Explainable Fuzzy Neural Network with Multi-Fidelity Reinforcement Learning for Micro-Architecture Design Space Exploration
Fan, Hanwei, Wang, Ya, Li, Sicheng, Liang, Tingyuan, Zhang, Wei
With the continuous advancement of processors, modern micro-architecture designs have become increasingly complex. The vast design space presents significant challenges for human designers, making design space exploration (DSE) algorithms a significant tool for $\mu$-arch design. In recent years, efforts have been made in the development of DSE algorithms, and promising results have been achieved. However, the existing DSE algorithms, e.g., Bayesian Optimization and ensemble learning, suffer from poor interpretability, hindering designers' understanding of the decision-making process. To address this limitation, we propose utilizing Fuzzy Neural Networks to induce and summarize knowledge and insights from the DSE process, enhancing interpretability and controllability. Furthermore, to improve efficiency, we introduce a multi-fidelity reinforcement learning approach, which primarily conducts exploration using cheap but less precise data, thereby substantially diminishing the reliance on costly data. Experimental results show that our method achieves excellent results with a very limited sample budget and successfully surpasses the current state-of-the-art. Our DSE framework is open-sourced and available at https://github.com/fanhanwei/FNN\_MFRL\_ArchDSE/\ .
A novel ML-fuzzy control system for optimizing PHEV fuel efficiency and extending electric range under diverse driving conditions
Raeesi, Mehrdad, Mansour, Saba, Changizian, Sina
Aiming for a greener transportation future, this study introduces an innovative control system for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that utilizes machine learning (ML) techniques to forecast energy usage in the pure electric mode of the vehicle and optimize power allocation across different operational modes, including pure electric, series hybrid, parallel hybrid, and internal combustion operation. The fuzzy logic decision-making process governs the vehicle control system. The performance was assessed under various driving conditions. Key findings include a significant enhancement in pure electric mode efficiency, achieving an extended full-electric range of approximately 84 kilometers on an 80% utilization of a 20-kWh battery pack. During the WLTC driving cycle, the control system reduced fuel consumption to 2.86 L/100km, representing a 20% reduction in gasoline-equivalent fuel consumption. Evaluations of vehicle performance at discrete driving speeds, highlighted effective energy management, with the vehicle battery charging at lower speeds and discharging at higher speeds, showing optimized energy recovery and consumption strategies. Initial battery charge levels notably influenced vehicle performance. A 90% initial charge enabled prolonged all-electric operation, minimizing fuel consumption to 2 L/100km less than that of the base control system. Real-world driving pattern analysis revealed significant variations, with shorter, slower cycles requiring lower fuel consumption due to prioritized electric propulsion, while longer, faster cycles increased internal combustion engine usage. The control system also adapted to different battery state of health (SOH) conditions, with higher SOH facilitating extended electric mode usage, reducing total fuel consumption by up to 2.87 L/100km.

With consistent growth in Indian Economy, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) have become a popular avenue for investment. With the modern technology simplifying investments, more investors are interested in making data driven decisions while subscribing for IPOs. In this paper, we describe a machine learning and natural language processing based approach for estimating if an IPO will be successful. We have extensively studied the impact of various facts mentioned in IPO filing prospectus, macroeconomic factors, market conditions, Grey Market Price, etc. on the success of an IPO. We created two new datasets relating to the IPOs of Indian companies. Finally, we investigated how information from multiple modalities (texts, images, numbers, and categorical features) can be used for estimating the direction and underpricing with respect to opening, high and closing prices of stocks on the IPO listing day.

