Apple WWDC 2018 keynote: iOS 12 update to include AR tape measure – live
Federighi back, and he's turned to the "Time Well Spent" movement. "We might not recognise just how distracted we've become," he says, in a not-so-subtle dig at social networks like Facebook and Twitter. So, three updates to help that. Firstly, Do Not Disturb During Bedtime will now deliberately not show you notifications if you open your phone at night, allowing you to check the time and get back to sleep without worrying. Do Not Disturb will also allow you to activate it on a timer, or leave it on until you leave an area.
Xbox One to Support Alexa, Google Assistant, report says
File photo: Kareem Choudhry, Xbox Vice President, introduces the Xbox One X gaming console during the Xbox E3 2017 media briefing in Los Angeles, California, U.S., June 11, 2017. It's already possible to use a digital assistant with the Xbox One games consoles, but your options are quite limited. Microsoft, as you'd expect, integrated Cortana functionality. However, using Cortana requires having the now defunct Kinect hooked up, or relying on the microphone in a headset. That could soon change, though, as there's evidence Microsoft is opening up Xbox to other assistants. As Windows Central reports, an image has appeared of a new option in the Xbox One interface under preferences for digital assistants.
Which smart speaker should I buy? How the Apple HomePod, Amazon Echo and Sonos could all improve your life
The most exciting thing about smart speakers is that they are all so utterly imperfect. Each of the mainstream examples – Amazon's Echos, the Google Home, Sonos's wide range and the new Apple HomePod – packs within it stunning technology that would have been unimaginable just a couple of years ago. But they're also full of downsides, making choosing one a matter of deciding what you want, not simply settling on the best. Deciding is a matter of picking which things you want – and which things you definitely don't. Some sound good, but are terrible at talking back to you.
How Marketers Can Get More Value from Their Recommendation Engines
Salesforce software computationally qualifies and ranks leads. Calendar managers visually and acoustically suggest scheduling options and priorities. Practically everything a digitally-dependent knowledge worker sees, hears, or swipes can become a recommendation. That makes simple and engaging user experience design for management key. For Chief Marketing Officers to brand managers alike, the experience of identifying actionable analytic insight will come to resemble binge-watching on Netflix, shopping on Amazon, or swiping left (or right) on Tinder -- an exercise in selecting customized and contextualized options determined by data-enriched algorithms. Analytics-oriented marketing leaderships must recognize that their best people, just like their best customers, want intelligent exposure to meaningful choice.

Siri, Bixby, Cortana, Oh My!
In a CardLinx Card-Linking and O2O Industry Survey, leading tech companies selected AI assistants as the next big platform for digital commerce. And according to eMarketer (via Ad Week), there will be 67 million voice-assisted devices in the U.S. by 2019. But these digital assistants only scratch the surface of what the future with AI might look like. Advances in AI will be an iteration of the convergence of today's buzzwords: big data, cloud computing, biometric verification, contactless payments and geo-location. From payment networks to digital advertisers and retailers, every industry in the online-to-offline (O2O) ecosystem is using AI to enhance their real-time data analysis for greater consumer engagement.
Voice Search Creates An Opportunity For Local Businesses
When Apple first released Siri in 2011, many of us thought "the future" had finally arrived. The idea of having a personal assistant in your pocket was revolutionary. Unfortunately, early experiences left much to be desired. Questions were frequently misunderstood, and the results returned often missed the mark. Over the years, we've seen massive improvements in the accuracy of speech recognition and even the human-like quality of AI personalities.
Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod or Google Home: which is smarter about playing music? We tested them
All three a virtual tie, but each had questions they couldn't answer. Tune in to find out where Apple, Google and Amazon fell down. And it doesn't even once say, "Here's what I found on the Web," to make you read the information on websites. But is it really smarter when it comes to responding to our music-related commands than its rivals Amazon Echo and Google Home, which dominate the smart speaker market? We decided to find out, posing 40 music questions to all three, and then played a bonus round with 10 requests to play a song based on sample lyrics from the tune. That last challenge proved to be the tie breaker.
Xbox One Getting Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant Support Soon
It looks like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are coming to the Xbox One console very soon, based on a recent discovery that shows a new section within the device's software. Over the weekend, Windows Central reported that it has found hard evidence to prove that Xbox One is getting support for the two voice assistants. The news, reviews and community forums site discovered that a new "Digital Assistants" tab is coming soon to the Xbox One via a software update. The tab basically presents users with the option to enable digital assistants. The tab also comes with a note that says, "Use a digital assistant like Cortana, Alexa, or Google Assistant with your Xbox. To get started, enable digital assistants below, then search for Xbox in the assistant app's skills on your phone."
Amazon's Alexa Has a Clear Favorite – and Some Savage Analysis – for the NBA Finals
Amazon's Alexa voice assistant is a handy, seamless way to listen to music and find out about the weather. As the NBA finals head into tonight's Game 2 between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, though, the voice assistant is also dabbling in sports analysis. If you ask Alexa "Who will win the NBA Finals this year," it gives you the following dissertation: "Even with both conference finals going to game 7, these playoffs were over before they even started. I think the Warriors will win the playoffs pretty handily, and the rest of the league will spend the off-season trying to figure out what they will do to damper the dynasty." You'd be forgiven for thinking that Alexa is showing some bias – the Warriors' home base in Oakland is much closer than the Cav's HQ to both Amazon's Seattle headquarters and to Silicon Valley, which you might call Alexa's spiritual home.
