Natural language processing systems in artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Over the last few years, there has been an ongoing conversation about Artificial Intelligence and how it is going to change our lives and how we do business. So, if you've been keeping up with the latest technology trends, then you know that artificial intelligence has the potential to be the most disruptive technology ever. Today, we can ask Siri or Google or Cortana to help us with simple questions or tasks, but much of their actual potential is still untapped. The reason why involves language. This is where natural language processing (NLP) comes into play in artificial intelligence applications.

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will have AI digital assistant - Android Community

#artificialintelligence

Samsung needs a break badly. And so they are probably working very hard on the upcoming new flagship on what we suppose will be the Galaxy S8. This will be a major test for them, to see if the smartphone will be good enough for people to forgive them for the whole Galaxy Note 7 debacle. One of the things they have confirmed is that they will be launching an artificial intelligence digital assistant as part of the flagship. Just last month, Samsung announced that they were acquiring Viv Labs Inc, which was actually run by someone highly familiar with voice assistant programs, as he was the co-creator of Apple's Siri.

How Siri's Co-Creator Could Help Save Samsung

TIME - Tech

Samsung dominates the smartphone industry so much so that one in every five handsets sold worldwide come from the South Korean technology giant. But the firm is still reeling from the recall of millions of its big-screen Galaxy Note 7 devices, which suffered from a battery issue that could cause the device to overheat and, in some cases, explode. That recall left Samsung without a flashy new smartphone to go head-to-head with Apple's iPhone 7 and Google's Pixel as the all-important holiday shopping season approaches. "In a market that is otherwise maturing, Christmas has come early for vendors looking to capitalize with large-screened flagship alternatives like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel," said IDC analyst Melissa Chau in a report accompanying the research firm's latest smartphone sales estimates. With the Note 7 dead and buried, Samsung must look towards the future for salvation.

Man acquitted after Tinder date fell off balcony faces backlash with TV interview

FOX News

An Australian man acquitted of murder last month after his Tinder date plummeted off a balcony to her death faced new criticism after he acknowledged in a TV interview that the woman had screamed "no" a reported 33 times before she fell. "Yeah, she was certainly trying to make a lot of noise," Gable Tostee commented in the interview, which aired on the Nine Network's "60 Minutes." Critics also lashed out after The Courier Mail claimed Tostee was paid a six-figure sum for the interview. A senior detective called it "disgusting". The detective continued, "There's a lot of anger among police about this. Of course we respect the court's decision to find him not guilty but for him to now do a paid interview after everything this poor girl's family has been through, is horrific."

Samsung Tests Button for Improved AI Feature on Galaxy S8 Phone

WSJ.com: WSJD - Technology

SEOUL-- Samsung Electronics Co. is looking to give its Siri-like virtual assistant a big promotion. The South Korean smartphone giant is considering a hardware revamp for its next flagship smartphone that could add a dedicated button for an improved artificial-intelligence feature, people familiar with the matter said, as it seeks to woo smartphone users after a disastrous product recall last month. The latest internal prototypes of the premium Galaxy S8 handset include a button on the side edge of the smartphone that would be used to launch a beefed-up virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence, akin to Apple Inc.'s Siri, according to these people, who cautioned that the prototypes aren't final and could change. Samsung will have more time than usual to tinker with the Galaxy S8 after it was forced to discontinue its premium Galaxy Note 7 smartphone last month, following reports of phones catching fire. The embarrassing fiasco damaged the company's brand and engineers still don't know exactly what caused the devices to overheat.

Google starts shipping Bases for Google Home

#artificialintelligence

The Google Home is a voice-activated smart speaker that interfaces to Google's new Assistant, also available on the new Pixel phones and on Google Allo messaging app. By default, it ships with a fabric covered base in gray material. And currently, the only color option for the upper (plastic) portion of the device is white. To be clear, Google has never said there would be a color for the Home itself other than white, although we really think it would look slick in black, too. But maybe that will happen next year.

Samsung is building its own AI assistant for the Galaxy S8

#artificialintelligence

Samsung needs something big next year. After all, it's precisely that line that put the company in its current position, up against the ropes during the time of year that ought be its most profitable. In a number of ways, the Note 7 fiasco couldn't have come at a less opportune time, heading into the holidays, just prior to the launch of a new iPhone, and as countless newcomers are vying for the public's attention/affection with low price/high-speced takes on Android. And then it went and recalled 2.8 million washing machines. But the company has clearly been thinking big for the next generation.

How AI Will Be A Game Changer In Mobile Marketing

#artificialintelligence

Merriam-Webster's two part definition of Artificial Intelligence or AI is "an area of computer science that deals with giving machines the ability to seem like they have human intelligence; the power of a machine to copy intelligent human behavior." Make no mistake about it, AI is very much the "in term" around the marketing water coolers. And as such there is no shortage of pieces being written espousing the benefits of AI on the world of marketing. Earlier this month Google unveiled Google Assistant, that was described as being most exciting new product announcement since the iPhone in 2007. According to Geek Time "It is an AI personal assistant that chats with you and can assist you with many tasks. You can chat or talk to the Assistant and it can bring you relevant information, send messages, book events, save reminders, change the lights, play content on your TV and many other actions. Google is working hard to bring more functionality to its Assistant, so you can expect its capabilities to improve over time."
