A good reading on AI

#artificialintelligence

The topic of artificial intelligence is taking hold gradually. However, for now only journalists talk about it, with high-sounding titles and short articles on the margins of national newspapers. So I decided to read what to date is the main popular text on the topic of artificial intelligence and its implications: Life 3.0. The book is about 450 pages, and dissects the theme starting from the technical/theoretical bases, defining the concept of intelligence and conscience and then going on to talk about the possible future developments of long and very long term. Particularly interesting is the chapter on the possible long-term scenarios, where with excellent science-fiction imagination, 12 different scenarios are presented, ranging from libertarian utopias, to dystopian regimes, human or machine domination, human extinction, or AI non-present . Finally, the author has contributed to founding the Future of Life Institute (FLI), an organisation that aims to investigate and research the safety of AI, with an optimistic and open look to the future.
