2017 and The Rise of Bots: Is This the Year of AI?

#artificialintelligence

Back in January, CES introduced headlines on how Artificial Intelligence was taking centre stage as the key technology for the year. We've already seen how AI has emerged on the consumer side of things, with things like Cortana, Siri, and Alexa changing the way we communicate and search. But, what does all this mean for the growth of enterprise? Well, first, only moments after the announcement of the "Echo Show" from Amazon, Cisco revealed that they would be purchasing "MindMeld" a company known for pioneering technology for intelligent conversational solutions. Cisco's Rob Salvagno noted that the acquisition of MindMeld would enhance the business's collaboration suite, with brand new services for Cisco Spark.

Integrating AI into the Financial Services Customer Experience

#artificialintelligence

AlphaGo beating Lee Sedol, Go World Champion, may make us humans feel uneasy when confronted with such intellect, but should we instead be embracing artificial intelligence (AI)? Optimists see AI to be the saviour of customer experience in the financial services industry. Siri and Cortana are now at the frontline of providing information services, before we would of had to manually type into a search engine or call up a customer service team to find the answer. This seems just the beginning of AI enhancing customer experience, and its influence in the financial services sector is growing. The financial services sector has been excited with news of BBVA working on their virtual banking assistant Lola, RBS investing into a robo-advisory recording system and Mitsubishi UFJ challenging Lola with their humanoid virtual assistant Nao. All have promised a more efficient and reliable experience for the customer.

Sure, Alexa looks up things and answers questions for you. But as of Tuesday, you can ask the virtual personal assistant inside Amazon's Echo to make hotel reservations for you too. You Should Know These 20 Technology Leaders Driving China's A.I. Revolution - TOPBOTS

#artificialintelligence

China's leading technology companies are on fire, heavily investing in artificial intelligence and building true global presences. McKinsey recently reported that academic and research institutions in the country publish more cited research papers than the US, UK, or any other global leader in AI, producing nearly 10,000 papers in 2015 alone. Backed by strong government mandates and billions of dollars of both private and public investments, China is challenging the US for position of global AI leader. Fearful of competition, the US government is considering placing restrictions on Chinese investments in AI and technology in the United States. In many sectors, such as healthcare, China may already be ahead of America in applying AI to critical public issues.
