Here's a look at the key features in iOS 15.4, which is available now on the iPhone 16s or later.

macOS 12.3 arrives with Universal Control and spatial audio features

Engadget

Nine months after Apple first showed off the Universal Control feature, it's now available after the company rolled out macOS 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4. The tool, which is in beta, allows you to control a Mac and iPad at the same time with a single keyboard and mouse (or trackpad). You can enter text on either device and drag files between them. Apple initially said Universal Control would be available last fall, but in December it delayed the release until this spring. Apple has enhanced spatial audio on M1-powered systems as well.

Ai Events

#artificialintelligence

A digital travel assistant who "knows" what you are looking for Imagine a scenario where a travel shopper is able to plan a trip, just the way one ends up following or liking content on Instagram or watching a series on Netflix. You come across travel-related offerings or bundles based on your interest, browsing sessions etc. But how to facilitate such an experience or a trip in a seamless way, for instance, via a platform that is like a #recommender system rather than a typical interface that makes you search for options from A to B. "Airlines without Enterprise AI and emerging data in their plans are planning to fail," said Ricardo Pilon, during Ai's event on retailing optimization. It is time carriers reassess how travellers shop, what are the shortcomings in #travel retailing and how to solve customer queries or come up with recommendations in real-time. Pilon spoke about a concept called "retail marketplace of experiences", toward which he is developing a solution.

Recommendation System Tutorial with Python using Collaborative Filtering

#artificialintelligence

A recommendation system generates a compiled list of items in which a user might be interested, in the reciprocity of their current selection of item(s). It expands users' suggestions without any disturbance or monotony, and it does not recommend items that the user already knows. For instance, the Netflix recommendation system offers recommendations by matching and searching similar users' habits and suggesting movies that share characteristics with films that users have rated highly. In this tutorial, we will dive into building a recommendation system for Netflix. This tutorial's code is available on Github and its full implementation as well on Google Colab.

Tinder users help Ukrainian refugees find shelter and support

Engadget

Since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, more than 2.5 million people have fled the country, making it Europe's worst refugee crisis since World War II. In trying to find shelter in neighboring countries like Romania, some Ukrainian refugees have turned to an unexpected place for help: Tinder. The New York Times recounts the tale of one such individual, Anastasia Tischchenko. She and her friend Natalia Masechko posted their plight to the dating app when they fled their home of Ivano-Frankivsk, a city of approximately 230,000 located in western Ukraine, south of Lviv. "I'm thinking there are a lot of honest people in the world, and some of them are on Tinder," Tischchenko told The Times.

Recommender System With Machine Learning and Statistics

#artificialintelligence

Recommender system is a promising approach to boost sales to the next level by suggesting the right products to the right customers. This course starts by showing you the main solutions of recommender systems in the industry and the hypotheses behind the main solutions. You'll then learn how to build collaborative filtering models with fastai, and exercise the trained model on test datasets. As you advance, you'll visualize latent features, interpret weights and biases, and check what similar users/Items are from the model's perspective. Furthermore, you'll build a hybrid recommender system with popularity and association rule, and evaluate the recommendations with selected criteria.

Tinder now offers criminal background checks, but there's a big problem

The Guardian

As of this week, Tinder users will be able to run criminal background checks on their potential dates. The feature โ€“ launched in partnership with Garbo, a background check provider that aims to make public safety information more accessible โ€“ is intended to make Tinder users feel safer. But experts who specialize in sexual violence and surveillance have said the move is misguided, and risks amplifying the biases inherent in the criminal justice system. Background checks are blunt tools that gloss over some fundamental nuances, including that most people accused of sexual violence do not interact with the criminal justice system, said Albert Fox Cahn, the founder of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project. Only 310 of 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to police, according to the anti-sexual violence organization Rainn.

Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen)

#artificialintelligence

The new $130 Echo Show 8 takes the top rank as the greatest Alexa smart display, with the Echo Show 10 being more novelty than necessity (that revolving screen doesn't support the $250 price tag). The second iteration of Amazon's mid-sized smart speaker with a display, which was released this month, combines some of the greatest features from the Show 10 (13-megapixel camera, digital zoom, and security camera functions) and compresses them into a more manageable size. The Echo Show 8 has a small enough footprint to sit on a bedside table or a kitchen counter. The Show 8 (available in Charcoal and Glacier White) offers the most bang (and screen size) for your buck, with a virtually identical design to its predecessor (same display, same speakers), but with a bit more behind the hood, including a new octo-core processing and a beefed-up camera. You can still watch shows, listen to music, control your smart home, send out announcements to your family, and check in on friends and family, but you can now zoom with a 13-megapixel camera.
