Artificial Intelligence Is Only Dangerous If Humans Use It Foolishly

#artificialintelligence

It is the nature of technology to improve over time. As it progresses, technology brings humanity forward with it. Yet, there is a certain fear that surrounds technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, in part due to how these have been portrayed in science fiction. This fear, however, is mostly a fear of the unknown. For the most part, humankind doesn't know what will come of the continued improvement of AI systems.

Is China in the driver's seat when it comes to AI?

#artificialintelligence

In the battle of technology innovation between East and West, artificial intelligence (AI) is on the frontline. And China's influence is growing. AI is seen as a key to unlocking big data and the Internet of Things. It allows us to make better decisions faster, and will soon enable smarter cities, self-driving cars, personalized medicines and other new commercial applications to potentially help solve various global problems. The AI field is going through a time of rapid progress, with improvements in processor design and advances in machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing.

How artificial intelligence can assist telecoms for customer retention TelecomLead

#artificialintelligence

Telecom operators have started using artificial intelligence (AI) technology capabilities that process and analyze real-time customer data to recommend and automatically trigger the next best action. Ooredoo, a top telecom operator in the Middle East, is investing in artificial intelligence technology to ensure next-generation customer experience to its mobile phone users in Qatar – as part of its digital strategy. Vodafone India faced 4.8 percent churn in fiscal 2017 as compared with 4.3 percent n fiscal 2016 due to competition. Churn of post-paid customers was 1.9 percent against 1.8 percent. Churn of pre-paid users was 5 percent against 4.5 percent.

To Accelerate Artificial Intelligence, NVIDIA & Baidu Signed Partnership

#artificialintelligence

NVIDIA and Baidu announced a broad partnership to bring the world's leading artificial intelligence technology j cloud computing, self-driving vehicles and AI home assistants. Speaking in the keynote at Baidu's AI developer conference in Beijing, Baidu president and COO Qi Lu described his company's plans to work with NVIDIA to bring next-generation NVIDIA Volta GPUs to Baidu Cloud, providing cloud customers with the world's leading deep learning platform. This partnership will adopt NVIDIA's DRIVE PX platform for Baidu's self-driving car initiative, and develop self-driving cars with major Chinese carmakers. Optimize Baidu's PaddlePaddle open source deep learning framework for NVIDIA Volta GPUs and make it widely available to academics and researchers. "NVIDIA and Baidu have pioneered significant advances in deep learning and AI," said Ian Buck, NVIDIA vice president and general manager of accelerated computing.

The E-Dimension: Why Machine Learning Doesn't Work Well for Some Problems?

@machinelearnbot

Machine Learning (ML) is closely related to computational statistics which focuses on prediction-making through the use of computers. ML is a modern approach to an old problem: predictive inference. It makes an inference from "feature" space to "outcome/target" space. In order to work properly, an ML algorithm has to discover and model hidden relationships between the feature space and the outcome space and create links between the two. Doing so requires overcoming barriers such as feature noise (randomness of features due to unexplained mechanisms). In this article we argue that "Emergence" is also a barrier for predictive inference.

Kiwi startup Soul Machines reveals latest artificial intelligence creation, Rachel

#artificialintelligence

A Kiwi company developing artificial intelligence has delivered its latest digital human, called Rachel. Rachel can see, hear and respond to you. She is an avatar created by two-time Oscar winner Mark Sagar, who worked on the blockbuster movie of the same name. Mr Sagar, of Auckland-based company Soul Machines, says his aim is to make man socialise with machine, by putting a human face on artificial intelligence. "So what we are doing with Soul Machines is trying to build the central nervous system for humanising this kind of computer," he says.
