Microsoft's mobile OS isn't Windows -- it's Cortana
We'll have bots to thank for that, and Microsoft wants developers to embrace them, the same way hordes of developers embraced iOS apps back in 2008. "We want every developer to build experts for Cortana," Nadella said onstage Wednesday. "We want all developers to build bots." Because of the cross-platform nature of both Cortana and the many communication apps Nadella cited yesterday, Microsoft's bot army will work on whatever device you want to use. The company debuted a host of tools yesterday to make that happen, including the Microsoft Bot Framework, which will let developers build bots and deploy them across the various communication platforms we use.
BMW gets into the virtual assistant game with its ConnectedDrive app
All those features sounded similar to what Google Now and the iPhone do now, but the difference here is that BMW Connect will sync up with your car as well (assuming it's a BMW running the ConnectedDrive platform). In addition to pulling in destinations and appointments from your calendar, the BMW Connected app will learn from your routines and places you search for commonly and give you travel times for those locations automatically. Frequent and recurring are stored and revealed to you when the app thinks you'll want to return to them. If you're a BMW driver, the big benefit here will likely be the way the app integrates into your car -- but lots of drivers would probably be just as happy using Android Auto or Carplay to tie their phones and vehicles together. That said, the new app ties right into your car, letting you unlock and lock the doors, flash the lights, kick up the AC before you're in it and so forth.
Boompi dating app lets your friends see and discuss your messages
Most single women look to their girlfriends for advice about dating. But instead of telling them about a conversation or sending screen shots they can now eavesdrop without being detected. Boompi is a dating app that lets women add their girl friends to private conversations with prospective suitors so they can give advice or just watch the romance unravel. But now instead of telling them about a conversation or sending screen shots your friends can eavesdrop without being detected. Boompi uses the swipe'yes' or'no' function to determine a match.
Automatic Semantic Tagging of Images for Visual Recommender Systems
The automatic extraction of features from images is then called to tag the scene in a manner which is close to the human perception of it. For example, image features might include landscape at dusk or broad day time, human or animal interactions, textured image and so on. To this purpose, computer vision algorithms need first to extract salient features of the image and then cluster them according to semantically meaningful groups. Region-growing techniques are utilize to subdivide the image into non-overlapping regions containing salient features. The edge map of the image (in all color channels) is used to determine stiff boundaries for region growing and peaks of the edge distance-transform are used as initial seeds for the process.
Million-dollar babies
THAT a computer program can repeatedly beat the world champion at Go, a complex board game, is a coup for the fast-moving field of artificial intelligence (AI). Another high-stakes game, however, is taking place behind the scenes, as firms compete to hire the smartest AI experts. Technology giants, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Baidu, are racing to expand their AI activities. Last year they spent some 8.5 billion on research, deals and hiring, says Quid, a data firm. That was four times more than in 2010.
Microsoft's Bold Vision Of Pervasive Artificial Intelligence
At the Build 2016 conference, which kicked off on March 30, developers got a sneak peak at Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) vision of all pervasive artificial intelligence (AI). CEO Satya Nadella calls this "conversations as a platform," in which human language is the preferred user interface. If Microsoft achieves its vision, it will be a breakthrough that will change the way we interact with our computing devices. One of the staples of science fiction has been artificial intelligence smart enough to have a natural conversation with. Such an advanced capability has been elusive, but in recent years, cloud based speech recognition services from Microsoft, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) have gotten closer to the fictional dream.
Basic recommendation engine using R
In this post will explain about User based Collaborative Filtering. This algorithm usually works by searching a large group of people and finding a smaller set with tastes similar to yours. It looks at other things they like and combines them to create a ranked list of suggestions. Creating Similarity score for people helps us to identify similar people. We use Cosine based Similarity function to calculate the similarity between the users. Know more about cosine similarity here.
Advanced Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Health
CIOs believe industry convergence is the biggest trend on the horizon. Lines between industries are blurring, and new opportunities and threats are emerging, according to IBM's "The CIO Point of View." One of the greatest convergences is between technology giants and healthcare. As a trends analyst, I talk to many stakeholders, including leaders from technology giants, all of whom have designs on the future of health. While healthcare is trying to come up with standards, tech giants are creating their own ecosystems in health.
Seven ways artificial intelligence can be used for marketing
Facebook launched a concierge service called M through its Messenger app in 2015. M can purchase items, get gifts delivered, book restaurants, and make travel arrangements for the user. There is an element of the Mechanical Turk about it at the moment as it is powered by a combination of AI and real-life people. Siri has been around for a few years but has been upgraded in that time. It's now capable of showing the user specific photos he or she has taken, ordering things via ecommerce apps and giving directions.
Microsoft pitches smart chats with computers (Update)
Microsoft wants you to talk more with your computer--and have more useful conversations. The giant software company is promoting new uses for Cortana--its voice-activated answer to Apple's Siri digital assistant--including the ability to interact with software "bots" that can have limited conversations with users and help with tasks like booking a hotel room, ordering a meal or arranging a delivery. Voice-activated services like Siri, "OK Google," or Amazon's Alexa can already perform tasks for users like playing a song at a request or answering a question. Bots are smarter than traditional software apps, though, using artificial intelligence to respond to a wider range of commands and in a convenient, conversational way. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, at the opening Wednesday of the company's annual conference for software developers, touted the power of "conversational intelligence" as he outlined a long-term vision in which Cortana, a central feature of Windows 10, becomes a digital concierge for other online interactions.
