Sony will demo 3D facial recognition technology this week
Unlocking your phone could soon be as easy as taking a selfie, if new technology being demonstrated this week is to be believed. Researchers from Sony have created a front-facing 3D camera and 3D face recognition system that could let users authenticate themselves with one photo. The software will be demonstrated on an Xperia smartphone at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai, which starts tomorrow. A 3D camera - sometimes called a stereo camera - is one that can record images that will appear to have three dimensions to them. When these two pictures with different perspectives combine, the picture or video captured creates the illusion of depth.
