IoT and AI in the future of mobile: what role for cloud computing?

Let's have a look at forecast numbers: according to Gartner, the worldwide public cloud services market is projected to grow by 18% in 2017 to total $246.8 billion, up from $209.2 billion in 2016. The highest growth will likely stem from cloud system infrastructure services (IaaS), which is projected to grow 36.8% in 2017 to reach $34.6 billion. Cloud application services (SaaS) are expected to grow by 20.1%, thus reaching $46.3 billion. Interestingly, the core trends influencing this growth will just be the three above mentioned: mobile, AI and IoT. "The additional demand from the migration of infrastructure to the cloud and increased demand from increasingly compute-intensive workloads (such as artificial intelligence, analytics and Internet of Things), both in the enterprise and startup spaces, are driving this growth" Gartner explains.
