Wyze's revamped Lock Bolt gets Wi-Fi, tempered glass redesign

Wyze's revamped Lock Bolt gets Wi-Fi, tempered glass redesign The second-generation version of Wyze's smart deadbolt no longer settles for Bluetooth-only connectivity. We were fans of Wyze's original smart deadbolt from 2022--heck we even gave it an Editors' Choice award--but it arrived with a key drawback: it only supported Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi or any other wireless protocols. While the first Wyze Lock Bolt is inexpensive compared to other smart locks in its class and boasts an easy setup process, its lack of Wi-Fi or other wireless connectivity means it can't be controlled remotely without help from the Wyze Video Doorbell. It also suffered from a ho-hum industrial design, and there's no keyhole option.

Wyze unleashes its first 4K camera with Cam Pan v4
Wyze was an early player in the budget home security camera game, but it's been slow to adopt 4K video resolution--until now, anyway. Available starting today, the Wyze Cam Pan v4 marks the manufacturer's first 4K security cam, following in the footsteps of TP-Link's Tapo and other home security brands that have already gone the 4K route. Landing just two weeks after Wyze's dual-lens Duo Cam Pan (which packs a pair of 2K cameras), the Wyze Cam Pan v4 carries over most of the features of its predecessor, the Cam Pan v3 from 2023. Among those features are 180-degree tilt coverage and 360-degree panning, along with IP65-rated weather protection, meaning it's dust-tight and resistant to low-pressure water jets sprayed from any angle. Compatible with Alexa and Google Home (but not Apple Home), the Cam Pan v4 also offers color night vision, two-way audio (albeit with an "improved" speaker and microphone this time around), and a privacy mode that points the camera lens straight down.
Wyze's new security cam screws into a standard light socket
Looking to skip the hassle of wall-mounting a security camera in your backyard and wiring it for power? If you have an available outdoor light socket, this new Wyze cam and smart bulb combo can be screwed right into it. Available now, the Wyze Blub Cam ( 49.98) is pretty much what it says: a smart bulb with an integrated security camera. Screw-in security cameras are plentiful on Amazon, but they typically come from no-name brands and (generally speaking) offer only iffy quality. But we're starting to see light socket-compatible cams from more reputable companies, including a recent 2K model from Lorex, and now we have Wyze's entry in the market.
Roku is moving into smart home gear with Wyze's help
Roku is expanding beyond home theater setups and into smart home devices. The initial batch of Roku Smart Home products, on which it collaborated with Wyze, includes a smart doorbell, cameras, smart bulbs, smart light strips and smart plugs. The company didn't reveal specs for the devices in advance, but previous reports suggested they are rebadged versions of Wyze products, including Cam v3, Cam Pan V2 and Bulb Color. The floodlight camera, video doorbell and indoor plug, for instance, look just like Wyze's own offerings. Roku's versions, however, will tie into its other products and services.
Best cheap security camera
Smart home technology has made home security systems cheaper than ever. And while you can still pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a comprehensive system covering the interior and exterior of your property, it's possible to pick up an internet-connected, high definition security camera for significantly less. While many readers will be aware of smart security cameras from Nest, Ring and Arlo, these generally carry three-figure price tags. For this article, we're focusing on security cameras that cost significantly less, and which are closer to the $50 level. This means they don't necessarily have the same intelligence as more expensive options, but they still get the job done, and provide your smart home with an extra level of security.
Wyze's new smart garage controller monitors your door using a QR code
Wyze's new smart garage controller monitors your door using a QR code - 3 minutes read Smart garage door openers that rely on contact sensors can be unreliable for a variety of reasons. Wyze addresses this dilemma with its new garage door controller that uses "AI vision-sensing" technology to check whether the garage door is open or shut. The smart garage door controller ships as part of a $40 bundle that includes a Wyze Cam v3, one of the company's best indoor security cameras that regularly costs $30. Unlike other connected garage door controllers, Wyze's latest offering detects whether your door is open or closed by scanning for a QR code. The package includes a QR code sticker that you'll have to stick to the inside of the garage door.
Wyze Bulb Color review: Wyze's first color smart bulb is this close to being our favorite
It sure took long enough for Wyze Labs to unwrap a color smart bulb, but the Wyze Bulb Color was worth the wait. Available in a four-pack for $35, the Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth-enabled Bulb Color doesn't need a hub, and it packs features that most color smart bulbs in this price range don't, including sleep/wake routines and a vacation mode. The new Wyze bulb is also unusually bright given its price range, while the slick, intuitive Wyze app makes it easy to group multiple bulbs together. Tempering our enthusiasm is the fact that one of the Bulb Color's most enticing features--the ability to change color depending on triggers from the Wyze Cam, Wyze Lock, and other Wyze Labs devices--is a work in progress. This review is part of TechHive's coverage of the best smart LED bulbs, where you'll find reviews of the competition's offerings, plus a buyer's guide to the features you should consider when shopping this category.
Ring's $60 Video Doorbell Wired aims to take on Wyze
Budget smart home manufacturer Ring hasn't been feeling so budget lately with the likes of Wyze unleashing one ultra-cheap (and consistently impressive) smart gadget after another. But with its latest video doorbell, Amazon-owned Ring might lure some bargain-hunting smart home shoppers who have otherwise been going the Wyze way. The new Video Doorbell Wired marks Ring's smallest doorbell yet, and at $60, it's also the least expensive--not as inexpensive as the $30 Wyze Video Doorbell, mind you, but it's a start. Slated to ship on February 24, the Ring Video Doorbell Wired is a good $40 cheaper than Ring's least expensive doorbell, the battery-powered $100 Ring Video Doorbell. It's also much less pricey than Ring's two existing wired doorbells, the $250 Video Doorbell Pro and the $350 Video Doorbell EliteRemove non-product link.
Wyze's Outdoor Cam is the best outdoor security camera for the money
Here are the Wyze Outdoor Cam's specs: The Wyze Outdoor Starter Bundle includes one Outdoor Cam and one base station required for use. Running on two 2,600 mAh integrated rechargeable batteries, Wyze's Outdoor Cam is completely wire-free and claims a battery life of three to six months for normal use (about 10-20 events per day). A base station is required to use the camera, but it's included in the Wyze Outdoor Cam Starter Bundle, so there are no additional products to buy. Up to four total cameras can be added to the base station, allowing you to outfit the exterior of your home with multiple cameras for less than the cost of one Arlo Pro 4, our No. 1 pick for outdoor security cameras. Wyze's outdoor camera delivers 1080p video and night vision that are easy on the eyes, as well as two-way talk functionality that's clear and easy to understand.
