The Gentlest Introduction to Tensorflow – Part 1

@machinelearnbot

We are going to solve an overly simple, and unrealistic problem, which has the upside of making understanding the concepts of ML and TF easy. We want to predict a single scalar outcome, house price (in $) based on a single feature, house size (in square meters, sqm). This eradicates the need to handle multi-dimensional data, enabling us to focus solely on defining a model, implementing, and training it in TF. We start with a set of data points that we have collected (chart below), each representing the relationship between two values --an outcome (house price) and the influencing feature (house size). However, we cannot predict values for features that we don't have data points for (chart below) We can use ML to discover the relationship (the'best-fit prediction line' in the chart below), such that given a feature value that is not part of the data points, we can predict the outcome accurately (the intersection between the feature value and the prediction line.

Farpoint review: A mediocre PSVR game, but the Aim controller is excellent

The Independent - Tech

Sony's attempt at introducing Virtual Reality to millions of homes has been quite impressive, the device having sold unexpectedly big numbers. However, console accessories often fail to continuously sell without a'killer app'. For instance, the Nintendo Switch's reasonably rubbish release line-up was improved phenomenally by Zelda: Breath of the Wind, the console selling by the millions as a result. So far, the best VR-only experiences have been Batman, Rigs, and REZ (Resident Evil VII was playable in VR but better played as a normal console game) but none have been'must-play' games. Packaged with the Aim controller, this first-person shooter has potential but bores relatively quickly.

Re-educating Rita

#artificialintelligence

IN JULY 2011 Sebastian Thrun, who among other things is a professor at Stanford, posted a short video on YouTube, announcing that he and a colleague, Peter Norvig, were making their "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" course available free online. By the time the course began in October, 160,000 people in 190 countries had signed up for it. At the same time Andrew Ng, also a Stanford professor, made one of his courses, on machine learning, available free online, for which 100,000 people enrolled. Both courses ran for ten weeks. Such online courses, with short video lectures, discussion boards for students and systems to grade their coursework automatically, became known as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Google Personal will make people use Google even more than they already do

Moving towards a machine learning economy in marketing

#artificialintelligence

As the world evolves to a more digitised era, new and emerging innovations will disrupt the way different industries operate. In the field of marketing, we have witnessed the transformation of marketing strategies to meet evolving consumer expectations. Traditionally, consumers are pulled to a physical shopping space and today, it has transformed to one which is highly digitised where products are now pushed according to the data received and analyzed by various businesses online. With the Big Data Revolution, the processes involved in making sense of such data become even more complex. But the dawn of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning might assist in simplifying these processes.

Impactful text analytics for smarter businesses

However, most importantly, the restaurant owner has the most scope for extracting valuable snippets of insights from customer reviews with ratings between 3-4/5. I recently had a chance to deliver a talk in a conference titled'Understanding Consumers in the Digital World', held at IIM Lucknow, Noida Campus on 16-17th November 2015. The audience mainly comprised of marketers, market research professionals and academics whose work is primarily focused on obtaining deep insights by understanding the online consumers. My talk was titled'Decoding Ratings for superior service in restaurants – Using text to understand customers'. The focus was quite simple – convince and demonstrate how to read and understand customers from their reviews, not ratings. Our product, Lunchbox, a complete restaurant management solution was showcased as well.

Google Chrome redesign: How to get the new layout early

The Independent - Tech

Google has redesigned the Chrome app, and Android users can test its new layout now. The company has tweaked the browser's user interface, making its core features easier to access. The address bar has been moved from the top of the screen to the bottom, which is a sensible switch considering that's where your thumbs naturally rest when you hold a smartphone. With phone displays seemingly getting larger and larger by the year, making the top of the screen harder to reach, it's likely that the bottom of your phone will be home to the address bar for the considerable future. Google has also created the Chrome Home Expand Button, an arrow key you can tap for fast access to your favourite websites and news stories Google think you'll be interested in.

APAC Marketers Need AI & Data to Handle Complex Customer Journey ExchangeWire.com

#artificialintelligence

Consumers in Asia are more willing to spend time researching products to find the right brand that works for them, which paves the way for companies to build long-term relationships with their customers. The region, however, also is widely disparate with varying smartphone penetration rates. Given this, brands will need to depend on local skillsets to reach out to customers via different touchpoints, says Simon Tate, Salesforce.com's area vice president for commercial business. They also will need customer relationship management (CRM) tools that are highly automated and can capture real-time data signals to help them build a more complete profile of their customers, Tate notes in this Q&A with ExchangeWire. He adds that artificial intelligence can clock in and fill gaps in customer service, as well as help businesses anticipate opportunities and deliver proactive services.
