Cannes Lions, the glitzy celebration of all things advertising, had been set to take place next week. But when Covid-19 hit in the spring, advertising's biggest event of the year was canceled for 2020. But that hasn't stopped ad-tech firm Cognitiv from celebrating the festival's signature tipple.A tribute to HBO hit series Silicon Valley's Not Hotdog app, Cognitiv created its own Rosé/Not Rosé app to detect whether the drink in a user's hand is indeed rosé. The app, set to be released next week, draws on machine learning to pick out the beverage's light-pink hue--or lack thereof--from a user-submitted selfie.But while the app itself offers a bit of levity, the underlying programming was far from simple, Cognitiv CEO and co-founder Jeremy Fain told Adweek. "It's one thing to train a deep-learning algorithm to identify wine. It's totally another level to develop an algorithm that can accurately discern between rosé, red wine, white wine or water."

BuildingIQ's Predictive Energy Optimization (PEO) service uses cloud-based software to calculate heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) related utility expenses.


Enko Chem raises $45 million to develop crop protection solutions with AI

Enko Chem, which harnesses machine learning to help farmers sustainably protect their crops from pests and disease, has raised $45 million. Founder and CEO Jacqueline Heard said the funds will be used to expand the Boston-based startup's technology platform and ready its pipeline of crop protection solutions for field testing and regulatory trials. Enko also plans to continue pursuing studies and collaborations with industry partners as part of its broader mission. Protecting crops from pests is no easy feat. A recent study showed that worldwide, over 600 species of insects and fungi have developed a level of pesticide resistance, threatening losses in yield of between 10.1% and 40.9% for crops like rice, corn, potatoes, and soybeans. In the U.S. alone, insecticides are used to protect crops on approximately 45 million acres, and it's estimated yields would decrease by 40% to 50% without treatment.

Tools For Building Machine Learning Models On Android

Ever since Android first came into existence in 2008, it has become the world's biggest mobile platform in terms of popularity and number of users. Over the years, Android developers have built advances in machine learning, features like on-device speech recognition, real-time video interactiveness, and real-time enhancements when taking a photo/selfie. In addition, image recognition with machine learning can enable users to point their smartphone camera at text and have it live-translated into 88 different languages with the help of Google Translate. Android users can even point your camera at a beautiful flower, use Google Lens to identify what type of flower that is, and then set a reminder to order a bouquet for someone. Google Lens is able to use computer vision models to expand and speed up web search and mobile experience.

Scientist at NASA are going to use artificial intelligence to help search for alien life in rock samples on Mars on the European Space Agency ExoMars mission in 2022 that was supposed to take place this summer but due to corona-virus it has been delayed . The European Space Agency (ESA) Rosalind Franklin'ExoMars' rover will be the first to have the novel AI system when it takes off for Earth's Red neighbour in 2022. This will massively improve the efficiency of the transfer of data between planets as the transfer of data is expensive and time consuming, however the artificial intelligent system has been trained to cut unnecessary data and both analyse and rely it back to us on Earth overcoming the limits of interplanetary data transfer.