Jamalifard, Mohammadreza, Andreu-Perez, Javier, Hagras, Hani, Lรณpez, Luis Martรญnez
As the data resources grow, providing recommendations that best meet the demands has become a vital requirement in business and life to overcome the information overload problem. However, building a system suggesting relevant recommendations has always been a point of debate. One of the most cost-efficient techniques in terms of producing relevant recommendations at a low complexity is Product Quantization (PQ). PQ approaches have continued developing in recent years. This system's crucial challenge is improving product quantization performance in terms of recall measures without compromising its complexity. This makes the algorithm suitable for problems that require a greater number of potentially relevant items without disregarding others, at high-speed and low-cost to keep up with traffic. This is the case of online shops where the recommendations for the purpose are important, although customers can be susceptible to scoping other products. This research proposes a fuzzy approach to perform norm-based product quantization. Type-2 Fuzzy sets (T2FSs) define the codebook allowing sub-vectors (T2FSs) to be associated with more than one element of the codebook, and next, its norm calculus is resolved by means of integration. Our method finesses the recall measure up, making the algorithm suitable for problems that require querying at most possible potential relevant items without disregarding others. The proposed method outperforms all PQ approaches such as NEQ, PQ, and RQ up to +6%, +5%, and +8% by achieving a recall of 94%, 69%, 59% in Netflix, Audio, Cifar60k datasets, respectively. More and over, computing time and complexity nearly equals the most computationally efficient existing PQ method in the state-of-the-art.
Superhypergraph Neural Networks and Plithogenic Graph Neural Networks: Theoretical Foundations
Hypergraphs extend traditional graphs by allowing edges to connect multiple nodes, while superhypergraphs further generalize this concept to represent even more complex relationships. Neural networks, inspired by biological systems, are widely used for tasks such as pattern recognition, data classification, and prediction. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), a well-established framework, have recently been extended to Hypergraph Neural Networks (HGNNs), with their properties and applications being actively studied. The Plithogenic Graph framework enhances graph representations by integrating multi-valued attributes, as well as membership and contradiction functions, enabling the detailed modeling of complex relationships. In the context of handling uncertainty, concepts such as Fuzzy Graphs and Neutrosophic Graphs have gained prominence. It is well established that Plithogenic Graphs serve as a generalization of both Fuzzy Graphs and Neutrosophic Graphs. Furthermore, the Fuzzy Graph Neural Network has been proposed and is an active area of research. This paper establishes the theoretical foundation for the development of SuperHyperGraph Neural Networks (SHGNNs) and Plithogenic Graph Neural Networks, expanding the applicability of neural networks to these advanced graph structures. While mathematical generalizations and proofs are presented, future computational experiments are anticipated.
A Delay-free Control Method Based On Function Approximation And Broadcast For Robotic Surface And Multiactuator Systems
Robotic surface consisting of many actuators can change shape to perform tasks, such as facilitating human-machine interactions and transporting objects. Increasing the number of actuators can enhance the robot's capacity, but controlling them requires communication bandwidth to increase equally in order to avoid time delays. We propose a novel control method that has constant time delays no matter how many actuators are in the robot. Having a distributed nature, the method first approximates target shapes, then broadcasts the approximation coefficients to the actuators, and relies on themselves to compute the inputs. We build a robotic pin array and measure the time delay as a function of the number of actuators to confirm the system size-independent scaling behavior. The shape-changing ability is achieved based on function approximation algorithms, i.e. discrete cosine transform or matching pursuit. We perform experiments to approximate target shapes and make quantitative comparison with those obtained from standard sequential control method. A good agreement between the experiments and theoretical predictions is achieved, and our method is more efficient in the sense that it requires less control messages to generate shapes with the same accuracy. Our method is also capable of dynamic tasks such as object manipulation.

A review on Machine Learning based User-Centric Multimedia Streaming Techniques
Ghosh, Monalisa, Singhal, Chetna
The multimedia content and streaming are a major means of information exchange in the modern era and there is an increasing demand for such services. This coupled with the advancement of future wireless networks B5G/6G and the proliferation of intelligent handheld mobile devices, has facilitated the availability of multimedia content to heterogeneous mobile users. Apart from the conventional video, the 360$^o$ videos have gained popularity with the emerging virtual reality applications. All formats of videos (conventional and 360$^o$) undergo processing, compression, and transmission across dynamic wireless channels with restricted bandwidth to facilitate the streaming services. This causes video impairments, leading to quality degradation and poses challenges in delivering good Quality-of-Experience (QoE) to the viewers. The QoE is a prominent subjective quality measure to assess multimedia services. This requires end-to-end QoE evaluation. Efficient multimedia streaming techniques can improve the service quality while dealing with dynamic network and end-user challenges. A paradigm shift in user-centric multimedia services is envisioned with a focus on Machine Learning (ML) based QoE modeling and streaming strategies. This survey paper presents a comprehensive overview of the overall and continuous, time varying QoE modeling for the purpose of QoE management in multimedia services. It also examines the recent research on intelligent and adaptive multimedia streaming strategies, with a special emphasis on ML based techniques for video (conventional and 360$^o$) streaming. This paper discusses the overall and continuous QoE modeling to optimize the end-user viewing experience, efficient video streaming with a focus on user-centric strategies, associated datasets for modeling and streaming, along with existing shortcoming and open challenges.
