#artificialintelligence

You may not realise it, but AI is already a part of your everyday life. From the route your morning commute takes to the articles recommended to you online, AI is slowly but surely becoming ubiquitous. And as AI technology continues to develop, its impact will only become more pronounced. Here are three ways that AI is transforming everyday life. AI is making commuting easier and more efficient than ever before.

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (Studies in Computational Intelligence, 917): Lu, Huimin: 9783030561772: Amazon.com: Books

#artificialintelligence

This book provides insights into research in the field of artificial intelligence in combination with robotics technologies. The integration of artificial intelligence and robotic technologies is a highly topical area for researchers and developers from academia and industry around the globe, and it is likely that artificial intelligence will become the main approach for the next generation of robotics research. The tremendous number of artificial intelligence algorithms and big data solutions has significantly extended the range of potential applications for robotic technologies, and has also brought new challenges for the artificial intelligence community. Sharing recent advances in the field, the book features papers by young researchers presented at the 4th International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics 2019 (ISAIR2019), held in Daegu, Korea, on August 20โ€“24, 2019.

Learn How Amazon SageMaker Clarify Helps Detect Bias

#artificialintelligence

Bias detection in data and model outcomes is a fundamental requirement for building responsible artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models. Unfortunately, detecting bias isn't an easy task for the vast majority of practitioners due to the large number of ways in which it can be measured and different factors that can contribute to a biased outcome. For instance, an imbalanced sampling of the training data may result in a model that is less accurate for certain subsets of the data. Bias may also be introduced by the ML algorithm itself--even with a well-balanced training dataset, the outcomes might favor certain subsets of the data as compared to the others. To detect bias, you must have a thorough understanding of different types of bias and the corresponding bias metrics. For example, at the time of this writing, Amazon SageMaker Clarify offers 21 different metrics to choose from.

Ray Cooke, Ex-Hanwha SVP, Joins Dragonfruit AI to Drive Retail Business in North America

#artificialintelligence

Dragonfruit AI, retail's first massively scalable video AI platform, is pleased to announce that Ray Cooke most recently SVP at Hanwha Techwin America โ€“ has joined the company as Vice President of Business Development. Dragonfruit's Frontier was custom-built for Retail Loss Prevention/Asset Protection (Video Summaries, ORC Investigations, OSHA Compliance, Slip/Fall, Liquid Spill), Store Operations (Checkout Metrics, Point-of-Sale Analysis with Video Verification) and Marketing/Merchandising (In-store Commerce Funnels). Designed from the ground-up for multi-location retailers, Frontier combines a powerful Base Station leveraging the Apple M1 architecture with advanced cloud intelligence. Starting at just $900/location/year, Frontier provides the flexibility for retailers to start solving their most pressing needs and add on more capabilities as required. In his new role, Cooke will help large-scale retailers use Frontier to derive insights from their video to address pivotal challenges โ€“ such as optimizing staffing, detecting unsafe conditions, accelerating investigations, managing store layouts and streamlining operations.

Robot that stocks drinks is newest thing at the corner store

#artificialintelligence

A small robot with a clip-like hand and enough smarts to know which drinks are popular is part of an effort to make convenience stores even more convenient. On a recent day in Tokyo, the robot named TX SCARA slid back and forth behind the refrigerated shelves in the back of a FamilyMart store. The hand on the end of its mechanical arm grasped a bottle or can from the stacks to the side, then the robot slithered to the right spot and placed the drink on the shelf -- in a place chosen after its artificial intelligence and tiny cameras matched the kind of beverage to what's running short. TX SCARA is filling a needed role in Japan's "conbini," as the ubiquitous tiny stores selling snacks, drinks and knick-knacks are called. Most such stores are open 24-seven, filled with 3,000 kinds of products, but have relatively few workers.

Automation is usually associated with machines. But it's office jobs that are most under threat

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence and automation are seeping into our daily working lives -- and female office workers are among those whose jobs are being taken over by machines. That's according to new research provided to ABC News by an Australian teaching organisation that's urging people to upskill so they don't find themselves out of work. Pearson's research looks at roles that are likely to be automated as technology advances. Historically, much of the conversation when it comes to automation has been about robots taking over factory jobs, or even replacing retail assistants in the form of self-service check-outs at supermarkets. Pearson's data also shows the less obvious pictures of automation encroaching into office environments, including for medical receptionists, accountants and personal assistants.
