Google AI summaries are ruining the livelihoods of recipe writers: 'It's an extinction event'
'There are a lot of people that are scared to even talk about what's going on because it is their livelihood,' says Jim Delmage who runs the blog and YouTube channel Sip and Feast with his wife, Tara. 'There are a lot of people that are scared to even talk about what's going on because it is their livelihood,' says Jim Delmage who runs the blog and YouTube channel Sip and Feast with his wife, Tara. Google AI summaries are ruining the livelihoods of recipe writers: 'It's an extinction event' T his past March, when Google began rolling out its AI Mode search capability, it began offering AI-generated recipes. The recipes were not all that intelligent. The AI had taken elements of similar recipes from multiple creators and Frankensteined them into something barely recognizable.
The fast and the future-focused are revolutionizing motorsport
From predictive analytics to personalized fan experiences, data and AI are powering the next generation of motorsport, says Rohit Agnihotri, principal technologist at Infosys, and Dan Cherowbrier, CTIO of Formula E. When the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship launched its first race through Beijing's Olympic Park in 2014, the idea of all-electric motorsport still bordered on experimental. Batteries couldn't yet last a full race, and drivers had to switch cars mid-competition. Just over a decade later, Formula E has evolved into a global entertainment brand broadcast in 150 countries, driving both technological innovation and cultural change in sport. Gen4, that's to come next year, says Dan Cherowbrier, Formula E's chief technology and information officer. You will see a really quite impressive car that starts us to question whether EV is there. Formula E's digital transformation, powered by its partnership with Infosys, is redefining what it means to be a fan. "It's a movement to make motor sport accessible and exciting for the new generation," says principal technologist at Infosys, Rohit Agnihotri. From real-time leaderboards and predictive tools to personalized storylines that adapt to what individual fans care most about--whether it's a driver rivalry or battery performance--Formula E and Infosys are using AI-powered platforms to create fan experiences as dynamic as the races themselves. Technology is not just about meeting expectations; it's elevating the entire fan experience and making the sport more inclusive, says Agnihotri. AI is also transforming how the organization itself operates. Historically, we would be going around the company, banging on everyone's doors and dragging them towards technology, making them use systems, making them move things to the cloud, Cherowbrier notes.
Watch: Chris Martin surprises couple with performance at their wedding
Coldplay's Chris Martin made a surprise appearance at a couple's wedding to play the music for their first dance. The groom's mother had asked the singer for a video message to be played at the wedding of Abbie and James Hotchkiss from Stafford. He went one better, though, and said he would appear in person, with only the newlyweds and the groom's parents in on the secret. Surprised guests saw him walk into the wedding venue, Blithfield Lakeside Barns in Staffordshire, wearing a white beanie hat to perform All My Love at the piano while the couple danced. Guests took a while to notice it was actually him, but didn't want to ruin our wedding day so asked us loads of questions once he'd gone, Mrs Hotchkiss said.
Nvidia Becomes a Major Model Maker With Nemotron 3
The world's top chipmaker wants open source AI to succeed--perhaps because closed models increasingly run on its rivals' silicon. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang arrives for a meeting with lawmakers in Washington, DC. Nvidia has made a fortune supplying chips to companies working on artificial intelligence, but today the chipmaker took a step toward becoming a more serious model maker itself by releasing a series of cutting-edge open models, along with data and tools to help engineers use them. The move, which comes at a moment when AI companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are developing increasingly capable chips of their own, could be a hedge against these firms veering away from Nvidia's technology over time. Open models are already a crucial part of the AI ecosystem with many researchers and startups using them to experiment, prototype, and build.
The best chocolate chip cookie recipe, according to science
Understanding a bit of chemistry can transform your baking skills. The perfect cookie is a matter of taste, but these tips and tricks can help you develop your perfect recipe. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. "Cooking is art--but baking is science," Bill Nye the Science Guy once said . While a batch of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies doesn't resemble anything you'd whip up in a chemistry lab (hopefully), there's plenty of chemistry happening in your oven.
I thought AI would replace Photoshop. Here's why I still do it myself

Here's why I still do it myself Now that the novelty of generative AI is wearing off, it's clear that there are some serious limitations. When ChatGPT first debuted, I thought my days as a writer were numbered. There are so many things it can do, and I imagine artists have had similar pangs of fearful panic as generative AI keeps getting ever better at creating lifelike and/or stylized images.

A person holds a fake $1,000 bill signed by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang following a campaign event in Iowa City, Iowa, on 29 January 2020. Why universal basic income still can't meet the challenges of an AI economy Andrew Yang's revived pitch suits the automation debate, but UBI can't fix inequalities concentrated tech wealth drives Universal basic income (UBI) is back, like a space zombie in a sci-fi movie, resurrected from policy oblivion, hungry for policymakers' attention: brains! Andrew Yang, whose "Yang Gang" enthusiasm briefly shook up the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 promoting a "Freedom Dividend" to save workers from automation - $1,000 a month for every American adult - is again the main carrier of the bug: offering UBI to save the nation when robots eat all our jobs. This time Chat GPT, Yang hopes, will help his argument land: if artificial intelligence truly makes human labor redundant, as so many citizens of the tech bubble in Silicon Valley expect, society will need something other than employment for all of us to make ends meet.
This Startup Wants to Build Self-Driving Car Software--Super Fast
The autonomous vehicle industry is heating up thanks to advances in AI. But can those same innovations help startups like HyprLabs build safe tech? For the last year and a half, two hacked white Tesla Model 3 sedans each loaded with five extra cameras and one palm-sized supercomputer have quietly cruised around San Francisco . In a city and era swarming with questions about the capabilities and limits of artificial intelligence, the startup behind the modified Teslas is trying to answer what amounts to a simple question: How quickly can a company build autonomous vehicle software today? The startup, which is making its activities public for the first time today, is called HyprLabs .
