Fears of bots in the workplace are likely overblown

Journalists have expended a lot of ink covering AI's potential to eliminate jobs. Examples cited include autonomous vehicles, machines that read X-rays and search for new drugs, and algorithm-driven bots that respond to customer service inquiries. Along with a lot of hand-wringing, these advances have spurred increasingly serious discussions about the need to provide a guaranteed minimum income if there are no longer enough jobs to go around. Many headlines suggest that AI and related technologies will lead to a largely jobless future -- as detailed in a recent article on NBC News.
