Machine-learning enhances, doesn't hurt, human creativity

#artificialintelligence

And pretty soon, they'll come for us. That seems to be the story today, whether from Hollywood or in breathless articles in popular tech magazines about artificial intelligence and nanotechnology. TNW Conference won best European Event 2016 for our festival vibe. See what's in store for 2017. In a world where machines can learn, once humans push the "on" button, there's no stopping our robot overlords, right?

16 Startling Statistics Forecasting the Future of Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

"According to merriam-webster.com, the simple definition of artificial intelligence: 'an area of computer science that deals with giving machines the ability to seem like they have human intelligence; the power of a machine to copy intelligent behavior.'" Ready or not, artificial intelligence is here; and it's here to stay. Businesses and organizations that have taken an early lead in the adoption and use of artificial intelligence (be it natural language processing, machine learning, deep learning, or cognitive computing) are simply scratching the surface of its potential to not only improve sales, service, marketing and operations, but to discover and deliver new digital business models. In the 2017 Economist Intelligence Unit report, Artificial Intelligence in the Real World, 75% of more than 200 business executives surveyed said AI will be actively implemented in their companies within the next three years. And while many are wary of its potential to reduce human employment, 27% say introducing artificial intelligence to business will improve decision making; 26% believe it will improve customer service; 29% say it will improve operating efficiency; and 17% said it will increase sales revenue.

An open letter to students who want to change the world โ€“ AI4ALL

As you think about what you want to do with your life, at first, a career in artificial intelligence might not be at the top of your list. When you dream of changing the world, it might be hard to connect the dots between building computer models of human intelligence and eliminating hunger or giving individuals the ability to walk again. Maybe you think you'd have to become a coding pro before you can really start solving problems. Or maybe you can't envision a career in artificial intelligence because you have never met anyone like you working in AI. If you have heard anything about AI in the media, it's probably about autonomous vehicles, gaming, or robots taking over the world.

How "intelligent" can Artificial Intelligence get?

#artificialintelligence

This post is the second in a series of three posts, each of which discuss the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence. In our first post we discussed AI definitions, helping our readers to understand the basic concepts behind AI, giving them the tools required to sift through the many AI articles out there and form their own opinion. In this second post, we will discuss several notions which are important in understanding the limits of AI. Figure 1: How intelligent can Artificial Intelligence get? When we speak about how far AI can go, there are two "philosophies": strong AI and weak AI. The most commonly followed philosophy is that of weak AI, which means that machines can manifest certain intelligent behavior to solve specific (hard) tasks, but that they will never equal the human mind.

The new IQ test: Technologists assess the potential of artificial intelligence

Rather than focus on attack signatures, these AI solutions look for anomalous network behavior, flagging when a machine goes rogue or if user activity or traffic patterns appear unusual. "A really simple example is someone with high privilege who attempts to get onto a system at a time of day or night that they never normally log in and potentially from a geolocation or a machine that they don't log in from," said Kelley. Another example would be a "really rapid transfer of a lot of data," especially if that data consists of the "corporate crown jewels." Such red-flags allow admins to quickly catch high-priority malware infections and network compromises before they can cause irreparable damage. IBM calls this kind of machine learning "cognitive with a little'c'" โ€“ which the company was already practicing prior to Watson.

Artificial Intelligence: Can it Replace Human Intelligence?

#artificialintelligence

There have been multiple reports recently which claim that a major part of the human workforce will be replaced by automatons and machines in the years to come. With excessive research and development being conducted in the field of artificial intelligence, many fear that a major job crisis will unfold since multiple jobs are more accurately and efficiently performed with the utilization of machines. With major names like Stephen Hawking already warning the world that development of robots and intelligent machines beyond a certain point could mark the end of humankind, the intimidation is real, to say the least. Is it possible for the machines to completely replace the human resources? Are humans really not going to find any job in upcoming decades, where every task is performed by the automatons and intelligent machines?

Evolving Artificial Intelligence โ€“ Will It Replace Human Intelligence?

#artificialintelligence

'Did you know about the emerging Artificial Intelligence? Its going to shape the future of our Collective Intelligence. Two months back I sat for the lecture of Dr. Scott Lee (Professor of Endocrinology, Linda University in the United states). He explained his crew's invention of the artificial pancreas which could achieve the target Hb1Ac of 6.9 mg/dl which is one of the greatest achievements compared to other primitive models of the artificial pancreas which could not make Hb1Ac below 7 mg/dl. The wonder in this subject is how the artificial pancreas brings the glucose down?

The Future of Customer Service: Human Intelligence (HI) or Artificial Intelligence (AI)

#artificialintelligence

I have been slow to accept that, from a service perspective, humans will ever be replaced by computers. I've suggested that customers will resist "robots" and I've based my thinking in part on the "uncanny valley" hypothesis which postulates that the more robots look like humans the less humans will feel comfortable with them. I am starting to rethink my assumptions and my conclusion. While humans may not be fully replaceable, I do believe artificial intelligence and robots will displace a lot of service providers. ALDI โ€“ A New Paradigm for Integrating Marketing Analytics with Data Science

@machinelearnbot

Owing to the data deluge and the Cambrian explosion of machine learning techniques over the past decade, one might have expected the transformation of marketing strategy into a predominantly quantitative discipline by now. The fact that it hasn't happened yet, and the observation that marketing is still influenced by a lot of qualitative inputs can be ascribed to two reasons, in my opinion. The first and principal reason continues to be institutional inertia. Second, there is a significant communication and knowledge gap between data scientists and marketers, owing to their relative lack of familiarity with the other side's perspectives and paradigms. The successful marketer of the next decade is someone who is conversant with management theories of Kotler[1] as well as machine learning advances by Hinton[2]/LeCun[3]/ Ng[4].
