Drones add 'dinosaur hunting' to their expanding list of jobs

Drones are changing the ways in which scientists' investigate the footprints left behind by dinosaurs. Researchers in Australia have started using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to map prehistoric tracks in remote locations and are using the data to build 3D models of track sites. They're also using lidar, a laser scanning technology, and light aircraft to aid their research, which is detailed in a paper published at PeerJ. Robots 'will take 10million British jobs in 15 years'

More than ten million workers could be replaced by robots over the next 15 years, it is claimed today. In an alarming vision, a report predicts jobs in shops, offices and factories could be made redundant by advances in technology such as artificial intelligence. Most workers at high risk are in transportation and storage, retail, manufacturing, and administrative and support services, experts found. The report, by accountancy giant PwC, said up to 10.4million jobs – 30 per cent of those in the UK – are very likely to be automated by the early 2030s. The development of driverless cars, lorries and vans means workers in the transportation and storage sector are at particularly high risk.

But EO-1 is finally out of fuel, and at the end of the month the craft's operating team will close up shop. Already out of fuel, EO-1 itself will continue to slowly shuffle off its orbital coil until it burns up in Earth's atmosphere.

More sounds could follow, since the underlying software can also identify noises like sighs, barks, and knocks.

Twitter is considering building a premium version of its app that people will have to pay for, the company has said. The company is looking to create a paid-for version of its popular app Tweetdeck, it said. That could raise the possibility that it will charge suscription fees to use – a major break from its own strategy as well as those used by every other major social media company. Like its rivals, Twitter has looked to make money through advertising. But unlike Facebook and the range of companies it owns like Instagram, that advertising revenue hasn't worked out to enough to allow it to turn a profit.
