Tinder is adding a'panic button' to its app that will allow people to alert the police if they feel unsafe while out on a date. It will be rolled out to users of the dating service from the end of January in the USA, according to a Wall Street Journal report. They will use a technology that tracks the location of users and notifies authorities of any safety issues that is built by company Noonlight. Tinder has not said when or if the service will be rolled out to the rest of the world. 'You should run a dating business as if you are a mom,' Mandy Ginsberg, CEO of Tinder parent company Match Group, told the Wall Street Journal.

What they all have in common are women's names and the standard female voice, such as Lu, Siri, Alexa, Nat, Bia, etc. According to a study entitled "I'd Blush If I Could" published by UNESCO in May 2019, virtual assistants via Artificial Intelligence suffer from high levels of gender prejudice, although they usually answer with tolerant, subservient and passive phrases. Recommender systems often face heterogeneous datasets containing highly personalized historical data of users, where no single model could give the best recommendation for every user. We observe this ubiquitous phenomenon on both public and private datasets and address the model selection problem in pursuit of optimizing the quality of recommendation for each user. We propose a meta-learning framework to facilitate user-level adaptive model selection in recommender systems. In this framework, a collection of recommenders is trained with data from all users, on top of which a model selector is trained via meta-learning to select the best single model for each user with the user-specific historical data. We conduct extensive experiments on two public datasets and a real-world production dataset, demonstrating that our proposed framework achieves improvements over single model baselines and sample-level model selector in terms of AUC and LogLoss. In particular, the improvements may lead to huge profit gain when deployed in online recommender systems.

In a bid to "make science fiction a reality", Samsung's future factory STAR Labs has developed Neon, AI-powered virtual beings that look and behave like real humans. Unlike artificially intelligent (AI) assistants like Siri or Alexa, STAR Labs' computationally created beings aren't programmed to be "know-it-all bots" or an interface to answer users' questions and demands. Instead, the avatars are designed to converse and sympathise "like real people" in order to act as hyper lifelike companions. "We have always dreamed of such virtual beings in science fictions and movies," said STAR Labs CEO Pranav Mistry. "Neons will integrate with our world and serve as new links to a better future, a world where'humans are humans' and'machines are humane'," he continued.
