The Online Dating Industry Loves Artificial Intelligence
Millennials have become a growing force in society. Compared to their predecessors, the generation that grew with the Internet and electronic devices is considered more adept at adapting to new ideas and more open-minded regarding the unconventional. When it comes to Millennial relationships, online dating is a rapid-growing industry, with more than 1500 dating apps and websites operating around the world. According to Statista, online dating industry revenues reached US1.66 billion in 2019 and are expected to continue growing at an annual rate of 4.2 percent until 2023. Instead of having users simply swipe through headshots, many new dating apps and online platforms are leveraging artificial intelligence to introduce a variety of novel approaches to smart matchmaking.
A Drug Recommendation System (Dr.S) for cancer cell lines
Personalizing drug prescriptions in cancer care based on genomic information requires associating genomic markers with treatment effects. This is an unsolved challenge requiring genomic patient data in yet unavailable volumes as well as appropriate quantitative methods. We attempt to solve this challenge for an experimental proxy for which sufficient data is available: 42 drugs tested on 1018 cancer cell lines. Our goal is to develop a method to identify the drug that is most promising based on a cell line's genomic information. For this, we need to identify for each drug the machine learning method, choice of hyperparameters and genomic features for optimal predictive performance.
Artificial Intelligence in Restaurant Business
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has paved a new way for innovations that have transcended any other technology's impact on society. Influencing and becoming a critical aspect of many industries, AI has become an important asset to possess. The restaurant business is no stranger to AI either. AI for restaurant business has seen a huge surge in terms of demand and necessity in the past decade. The implementation of AI for businesses has shown strongly about how big of a positive impact AI can provide.
Marvel star Simu Liu, 30, asks Sharon Stone, 61, out on date after she's booted from Bumble dating app
Actress Sharon Stone has been reinstated on Bumble after revealing that her account was blocked when users reported her profile as fake. No wingman is needed when celebrities ask out other stars. Such was the case for Marvel star Simu Liu when he took his shot at actress Sharon Stone, 61, who was booted from the dating app Bumble after her profile was flagged as fraudulent. The 30-year-old Chinese-Canadian actor wasted no time in putting the moves on Stone via social media. "Hey, I don't have bumble but uhโฆ what are you doing like six months from now?" This simple trick stops Google, Amazon and Facebook from listening to you all the time
Smart home devices from Google, Amazon and Facebook are engineered to listen for your commands and respond to them. Usually, they only engage when you say your "wake" word such as "OK, Google" or "Hey, Google." But, these devices are always listening. If that makes you uneasy (and here are some reasons of whyit might), there's a simple fix to stop your smart-home companion from listening in onyou all the time. Turn off the microphones on the devices when you are not using them or for short periods of time when you don't want them eavesdropping.
Samsung's Mysterious Human-Like AI Assistant 'NEON' To Be Unveiled At CES 2020
Samsung Technology & Advanced Research Labs, more commonly known as STAR Labs, is all geared up to showcase an artificial intelligence product at CES 2020. STAR Labs is an independent entity of Samsung Electronics and is headed by President & CEO Pranav Mistry who is popularly known for his work on SixthSense. At the time being, the company hasn't revealed much about what Neon is. But their tagline of "Have you ever met an'ARTIFICIAL?", that is sprayed over all social media channels, does suggest that it has to do something regarding artificial intelligence. What SiFi movies have just started exploring, the Indian born scientist @pranavmistry is bringing soon to your home.
Modeling and Counteracting Exposure Bias in Recommender Systems
Khenissi, Sami, Nasraoui, Olfa
What we discover and see online, and consequently our opinions and decisions, are becoming increasingly affected by automated machine learned predictions. Similarly, the predictive accuracy of learning machines heavily depends on the feedback data that we provide them. This mutual influence can lead to closed-loop interactions that may cause unknown biases which can be exacerbated after several iterations of machine learning predictions and user feedback. Machine-caused biases risk leading to undesirable social effects ranging from polarization to unfairness and filter bubbles. In this paper, we study the bias inherent in widely used recommendation strategies such as matrix factorization. Then we model the exposure that is borne from the interaction between the user and the recommender system and propose new debiasing strategies for these systems. Finally, we try to mitigate the recommendation system bias by engineering solutions for several state of the art recommender system models. Our results show that recommender systems are biased and depend on the prior exposure of the user. We also show that the studied bias iteratively decreases diversity in the output recommendations. Our debiasing method demonstrates the need for alternative recommendation strategies that take into account the exposure process in order to reduce bias. Our research findings show the importance of understanding the nature of and dealing with bias in machine learning models such as recommender systems that interact directly with humans, and are thus causing an increasing influence on human discovery and decision making

Samsung teases mysterious AI called 'Neon' that its says is smart enough to be your 'best friend'
Samsung is gearing up to unveil a new artificial intelligence that it says will be smart enough to become one's'best friend.' The AI, called Neon, will be unveiled in the coming week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and according to Samsung, will go above and beyond the capabilities of the tech giant's current voice assistant, 'Bixby.' 'Honored to have so much coverage even before we unveil. But contrary to some news, NEON is NOT about Bixby, or anything you have seen before. While details about what Neon will actually do are sparse, the company has suggested that it will be smart enough to act as a kind of AI companion, or'best friend.' Samsung has also been careful about the language it has used to describe Neon.
