Apple's MM1 AI Model Shows a Sleeping Giant Is Waking Up
While the tech industry went gaga for generative artificial intelligence, one giant has held back: Apple. The company has yet to introduce so much as an AI-generated emoji, and according to a New York Times report today and earlier reporting from Bloomberg, it is in preliminary talks with Google about adding the search company's Gemini AI model to iPhones. Yet a research paper quietly posted online last Friday by Apple engineers suggests that the company is making significant new investments into AI that are already bearing fruit. It details the development of a new generative AI model called MM1 capable of working with text and images. The researchers show it answering questions about photos and displaying the kind of general knowledge skills shown by chatbots like ChatGPT.
Artificial Intelligence: Waking up to AI's sleep loss potential
Melbourne: Everyone sleeps, but we have few tools for measuring the sleep the world is getting at scale. AI and sleep could help us study global shocks in near-real time. It's not unusual to hear people complaining about tiredness multiple times a day, but why? Sleep is fundamental to human health, but because it's so private, there are few tools for measuring how much sleep everyone is getting at scale. Existing methods use time diaries, sleep surveys, sleep laboratories or, more recently, wearable technology to measure sleep. But none of these approaches is ready to tackle a global sleep-loss pandemic.
Artificial Intelligence In Enterprises - Businesses Are Waking Up
A few years ago I saw this headline news flashing all over the internet. Our dealers are missing up to $18 billion in easy sales. The Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar suggested that the company and its dealers were losing $9 - 18 billion in easy sales revenue as their sales, both internal and dealer networks, weren't monetising the real value of data. They are not tapping into the wealth of real-time customer data now at their fingertips; they are not communicating with each other; and they are not providing customers across the globe with a consistent experience when it comes to everything from e-commerce to parts and services pricing. Long story short, the whole idea was to convert the company's mentality from dumb iron sales to data-driven, machine learning-driven sales.

You know I have often wondered about the two different plans of existence we have here and one intruding on the other. It would not go over so well if one really did intrude upon the others territory/ dimension. We can talk about all we want to, but we can not cross over into it. And it will not cross over into where we are until time is up. Yet, if we make strides towards it and get somewhere in our striding we always get smacked down for it and smashed backwards.
