How AI is transforming education and skills development 7wData
Artificial intelligence can help us to solve some of society's most difficult challenges and create a safer, healthier and more prosperous world for all. I've already shared the exciting possibilities in the fields of healthcare and agriculture in previous posts. But there may be no area where the possibilities are more interesting โ or more important โ than Education and skills. From personalized learning that takes advantage of AI to adapt teaching methods and materials to the needs of individual students, to automated grading that frees teachers from the drudgery of assessing tests so they have more time to work with students, to intelligent systems that are transforming how learners find and interact with information, the opportunities to improve Education outcomes and accessibility will be truly transformational. There are many classrooms around the world where educators teach very diverse groups of students from different cultures, who speak multiple languages.
Smarter guns for dumber gun control
Last week I saw two articles about "smarter guns": an op-ed titled "Use AI to stop carnage", and a comment to that op-ed asking "Can smarter guns end the gun control debate? The author of the op-ed is S. Bringsjord, professor in a departments of Cognitive Science and Computer Science and an expert in logic and philosophy, specializing in AI and reasoning. The comment to his proposal says he is "comfortable speaking with media and available to speak about the concept of ethical guns". I look forward to reading his answers to my perplexities here. Those smart weapons would use ethical artificial intelligence to know, in any circumstance, that they have "no business being used anytime soon".
Municipality Kate More Than a Chatbot for Finland Accenture
Municipality Kate enables the city of Riihimรคki to interact with its citizens 24/7 and has streamlined a number of previously time-consuming processes. In getting Municipality Kate live, Riihimรคki's different departments needed to collaborate to ensure a holistic service for citizens, meaning some departmental boundaries were broken down for the first time. It has helped to make municipal decision-making processes more aligned with what citizens really want, as more information about their needs is available than ever before. Riihimรคki's citizens have responded positively to the new service, taking advantage of the ability to have conversations around the clock, with peak usage taking place in the evenings from six to nine and in the mornings before office hours. New platforms like Municipality Kate will help citizens engage and conduct business with municipalities faster, with greater convenience, more accuracy and far more efficiency than ever before.

How AI and ML are transforming digital marketing together
Artificial Intelligence or AI, is having a huge say in how digital marketing is being done these days. It is the latest go-to technology for every successful and aspiring digital marketing agency. Its addition to digital marketing seems to have opened up a new dimension with business owners delivering the customer experiences of a lifetime and buyers too revelling in it. Never before has marketing interaction been so fruitful, data been so easy to analyse and product promotion been so enjoyable. With consumers getting to see their virtual selves in front of them, the consumer-seller relationship is being redefined, all thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.
Digital Transformation and AI Go Hand in Hand Analytics Insight
Ten years ago, numerous organizations could accomplish the upper hand by deploying technologies and trends that were at that point in progress. Today, this sort of reactive methodology is never again enough. To remain on top of things, organizations must work deliberately to detect new advancements and potential outcomes, characterize their aspirations for tomorrow, and journey beyond the digital frontier. The digital transformation journey has traversed digitization to digitalization, with different information advances turning into the predominant driving force. To the degree that data-driven technologies are showing a few advances in digital innovations as significant, the following boondocks in reshaping organizations is AI transformation. Improvements in AI (for the most part controlled by advancements in ML combined with data-driven advancements) are pushing digital ventures toward becoming intelligent enterprises.
Thoughtfully Using Artificial Intelligence in Earth Science - Eos
Deriving scientific insights from artificial intelligence methods requires adhering to best practices and moving beyond off-the-shelf approaches. Artificial intelligence (AI) methods have emerged as useful tools in many Earth science domains (e.g., climate models, weather prediction, hydrology, space weather, and solid Earth). AI methods are being used for tasks of prediction, anomaly detection, event classification, and onboard decision-making on satellites, and they could potentially provide high-speed alternatives for representing subgrid processes in climate models [Rasp et al., 2018; Brenowitz and Bretherton, 2019]. Although the use of AI methods has spiked dramatically in recent years, we caution that their use in Earth science should be approached with vigilance and accompanied by the development of best practices for their use. Without best practices, inappropriate use of these methods might lead to "bad science," which could create a general backlash in the Earth science community against the use of AI methods.
Halt to China research would 'hurt', Microsoft says
Microsoft does more research and development in China than it does anywhere else outside the United States. But, as US-China relations continue to sour on issues of trade and cyber-security, the decades-long ties Microsoft has in China are coming under close scrutiny. In an interview with BBC News, Microsoft's chief executive Satya Nadella has said that despite national security concerns, backing out of China would "hurt more" than it solved. "A lot of AI research happens in the open, and the world benefits from knowledge being open," he said. "That to me is been what's been true since the Renaissance and the scientific revolution. Therefore, I think, for us to say that we will put barriers on it may in fact hurt more than improve the situation everywhere."
Despite temporary truce in U.S.-China trade war, long list of grievances remains
WASHINGTON โ The Trump administration and China declared a temporary truce Friday in their 15-month-long trade war. However, the grievances that led them to impose tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of each other's goods remain largely unresolved. The administration agreed to suspend a tariff hike on $250 billion worth of Chinese imports that was set to take effect Tuesday. And China agreed to buy up to $50 billion of U.S. farm products. The de-escalation in tension between the world's two largest economies was welcomed by financial markets.
