There is a lot of fiction about artificial intelligence and this book gives a lot of good information on what artificial intelligence actually is. As a new advancement in technology AI can be very beneficial for operating more efficiently and making things easier. Their is a lot of choice with AI and over time I know there will be even more advancements so it is very useful to learn about now!

While the overall physical retail market has struggled, consumer-electronics sales have been booming, and you can largely thank Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) for that. The online giant, which passed Wal-Mart as the No. 2 electronics retailer in 2016, was expected to pass Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) for the top spot, according to Quartz. To put Amazon's impact into perspective, the company accounted for 90% of the $5.6 billion growth the consumer-electronics industry in 2015, according to an analyst note from Deutsche Bank sent in June 2016. Amazon is absolutely a must-buy in this space, but so are Best Buy and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Best Buy is kind of the last man standing when it comes to traditional electronis retailers on a national level.

If Lowe's has its way, they'll help store staff fetch your giant bucket of paint. The home improvement retailer has partnered with Virginia Tech to test prototype passive exoskeletons that make it easier to haul heavy objects. Carbon fiber in the suits' back and legs serves as a "taut bow" that stores energy when you bend down -- that energy comes back the moment you stand back up, making it much easier to lift that heavy bag of concrete. The material's flexible nature should also help the suits feel relatively comfortable... a rather important consideration for warehouse workers who may need to wear it for an entire shift. Only four suits are currently in testing at a store in Christiansburg, Virginia.

This is a very nice introduction into Neural Networks. I have been recommending this to my friends and family. Even if you are afraid of the mathematics involved, the appendix in the book covers what you need to know in order to make sense of the math (most of it is simple algebra) with just a bit of derivatives that involve the chain rule. This is one of the few books that not only goes over the theory but also the step by step implementation (training your network to recognize handwritten numbers in Python) as well as testing the code and making minor tweaks to show how that will affect the overall accuracy of the network. For an added bonus, the author includes a chapter describing how you can train the network to recognize your own handwriting and things you can do to further increase the accuracy.

Large retailers are starting to utilise machine learning, combined with predictive analytics, to assist them in enhancing consumer engagement and in creating more accurate demand forecasts as they expand into new sales channels. With machine learning, computers learn by mining massive amounts of big data, without human intervention, to provide unprecedented consumer demand insights. When one couples machine learning with other technologies, like facial recognition solutions, says David Cosgrave, Customer Intelligence Lead at SAS, there is the potential to shift from active engagement to automated engagement in the retail space. "A good example of how such automated engagement may change the retail experience in the future can be found in the experimental Amazon Go shop. This is a new US store, for Amazon employees, which is completely automated. Consumers simply walk in, choose their products and walk out, and the in-store technology detects who is taking what thanks to facial recognition software. This is combined with deep learning that enables the system to know what products have been taken, and the system automatically debits the user's account."

Developments in the field of artificial intelligence are incredible, almost as if they are from a different world. Investors spend millions in the development of AI. The most active technology is used in the field of Internet search, helping to shape the Google search engine and handle voice assistant requests. AI becomes more perfect with each passing day. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that this technology is increasingly being used for online retailers.

First, the good: This book is a great read, both the code and non-code sections. Peter Norvig is clearly passionate about AI, and it comes through in his examples. His writing is clear and fun to read. His code examples are fantastic. When he begins a chapter by describing a problem, you think "wow, that's going to take ages to get through."
