Be Your Own Boss & Make Money With Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is one of the most revolutionary technologies of our time and you can make money out of it. Every industry in today's time is powered by AI as businesses are using it as a competitive tool. From chatbots for efficient customer service to using it for analytics to make predictive recommendations, artificial intelligence is leading the world forward. That makes AI an unmissable technology. If you are in the IT industry, you must be habituated to use programming languages, work with different frameworks, build software for companies, and write various codes to escalate problems.

Matrix Completion with Model-free Weighting

arXiv.org Machine Learning

In this paper, we propose a novel method for matrix completion under general non-uniform missing structures. By controlling an upper bound of a novel balancing error, we construct weights that can actively adjust for the non-uniformity in the empirical risk without explicitly modeling the observation probabilities, and can be computed efficiently via convex optimization. The recovered matrix based on the proposed weighted empirical risk enjoys appealing theoretical guarantees. In particular, the proposed method achieves a stronger guarantee than existing work in terms of the scaling with respect to the observation probabilities, under asymptotically heterogeneous missing settings (where entry-wise observation probabilities can be of different orders). These settings can be regarded as a better theoretical model of missing patterns with highly varying probabilities. We also provide a new minimax lower bound under a class of heterogeneous settings. Numerical experiments are also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Microsoft Outlook on iOS adds voice dictation for emails, search and calendar invites

Engadget

Since 2019, Microsoft's Cortana personal assistant has allowed you to listen to emails that land in your Outlook mobile inbox. Nearly two years later, Microsoft is making voice a much more significant part of the Outlook experience. Starting with the iOS version of the software (with Android to follow), you can use your voice to dictate emails, schedule meetings and conduct searches. To access Outlook's new capabilities, tap the plus icon floating above the app's main navigation bar and then press the "Use Voice" prompt. You can ask Cortana things like "When's my next team meeting?" or for more complex requests like "Set up a meeting with Jill and her team for next Monday about the Q1 budget."

Artificial Intelligence in the Pharma Industry: Clinical Trials

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence has played an increasingly important role within the pharmaceutical space especially with recent restrictions due to COVID-19. The drug development process can be lengthy and costly but many companies have begun implementing AI into their clinical trials to speed up patient on-site visits, test efficacy and bring more drugs to market. As we discussed previously, AI has played an important role in the discovery process. Now let's take a look at AI in clinical trialsโ€ฆ PRNewswire reports the global virtual clinical trials market size is expected to reach 11.5 billion USD by 2028 with a compound annual growth rate of 5.7% from 2021 to 2028 according to Grand View Research, Inc. The growth in the virtual clinical trial space is directly related to the need for an increase in patient diversity and an increase in the number of decentralized/virtual trials due to the impact of COVID-19.

Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) review: A worthy mid-range smart display

PCWorld

If you've decided that Alexa is the digital assistant you want in your home, the Echo Show 8 is an excellent mid-range smart display. If you've settled on Google Assistant instead and deployed a lot of those speakers, there's probably nothing here that would make starting over a worthwhile endeavor. The Echo Show 8 has a bright, vibrant 8-inch touchscreen display with moderate resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and very good off-axis viewing angles; a pair of 2.0-inch built-in speakers, plus a passive radiator, that deliver pleasing background music; and a 13-megapixel, wide-angle camera that digitally pans and zooms to keep you in the frame when making video calls. It's a worthy successor to the first-gen Echo Show 8, and enough of a step up to warrant ditching the one you already have--especially if you want to move the first-gen model into another room. And if you're using Echo devices to control your smart home, it's almost impossible to have too many of them around the house.

MBA in Artificial Intelligence Digital Marketing: Term 2.1

#artificialintelligence

Welcome to the first course in Term 2 as part of the series "MBA in Artificial Intelligence Digital Marketing". Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to be a unique technology of making a machine, a robot fully autonomous. AI is an analysis of how the machine is thinking, studying, determining, and functioning when it is trying to solve problems. These kinds of problems are present in all fields, the most emerging ones, and even beyond. The aim of Artificial Intelligence is to enhance machine functions relating to human knowledge, such as reasoning, learning, and problems along with the ability to manipulate things.

Multi-output Gaussian Processes for Uncertainty-aware Recommender Systems

arXiv.org Machine Learning

A database describing such user-item interactions often takes the form of a matrix, where each entry describes the interaction between one user and one item. The overall Recommender systems are often designed based rating or purchasing pattern of a user can therefore be described on a collaborative filtering approach, where user by the corresponding row in such a matrix. However, preferences are predicted by modelling interactions since there are typically large numbers of users and items between users and items. Many common approaches in the database, and each user is usually only interested in to solve the collaborative filtering task a small subset of items, this user-item matrix is often large are based on learning representations of users and and sparse. It is therefore inefficient to define the similarity items, including simple matrix factorization, Gaussian between users in the high dimensional feature space defined process latent variable models, and neuralnetwork by all items. Instead, it is more advantageous to derive abstract based embeddings. While matrix factorization feature vectors that represent users and items, which approaches fail to model nonlinear relations, inspired a large variety of low-rank matrix decomposition neural networks can potentially capture such models such as non-negative matrix decomposition [Zhang complex relations with unprecedented predictive et al., 2006], biased matrix decomposition [Koren et al., power and are highly scalable. However, neither 2009] and non-parametric decomposition [Yu et al., 2009]. of them is able to model predictive uncertainties. These methods aim at learning low dimensional representations In contrast, Gaussian Process based models can for all users and items, allowing for the prediction of generate a predictive distribution, but cannot scale the unobserved interaction between a new pair of user and to large amounts of data.

Apple overhauls Siri to address privacy concerns and improve performance

The Guardian

Apple will no longer send Siri requests to its servers, the company has announced, in a move to substantially speed up the voice assistant's operation and address privacy concerns. The new feature comes two years after the Guardian revealed that Apple staff regularly heard confidential details while carrying out quality control for the feature. Apple's worldwide developers conference (WWDC) was told on Monday that, from this autumn onwards, when new versions of the company's operating systems are released, Siri will process audio "on device" โ€“ meaning that, for the majority of queries, no recording will need to be uploaded to Apple's servers. "With on-device speech recognition, the audio of users' requests is processed right on their iPhone or iPad by default," an Apple spokesperson said. "This addresses one of the biggest privacy concerns for voice assistants, which is unwanted audio recording. For many requests, Siri processing is also moving on device, enabling requests to be processed without an internet connection, such as launching apps, setting timers and alarms, changing settings or controlling music."

Siri is coming to third-party devices

Engadget

Unlike Alexa and Google Assistant, Siri has been limited to only Apple devices since it was introduced nearly a decade ago. That's changing this year, though -- Apple just announced that third-party devices would be able to take advantage of Siri as part of an update to the company's HomeKid system. Apple showed someone summoning Siri on an Ecobee thermostat. But based on the brief demo, it sounds like these third-party devices won't be full-fledged devices running Siri themselves. Instead, it'll relay the command to a HomePod mini which will then send the request. Apple specifically said that third-party companies won't be able to see those Siri commands.

Apple moves Siri's speech recognition offline with new privacy updates

Engadget

Siri's speech-recognition capabilities can happen on-device beginning with iOS 15. The update will make Siri considerably faster and, in some cases, allow it to function without a WiFi or data connection. Apple announced the upgrade along with several other privacy updates arriving with iOS 15. For Siri, processing audio locally will alleviate some of the privacy concerns associated with audio recordings. The company had been previously criticized for a program that allowed third-party contractors to review Siri audio -- some of which contained sensitive information -- in order to review their accuracy (Apple later made recordings an opt-in feature).
