The real win of AI PCs? Battery life
In 2022-2023, AI-powered PCs made quite a splash with their automatic generation and built-in virtual assistants. Those features are cool, sure, but they're a little gimmicky at first blush. That said, amid the hype, the real standout feature emerged: battery life. Thanks to smarter resource management and power-efficient chip architecture, AI PCs became long-lasting devices that didn't need to be plugged in all the time. Let's take flying cross-country with a traditional laptop, for instance.
OpenAI is buying Windsurf for 3 billion. What does that mean for ChatGPT?
OpenAI is buying AI startup Windsurf for the tidy sum of 3 billion. This is according to a Bloomberg report Tuesday, which claims that the two companies have reached an agreement but that the deal "has not yet closed," with Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter. If accurate, this would be OpenAI's largest acquisition to date. Windsurf is an artificial intelligence app that focuses on coding. Formerly known as Codeium, Windsurf is self-described as "the future of software development."

Your Oura Ring can now track meals and monitor glucose levels
On May 6, Oura Ring announced that it is bringing two new features to its smart ring app -- AI-powered meal tracking and glucose monitoring. Oura Ring is the best smart ring on the market (according to Mashable's tests, at least), and its holistic approach to health tracking helps users make decisions to improve their wellbeing. Now, the company is launching two new metabolic health tools in its app. Oura's glucose monitoring is a result of the brand's Dexcom partnership. Dexcom, a healthcare company specializing in round-the-clock glucose monitoring, usually specializes in diabetes management, but their Stelo Glucose Biosensor is made for individuals with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes who are not on insulin.
Your Oura Ring just got one of its biggest feature updates ever - for free
Two health tech brands, Oura and Dexcom, are joining forces for one major metabolic health update. On Tuesday, Oura announced a first-of-its-kind integration with Stelo, Dexcom's over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor (CGM), that will now display glucose data on the smart ring's app for a wider illustration of how sleep, exercise, and diet play a role in glucose management. Also: Oura's CEO wants its smart ring to be the doctor in your pocket The smart ring already displays this information on its app. However, thanks to the Stelo integration, users will see how these factors contribute to high, low, or maintained glucose levels and keep track of their levels in one place. Unlike sleep and activity on Oura, the Glucose feature won't give users a score.
'Computer, do this.' Windows PCs take a cue from Star Trek's AI
It's been one future that sci-fi has promised since Star Trek. Microsoft now says that that future is arriving, at least within a small corner of Windows 11. Microsoft is promising that you'll be able to use natural language to change aspects of your Windows 11 Settings menu, and Windows will go out and make those changes for you using "agents," or small bits of AI that will work on your behalf -- at least if you own a Copilot PC with an AI-accelerating NPU onboard. Microsoft has begun to use its Surface devices as a showcase for its latest software, and the new 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro are no exception. They'll serve as launch vehicles for Windows Recall, semantic search, and Click-to-Do, but also brand new features like agentic AI and relighting features for Photos, object editing and sticker generation for Paint, and more.

Now he's founding a Don't Die religion. Johnson, who famously spends millions of dollars on scans, tests, supplements, and a lifestyle routine designed to slow or reverse the aging process, has enjoyed extensive media coverage, and a huge social media following. For many people, he has become the face of the longevity field.
Drop Duchy review – a sprawling challenge disguised as a block-dropping puzzler
The indie video game scene is currently dominated by two unassailable genre titans: the rogue-like and the deck-builder. The first is a type of action adventure in which players explore procedurally generated landscapes, where they battle enemies, level up and then die – whereupon they start all over again from scratch. The latter is about building decks of collectible cards (think Pokémon or Magic: The Gathering, but digital) and fighting with them. Titles that combine both in interesting ways – such as Balatro and Slay the Spire – can become huge crossover hits. But the market is getting saturated and so developers are having to find new genres to mix into this potent game design cocktail.
How Is Elon Musk Powering His Supercomputer?
Since Elon Musk announced that he'll be stepping back from his daily work with DOGE, perhaps you've been wondering if he has anything else to fill that time now that he's shut down operations at America's humanitarian-aid provider, wrecked much of the nation's scientific-research infrastructure, and disputed the communications systems at the Social Security Administration. One way to find out would be to ask Grok, his entry in the A.I. sweepstakes. "Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, has been making significant moves in Memphis," Grok reports. "But these have sparked controversy." The Lede Reporting and commentary on what you need to know today.
