The Future is Fintech: 4 Drivers of Change in Financial Services
The world of financial services has reached a point of no return along the road of digital transformation. A combination of several factors is driving this shift: the rise of big data, consumers' demands for convenient and affordable financial services, and the proliferation of mobile technology are all responsible. Financial services companies must adopt automated, data-drive solutions to successfully compete against new, technology-based entrants. Although the rules surrounding developing fintech are still under construction, its potential to improve operational efficiency, safeguard investments, and fortify cybersecurity, is uncapped. At this point in the game, technology adoption is mandatory for financial institutions.
New dating app for Trump fans leaks data: report
WASHINGTON – New dating app DonaldDaters was supposed to help lonely conservatives find each other discreetly. But the app leaked its database of users on launch day, a report said Monday. With the slogan "Make America Date Again," the app targets the "American-based singles community connecting lovers, friends, and Trump supporters alike," its website says. The app had just over 1,600 users on its first day of operations, technology news site TechCrunch reported. TechCrunch said it learned the figure because a French security researcher found "issues" with the app, making it possible to download the entire user database.
Just tell Google Assistant to play Netflix on Android TVs
Until now, casting video to an Android TV through a Google Assistant-enabled device such as a Google Home or the new JBL soundbar has been a fairly simple affair. With the exception of playing Netflix, that is. Now, Google is finally changing that by allowing Google Assistant to play Netflix on Android TV devices. For reasons unknown, the Google Assistant has been unable to launch Netflix with an Android TV as the target device. This is an odd omission for an OS that's supposed to have the same basic functionality as a Chromecast. With this recent update, the feature has been added in to Assistant's suite, Google confirmed to Android Police.
Faster Matrix Completion Using Randomized SVD
Feng, Xu, Yu, Wenjian, Li, Yaohang
Abstract--Matrix completion is a widely used technique for image inpainting and personalized recommender system, etc. In this work, we focus on accelerating the matrix completion using faster randomized singular value decomposition (rSVD). Firstly, two fast randomized algorithms (rSVD-PI and rSVD-BKI) are proposed for handling sparse matrix. They make use of an eigSVD procedure and several accelerating skills. Then, with the rSVD-BKI algorithm and a new subspace recycling technique, we accelerate the singular value thresholding (SVT) method in [1] to realize faster matrix completion. Experiments show that the proposed rSVD algorithms can be 6X faster than the basic rSVD algorithm [2] while keeping same accuracy. The problem of matrix completion, or estimating missing values in a matrix, occurs in many areas of engineering and applied science such as computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning [1], [3], [4]. For example, in computer vision and image processing problems, recovering the missing or corrupted data can be regarded as matrix completion. A recommender system provides recommendations based on the user's preferences, which are often inferred with some ratings submitted by users. This is another scenario where the matrix completion can be applied. The matrix which we wish to complete often has low rank or approximately low rank.
The Rise of Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on General Counsel - ACCDocket.com
A rtificial intelligence (AI) has moved from the silver screen and into our homes and businesses. Without even knowing it, most people encounter some manifestation of AI in their daily lives. From intelligent personal assistants such as Siri and Alexa to integrated AI systems such as IBM's Watson, AI has already had -- and will continue to have -- a profound impact on the way we work, play, and live. As attorneys immersed in the technology space, we have witnessed, assessed, and counseled how technology, including AI, will affect the legal profession and the role of general counsel. Although technological changes are often incremental, the sum of those changes with respect to the increased adoption of AI will be enormous.
Donald Daters, new app for Trump supporters, aims to 'Make America Date Again'
A new app aims to help supporters of President Trump meet and mingle. Dating as a supporter of President Donald Trump can apparently be challenging. Conservatives may encounter messages like "Trump supporters, swipe left" on Tinder and "If you voted for Trump, don't waste my time" on other popular dating apps. A 2016 survey from Tinder found that 71 percent of online daters consider political differences to be a dealbreaker. Enter Donald Daters, a new dating app that launched Monday for Apple and Android devices with the mission of helping Trump supporters meet and mingle on a platform free of any liberal backlash.
Is superintelligence a threat for human decision-making? -- e-Estonia
I feel that there was a sort of explosion a couple of years ago after which the whole topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) suddenly sprang into a wider audience's consciousness. All of a sudden we had Siri, Amazon's Alexa and we started talking about self-driving cars. Jaan Tallinn, how did it happen? There were two different explosions. I believe that a lot of the latter had to do with the works of Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking. Most importantly, the former was the revolution of deep learning.
Meet the new Palm: Hint, this isn't your old PalmPilot
Palm helped popularize the idea of a modern smartphone with its Palm Treo, but after failing to keep up with the iPhone and Android the company has been reborn. Its new product: A 3.3-inch companion device to work alongside those phones, not replace it. Palm is back – well, sort of. We're not talking about a comeback of the PDA maker, back when that meant personal digital assistant. This Palm has Steph Curry on its team and is making a play for the as-yet undefined market – the one for a mini clone phone.
5 AI Predictions Investors Need to Know -- The Motley Fool
AI will continue to transform our homes. One of the most prolific uses of AI can be found in the humble smart speakers that nearly one-quarter of Americans have in their homes. It's become increasingly clear that tech companies look to these AI assistants to create new sources of revenue. For example, Amazon's Echo speakers allow people to easily buy products from its website through voice commands, and recent data shows that Amazon Prime members spend $400 more on the company's site if they own an Echo speaker than members who don't have one. Amazon could add $10 billion to its top line by 2020 thanks to the company's sales through its smart speakers, according to RBC Capital Market predictions.
