE: Ab Initio Antibody Design using Conjoined ODEs
Verma, Yogesh, Heinonen, Markus, Garg, Vikas
Antibodies are Y-shaped proteins that neutralize pathogens and constitute the core of our adaptive immune system. De novo generation of new antibodies that target specific antigens holds the key to accelerating vaccine discovery. However, this co-design of the amino acid sequence and the 3D structure subsumes and accentuates some central challenges from multiple tasks, including protein folding (sequence to structure), inverse folding (structure to sequence), and docking (binding). We strive to surmount these challenges with a new generative model AbODE that extends graph PDEs to accommodate both contextual information and external interactions. Unlike existing approaches, AbODE uses a single round of full-shot decoding and elicits continuous differential attention that encapsulates and evolves with latent interactions within the antibody as well as those involving the antigen. We unravel fundamental connections between AbODE and temporal networks as well as graph-matching networks. The proposed model significantly outperforms existing methods on standard metrics across benchmarks.
Abode's entry-level Smart Home Security Kit only costs $160 but drops HomeKit support
Abode is launching a new Smart Home Security Kit that will integrate with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and the Google Nest line of products. The entry-level kit includes the Abode Security Hub, a mini door/window sensor and a keyfob. The company is previously known for its line of DIY home security systems, which faces increased competition from the likes of Amazon, ADT, SimpliSafe and Cove Security. The new system will also be able to integrate with Amazon and Google's smart home systems if you already have your devices like an Echo or Nest Home. Naturally, that means hands-free control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
Abode will add HomeKit to its new smart home hub
Abode has revealed its Gen 2 gateway, and it's "100% committed" to bringing HomeKit support to the platform. More details will come "soon," the company said. However, this already makes it one of the more flexible hubs to date. It can already communicate with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT, and it supports a raft of smart home devices using Z-Wave Plus, Zigbee and Abode's own abodeRF. Outside of HomeKit, Gen 2 is mainly notable for its inclusion of 4G cellular data backup on some models (if you subscribe to a plan) as well as the addition of Z-Wave Plus. It's clearly designed with home security in mind thanks a built-in battery for home security as well as a 93db siren.
An Advanced DIY Home Security System: Stay Safe And Avoid Fees
Home security systems are a bit like cars: the price is never the price. First there's the cost of the unit, but then installation turns out to be a big expense, and service fees build up month after month. The "DIY" home security system has always been an attractive solution, but technologically incapable of doing a good enough job for most people's liking. Now, advanced camera, networking, and AI technology mean that we can finally build a powerful home security system from self-installed components and no ongoing supervision required. Abode is an advanced home security monitoring and home automation system, and even the "starter" kit features a wide array of gadgets to secure your home. The central gateway, or hub, runs the system and connects to an included mini door/window sensor and a motion sensor, all controllable with the included remote KeyFob.
Abode home security system review: Flexible, easy to install, and readily expandable
DIY home security systems aren't a new thing, but developers are slowly working the kinks out of what can often be a complicated system with lots of moving parts that, should a single component fail, could result in catastrophic consequences. That's good news for homeowners concerned about their safety, but who might be shy about paying thousands of dollars for a traditional system. Abode hit the scene three years ago, and it now offers a wide array of home security products that's deep enough to outfit just about any home or business. At the core lies Abode's Secure Bundle starter kit ($429 after the currently offered 40-percent discount), which includes the gateway, two door/window sensors, an indoor motion sensor with still camera, a remote control key fob, a backup cellular radio, and one year of professional monitoring and cellular backup. Those who prefer self monitoring can acquire the same hardware for $299, but the cellular radio won't be activated.
