Artificial Intelligence - Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology law

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a suite of technologies that are experiencing a renaissance moment. No longer merely a dream of computer scientists, AI is now widely deployed in a variety of applications. Our focus is "African AI" โ€“ AI that is developed in Africa and/or by African developers for use within the African context or primarily for African users. By researching AI tools, products, trends, policies, and impacts, we seek to contribute to the conversations that will help to positively steer the development and impact of AI. In particular, we seek to contribute to the definition and pursuit of responsible AI.

Can an AI be properly considered an inventor? โ€“ TechCrunch

That is, at least in the U.S., essentially still the case. However, there's been a significant volume of water that's passed under the policy and lawmaking bridge since then, so I wanted to revisit the question. First, let's back up a little. I have to admit that my reasoning in 2018 was narrow rather than broad. The work โ€“ and let's note that it doesn't have to be considered aesthetically "good" or have required a lot of skill โ€“ must simply be original (meaning that it was independently created and has at least a "modicum" of creativity) and an expression of some sort.

Artificial Intelligence's Role in the Field of Intellectual Property

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a digital frontier that will have a profound impact on the world. It will have immense technological, economic, and social consequences and will transform the way humans work, live, and produce and distribute goods and services. Although it is too early to say, it is clear that AI will affect traditional intellectual property (IP) concepts. Commercial AI-generated music and AI-created inventions are not so far, and it is expected that it will define the concepts of the'composer', 'author', and'inventor'. But how that will happen is not clear yet.

Artificial Intelligence and its challenges for Intellectual Property

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer or computer-controlled products to perform tasks that only intelligent beings are able to do. The most common use for this term is to categorize projects, systems, or products that are able to develop intellectual processes normally performed by humans, such as reasoning, analyzing, generalizing, learning from previous experiences, etc. Business analysts expect that the AI industry invade business processes around the world, estimating that the AI market will grow at an annual rate of 20%. In the past four years, there has been a 270% increase in organizations that have recently implemented AI products. Additionally, analysts estimate that 80% of emerging technologies will have an AI component. The recent disruption of this sector has also reached the intellectual property sector.

Should AI Robots Own Their Own Work? New Exhibition Explores Possibilities

Does the value of art come from the person who creates the art? Is that value inherent, or is it reliant on the beholder? How do you place a numeric valuation on something as subjective as art? All interesting questions, but let's throw a proverbial spanner in the works. What if the artist was an artificial intelligence (AI) programmed into a humanoid robot body?

China Wants to Lead the World on AI. What Does That Mean for America?

#artificialintelligence

Years ago, the thought of using software to fight a deadly pathogen might have seemed far-fetched. The Coronavirus pandemic has caused monumental shifts in the use and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) around the world. Of those now using AI to fight Coronavirus, none are more prominent than China. From software that diagnoses the symptoms of Coronavirus to algorithms that identify and compile data on individuals with high temperatures vis-ร -vis infrared cameras, China is showcasing the potential applications of AI. But Beijing is also demonstrating its willingness to leverage the technology to solve many of its problems.

How AI is disrupting the legal tech industry

#artificialintelligence

Although artificial intelligence (AI) has been around for decades, the industry has seen a recent resurgence. According to a report from PwC and CB Insights, AI investment in the US resulted in a 36 per cent compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2013 and 2018. This jump in AI spending was more pronounced in 2018, increasing 72 per cent from the year prior. As momentum grows, intelligent software is permeating a diverse range of industries. The pursuit of operational efficiency and resulting cost savings remain primary drivers of AI adoption.

Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Intellectual Property Policy: Call for Comments

#artificialintelligence

AI is increasingly driving important developments in technology and business and is being deployed across industry, from telecommunications to autonomous vehicles. Increasing stores of big data and advances in affordable high computing power are fueling AI's growth. The growth of AI across a range of technical fields raises a number of policy questions with respect to IP. WIPO held a Conversation on IP and AI on September 27, 2019, bringing together Member States and other stakeholders to discuss the impact of Al on IP policy, with a view to collectively formulating the questions that policymakers need to ask. At the conclusion of the meeting, WIPO Director General Francis Gurry announced that WIPO would commence an open process to develop a list of issues concerning the impact of Al on IP policy that might form the basis of future structured discussions.

Artificial Intelligence(AI) is actually the brand new digital frontier which will completely transform the way the we works and lives. At a fundamental amount of understanding, AI is the concept and development of computer devices which can carry out tasks that require human intelligence, for example visual perception, speech recognition as well as decision making. AI this term was first used in 1956 and since then half century, AI is developing gradually but no one had the idea about its extraordinary heap in the last one and a half decade. WIPO finds out that Machine Learning is the dominant AI technique as it covers 40% of all the patent inventions WIPO has studied. According to WIPO this industry is growing 28% every year since 2013.
