Andrew Ng: Artificial Intelligence is the New Electricity

#artificialintelligence

On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Baidu chief scientist, Coursera co-founder, and Stanford adjunct professor Andrew Ng spoke at the Stanford MSx Future Forum. The Future Forum is a discussion series that explores the trends that are changing the future. During his talk, Professor Ng discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming industry after industry.

The rise of machine learning: Will the human factor be pushed out of data science? #WiDS2017 - SiliconANGLE

#artificialintelligence

With the rise of machine learning, concerns are being voiced about the future involvement of humans in jobs that computers can handle. But at the same time, alternative views are being offered on ways in which the human element will influence the direction of data science, with passion playing a large role in that survival. "I think data science is one area in which a woman โ€ฆ will have a huge opportunity to move the needle," said Stephanie Gottlib-Zeh (pictured), president of Agyleo Sport. In her view, insularity is something more likely to damage an enterprise than to sustain it, and drawing in a diversity of viewpoints is a big step toward protecting against that sort of stagnancy. Gottlib-Zeh (pictured), president of Agyleo Sport, shared her thoughts on the ways in which data is changing business and how tech workers should aim for jobs that excite them.

Artificial Intelligence and Future Supply Chains

#artificialintelligence

By Pierfrancesco Manenti, vice president research, SCM World "Every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it." These were the words used in 1955 to launch the very first research project that coined the term'artificial intelligence'. Fast forward 60 years and artificial intelligence โ€“ or machine learning as many call it โ€“ is emerging as the next big technology. In SCM World's 2016 Future of Supply Chain Survey, we found big jumps in importance for a series of disruptive technologies with respect to supply chain strategies, some of which were considered largely irrelevant just a couple of years ago. One of these is machine learning, which in 2016 cemented its place in the technology mainstream.

machine learning and e-commerce - disruption in online retail space

#artificialintelligence

The 2017 landscape for retail e-commerce is the ability to understand the customer experiences. The advances in robotics and AI are more relevant in the e-commerce space more than anywhere else. This holds not only true for marketers but also informed decisions that technology has to predict the next customer move. It's no wonder that world economic forum has dubbed 2016 as starting point for fourth industrial revolution The attention span of buyers is very small and incorrect results can lead to potential loss of customers. Machine learning (M/L) algorithms discover complex patterns or data sets that need not have to be preprogrammed.

Dr. Robot, please report to the OR

#artificialintelligence

People's health is a serious business, where the tolerance for error should approach zero. This is certainly one reason that robotic assistance systems have found their way into more and more operating rooms worldwide in recent years, because robots and artificial intelligence can help doctors, nurses and care providers perform at their very best. The most commonly used surgical system using robotic engineering today is DaVinci, which allows doctors to conduct minimally invasive surgeries from a computer screen. DaVinci eliminates unintended movements, such as a tremble of the surgeon's hand. This surgical robot cannot be programmed, however.

Microsoft & Prism Skylabs: Using AI to help organizations search visual data

#artificialintelligence

Prism Skylabs is using Microsoft Cognitive Services to help businesses search, analyze and categorize their videos automatically with artificial intelligence. Prism created its Prism Vision app using the Computer Vision API from Microsoft Cognitive Services. The company also developed strategic partnerships with companies around the world, helping them search through pictures, closed-circuit and security camera footage and other video for specific events, items and people. Through this, the company was able to track and measure 4.5 billion interactions with customers.

How Artificial Intelligence Is Impacting E-Commerce and Consumer Marketing Kahuna

#artificialintelligence

Recently, my colleague, Andrew Eichenbaum, Head of Data Science at Kahuna, and I had the pleasure of sitting down with Michael Krigsman of CXO Talk. Michael conducts interviews on topics that are profoundly changing the technology and business landscape. We spent the hour discussing artificial intelligence and machine learning and how they're transforming consumer engagement and B2C marketing automation. Thanks to recent advancements in machine learning, and the ability to process consumer behavior and activity in real time, we can now offer more & more relevant information and products and therefore scale personalization to millions and millions of individuals within seconds, treating them how they want to be treated--as an audience of one. Whether it's Amazon making super relevant recommendations or Uber being able to predict demand and supply at just at the right time, modern marketers are re-casting customer engagement and commerce entirely.

Microsoft AI's next leap forward: Helping you play video games

#artificialintelligence

Could you be playing the next big video game with your voice? Voice assistants can seem supersmart. Ask my Amazon Alexa why the sky is blue, and you'll get a lesson in light refraction through the atmosphere. Ask it what CNET is and things start to break down. "In addition CNET currently has region-specific and language-specific editions."

FTC: Vizio smart TVs spied on what viewers watched

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Vizio admits they secretly used software to track people's TV viewing habits. Now they've agree to pay $2.2 million to settle a lawsuit with the FTC and New Jersey. TV maker Vizio is paying $2.2 million to settle charges over software on some of its smart TVs used to collect viewing data without consumers' consent. Starting in February 2014, Vizio captured information on 11 million consumer TVs about information about what viewers were watching on cable, streaming services and over-the-air broadcasts without TV owners' knowledge or consent, according to a complaint from the Federal Trade Commission and the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General. The agencies announced the settlement Monday.
