The Tesla Model 3 earned the 2019 Top Safety Pick award from the organization after achieving a "good" performance in all six IIHS crash tests. The compact car also had to perform well in a headlight test and in a test for its frontal-crash prevention systems. The accomplishment reflects a significant endorsement of Tesla's safety systems, which CEO Elon Musk has often touted.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) form two of the most powerful emerging technologies to enter the world of business today. Both of these advancements can be used in tandem with one another to benefit sales teams in the short and long term. AI enables a system to determine the most efficient method of doing something, given a framework of parameters. ML extends AI, making it able to learn from its missteps. Below, 11 members of Forbes Business Development Council chime in on the ways sales teams can leverage AI and ML to increase the efficiency of their operations and overcome the most common hurdles they may encounter.

Robot shipments are expected to jump 39% from 2018 to 2022 from a record annual sales level of $16.5 billion last year, according to the World Robotics report. More than a third of global installations were in China and the top five countries hold 74% of the market. China's investment in robots reached $5.4 billion last year. "We saw a dynamic performance in 2018 with a new sales record, even as the main customers for robots – the automotive and electrical-electronics industry – had a difficult year," says Junji Tsuda, President of the International Federation of Robotics. "The U.S.-China trade conflict imposes uncertainty to the global economy – customers tend to postpone investments."

Multimedia editing and transcription provider Descript is today announcing a redesigned version of its audio editing software that's geared toward podcast producers. The product, officially called Descript Podcast Studio, features a lot of the forward-thinking approaches to audio editing the company, created by Groupon founder and former CEO Andrew Mason, was founded on. Most prominently, that includes the ability to easily edit an artificial intelligence-generated transcription of your audio file as if you were editing a word document. Essentially, Descript turns your audio into text, broken up by who's speaking, and it then lets you manipulate those audio files as if you were editing on a text version of the script in a word processor. Delete a sentence or two, and Descript will automatically shorten the file to make the recording sound smooth and natural.

Rather than limiting the company's talent pool to those who can afford to fly, they focus first on finding people who would be good, solid team players for their company, and then provide the training they need to be successful. Finding people who have a passion for a job, then training them to do the job makes a lot of sense. Based on an algorithm the company has developed to determine what will make the most successful piloting candidate, the company guarantees a piloting job to every candidate it accepts to its training program. Another way AI is changing the future of work relates to the ability of an organization to empower workers. Dell Digital's Greg Bowen discussed the concept of supporting distributed and remote workers by creating platforms that enable real-time collaboration. The future of work is both employee and values-driven, he says, and AI is part of that shift. In terms of challenges AI faces, there are many things that make tech adoption and rollout a challenge, the most important of which is culture.

Innovations in cancer research through interdisciplinary team science approaches will help shape the future of patient care. Integration and mining of health care data from various sources will allow researchers to gain more insights into cancer biology and thereby improve patient outcomes. Cutting-edge technologies that fuel the full spectrum of cancer science from bench to bedside will accelerate the pace at which we increase our understanding of cancer biology while transforming the future of clinical practice. This is an exciting era of cancer research. Approval of novel therapeutics, coupled with an increasing public awareness of cancer prevention and early detection, has led to dramatic reductions in overall cancer mortality rates for all Americans. Recent discoveries in the fields of cancer genomics and immunology have firmly established two new pillars of cancer care--molecularly targeted therapy and immunotherapy--which are benefiting many patients with a wide range of cancer types.
