Why is Data Science, AI and ML key to Lead Digital Transformation?

#artificialintelligence

Data science is shifting towards a new paradigm where machines can be taught to learn from data to derive conclusive intelligent insights. Artificial Intelligence is a disruptive technology that collates the intelligence displayed by machines mimicking human intelligence. AI is a broad term for smart machines programmed to undertake cognitive human tasks that require judgment-based decision making. With all the hype and excitement surrounding Artificial Intelligence, businesses are already churning data in massive quantities over call logs, emails, transactions and daily operations. Machine learning (ML) is a dynamic application of artificial intelligence (AI) that empowers the machines to learn and improve the model accuracy levels.

Guru, Partner, or Pencil Sharpener? Understanding Designers' Attitudes Towards Intelligent Creativity Support Tools

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Creativity Support Tools (CST) aim to enhance human creativity, but the deeply personal and subjective nature of creativity makes the design of universal support tools challenging. Individuals develop personal approaches to creativity, particularly in the context of commercial design where signature styles and techniques are valuable commodities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques could provide a means of creating 'intelligent' CST which learn and adapt to personal styles of creativity. Identifying what kind of role such tools could play in the design process requires a better understanding of designers' attitudes towards working with AI, and their willingness to include it in their personal creative process. This paper details the results of a survey of professional designers which indicates a positive and pragmatic attitude towards collaborating with AI tools, and a particular opportunity for incorporating them in the research stages of a design project.

Can AI surpass Human Intelligence with Superintelligent AI?

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence is making a great noise adding weight to the superhuman intelligent machines and long-term goal of human-level intelligence. It could be catastrophic for the human race if that happens to be true. At the current juncture, we are unable to specify the objective, nor can we anticipate or prevent the potential pitfalls that may arise if machines capacitate themselves with superhuman capabilities. Already, an alternate world of deep fakes exists which has caused a great deal of hullabaloo across the world, with disastrous consequences for well know personalities and power figures. Thus, with so much at stake, the great minds of today have already locked horns over a serious debate, seeking solutions, ferreting out loopholes, weighing up the risks and benefits, and so on.

Help! My Husband Doesn't Want Anyone to Know That My IQ Is Higher Than His.

Slate

Slate is now asking those who read the most to support our journalism more directly by subscribing to Slate Plus. Dear Prudence is online weekly to chat live with readers. Here's an edited transcript of this week's chat. I know it's a petty, marriage-killing thing to dwell on โ€ฆ but I'm smarter than my husband. Because he insisted we both get IQ tests. It turns out I qualify for MENSA and he just does not. Except now he's telling our friends his fairly impressive IQ and when they ask about me, he says: "Oh well, it doesn't really matter. What's important is how you use what God gave you."

How Intelligent is Artificial Intelligence?

#artificialintelligence

The quest for making machines, to think, and act like humans has evolved from movie-fiction to real-world applications. Yet we are far from replicating the cognitive thinking of humans with accuracy and precision. Although the bots, cobots, robots, humanoids, and digital humans can either outplay or coordinate with us in many ways, unlike human intelligence, they need to be fed with data regularly. While our minds cannot beat machines in terms of computational power and speed of execution, the level of complex cognitive skills still makes us superior to the machines. The programmed and trained models fail when it comes to making a rational decision.

(Art)ificial Intelligence. The new creative AI.

#artificialintelligence

It would be illogical today to think that AI completely replaces human creativity. Having two such powerful "machines" and deleting one of them would be an absolute mistake. Instead, we should take advantage of 200% of the potential offered by both, an awesome combination impossible to replace. Let's talk about art, music, dance, writing, โ€ฆ "Being creative means being in love with life", being able to generate new ideas or concepts spontaneously. Does AI take place in these fields?

Tangles: a new paradigm for clusters and types

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Traditional clustering identifies groups of objects that share certain qualities. Tangles do the converse: they identify groups of qualities that often occur together. They can thereby discover, relate, and structure types: of behaviour, political views, texts, or viruses. If desired, tangles can also be used for direct clustering of objects. They offer a precise, quantitative paradigm suited particularly to fuzzy clusters, since they do not require any `hard' assignments of objects to the clusters they collectively form. This is a draft of the introductory chapter of a book I am preparing on the application of tangles in the empirical sciences. The purpose of posting this draft early is to give authors of tangle application papers a generic reference for the basic guiding principles underlying tangle applications outside mathematics, so that in their own papers they can concentrate on the ideas specific to their particular application rather than having to repeat the generic story each time. The text starts with three separate generic introductions to tangles in the natural sciences, in the social sciences, and in data science including machine learning. It then gives a short informal description of the abstract notion of tangles that encompasses all these potential applications.

How Documentary Theater Goes From Interviews to Final Production

Slate

This week, host Isaac Butler talks to documentary theater makers Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, whose plays include The Exonerated, about the criminal justice system, and Coal Country, about the Upper Big Branch mine disaster in West Virginia. Blank and Jensen explain how documentary theater works, from interviews with subjects to the final product, where actors perform interview excerpts verbatim. After the interview, Isaac and co-host June Thomas discuss why documentary theater is such a great way to communicate important information to an audience. Is AI a More Sustainable Option Than Human Intelligence In Delivering Faster And Effective Justice In India?

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is believed to have the ability to function and perform like that of human intelligence and possess the capability of reasoning, arguing, perceiving and acting rationally. We can say to an extent it can imitate all human functioning but this belief in itself is paradoxical. As we talk about it on the global platform itself, the views are bifurcated some believe it as next disruptive technology which would lead to development and growth whereas some hold the view that it may lead to job losses and increase unemployment. Researches have been made on AI towards developing such machines which can imitate human cognitive and logical skills. Many countries have already adopted AI in judicial litigations, according to CEPEJ and the court administration of Latvia held a conference on "Artificial Intelligence" at the service of the judiciary, on 27th Sep 2018, it formed a platform which collaborated representatives of the academic world, professional justices, from different European countries to discuss the relevance of AI in the judicial arena, to ensure delivery of improved quality of justices, while maintaining the key fundamental principles and further highlighted the directives on which application of AI will be based upon in judicial system.

Artificial Intelligence vs. Human Intelligence: Which is the Force Majeure?

#artificialintelligence

Anthropomorphizing AI is easy to do. In the age of smart assistants like Google Home, Alexa, and Siri, we imagine that these technologies have our best interests at heart. While painting a mental picture of AI, we usually envision machines that think, learn, and come to conclusions as humans do. For a general understanding of the phenomenon, artificial intelligence is described as the intelligence possessed and displayed by machines and technologies as opposed to the one exhibited by humans. For lack of a better term, AI is used as a blanket expression to represent machine learning, cognitive computing, image recognition, and more.
