Here's how you can make AI more accessible to consumers
Yariella Coello, head of consultancy at data science and intelligent marketing company Profusion, discusses how tech companies can describe complex subjects like artificial intelligence to everyday consumers. Amazon has been making headlines again with the opening of concept store Amazon Go in Seattle. This follows hot on the heels of Google unveiling Google Home and Pixel, with Google Assistant as one of its selling points. Meanwhile, we've all got used to having the likes of Siri and Cortana in our pockets and on our laptops. What links all these entities is artificial intelligence (AI), but ask any average Joe on the street about this and they're more likely to bring up Humans or Westworld as a reference point. Ask them what they understand about machine learning and they're likely to draw a blank.

Nokia Requests EU for Trademark on AI Assistant Viki
Viki, an artificial intelligence assistant is allegedly under development to strengthen smartphone giant Nokia. While it is unclear where did Nokia got the name Viki, but suspicions point to 1989 TV character VICI who is a child android. According to GSM Info, Nokia just requested European Union for trademark protection of Viki and its product description suggests that this software will combine all data sources into a single chat and voice-based interface. Nokia Viki will therefore become the new interface similar to Siri and the likes. Question now is how will Viki fare in contrast to Apple Siri AI assistant or other support that competitors feature.
Google Home review: Second place ain't bad, but Google Home can't topple Alexa (yet)
Amazon's Echo is the undisputed king of the nascent smart home market -- a tabletop speaker with a disembodied online "smart assistant" named Alexa, available at your beck and call to answer your questions, tell you a joke or control dozens of compatible networked products in your house. But with the release of the Google Home, Google's own voice-controlled smart speaker, the Echo is finally getting some serious competition. Google, of course, already knows as much or more about you than Facebook, thanks to your web history, your Gmail metadata and tracking the GPS records on your phone. And now the tech giant is aiming to use that data to out-Alexa Amazon, making the little countertop speaker a friendly face for its search-engine-powered online brain. Google Home pulls info from your Google account to keep you informed about your calendar appointments, and the traffic on your commute.
Thinking Ahead: Optimizing the Future with Augmented Intelligence
Every day, "Artificial Intelligence" (A.I.) becomes more prevalent in the press, business and emerging technology. But we should regard all claims of Artificial Intelligence innovation with a healthy level of skepticism. "What exactly do you mean by A.I.? What do the systems do?" is a great way to open an A.I. discussion of any kind. Generally speaking, there are two main varieties of A.I., one of which is still squarely in the domain of science fiction and one that is already in use across hundreds of industries With the Computational Intelligence A.I., humans are a requirement in the process and workflow as they impart subject matter expertise and provide feedback on the output of algorithms leading to what can be regarded as Augmented Intelligence[1]. In the case of machine learning, human feedback improves accuracy and precision.
Microsoft improves Cortana, Edge and Mobile in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15007
Microsoft's Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15007 dropped Thursday afternoon, a scant few days after its huge Build 15002 went live. Apparently the company wasn't quite done. The new build, detailed in a lengthy blog post, adds three key ingredients: new Edge features, the ability to easily resume work after switching PCs, and a downloadable themes store designed to freshen up your PC. There's also a small herd of Mobile improvements (we were wondering why there was no mobile component to Build 15002), some user-facing and some under-the-hood. It's all leading toward the major Creators Update, which should begin rolling out later this spring.
Adobe shows off voice operated version of Photoshop
Adobe has unveiled a new concept that lets users edit photos without lifting a finger. A 30-second clip shows a man using only voice commands to crop a photo, flip it and even post the final image to Facebook. This technology is focused around a voice-based digital assistant that automatically does photo editing tasks for you. Adobe has unveiled a new concept that lets users edit photos without lifting a finger. Adobe shared a concept video that shows how a digital assistant could edit photos.
The cougar effect: Women get far less picky about a partner's intelligence the older they get
Most online daters prefer to contact people with the same level of education as them, but a new study suggests that as people grow older they become less picky about it. Researchers based at Queensland's University of Technology, Australia, analyzed the online dating behaviors of 41,000 Australians aged between 18 and 80. The researchers said that humans usually look for similar characteristics and traits in a partner in areas such as age, attractiveness and culture, however, the internet has changed this process. Researchers based at Queensland's University of Technology, Australia, analyzed the online dating behaviors of 41,000 Australians aged between 18 and 80 The researchers analyzed the behaviors of people using the online dating website'RSVP' during a four month period in 2016. Mr Stephen Whyte, a behavioural economist and co-author of the study, said: 'Selecting a mate can be one of the largest psychological and economic decisions a person can make and has long been the subject of social science research across a range of disciplines.
Clinc: Voice AI That Learns Like A Human PYMNTS.com
Almost overnight, talking to one's computer or other electronics changed from being something people rarely did unless they were extremely angry (who hasn't yelled at a computer that ate their file?) to something that is well on its way to becoming as normal as flipping on a light switch or swiping a phone screen. There are even opportunities to talk to AI for those who don't want to use their voice. For about a year, an army of them have been on the loose on Facebook Messenger (among many, many other places) ready at a moment's notice to help. The problem with AI is that the concept is often somewhat better than the execution. PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster's long-running feud with Poncho, Facebook's Weather Cat AI is well-documented and becoming more acrimonious by the day. A handful of Amazon AI users have complained that, if one puts their Echo too close to the TV, Alexa might order you an unwanted pizza when a certain commercial comes on.
The Robots Are Already Taking over - How Artificial Intelligence Will Transform Every Business, Big and Small
Think about your typical day. Your phone alarm wakes you up (maybe after hitting snooze a couple of times), you check the weather as your coffee is brewing, and you get traffic alerts about your commute to work. How many times do you think artificial intelligence (AI) is a part of your day? It's definitely more often than you think. During a conversation with President Barack Obama, technologist Joi Ito, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicted that 2016 would be the "year artificial intelligence becomes more than just a computer science problem." In 2016, AI's fast progress led to acquisition deals topping $1 billion, and the White House released its first report on artificial intelligence and the economy.
