Why do cats lick you? An expert explains.
Why do cats lick you? Grooming is only one way cats say, I love you." Some cats shower their favorite humans with sandpaper kisses. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent six days a week. If you've ever been around a cat, you know they can get the sudden urge to groom themselves at just about any moment. Everything seems lovely and content. Then, they lose all interest in you and start licking their butt. A cat will be busy grooming themselves. Other cats can't be bothered and won't ever groom or lick their human friends, or other kitty friends for that matter. So, why do some cats lick their owners? Are they trying to clean you, too? We asked an animal behaviorist and cat expert to help us sort out exactly what is going on when your cat licks you. For a mother cat, grooming is an important part of child rearing. When a mama cat licks her kittens it serves two important purposes: keeping her kittens clean and promoting social bonds, Kristyn Vitale, an animal behaviorist at Maueyes Cat Science and Education tells . On the one hand, "mother cats are going to groom their kittens to help keep them clean and healthy," says Vitale. Kittens can be especially susceptible to diseases, and "anybody who's raised young kittens knows how dirty they can get, and a mother cat is not going to obviously bathe their kitten in a tub.
Scientists claim cats DO have facial expressions but most humans are really bad at reading them
Do you spend hours watching cat videos and wondering what they are thinking? A new study has revealed that cats'do have facial expressions' but many people struggle to interpret what they mean. You can tell a hissing cat is probably unhappy and a purring cat is in a good mood, but it's not been easy to tell the way a feline is feeling from the look on its face. Researchers in Canada asked more than 6,000 people from 85 countries to watch clips of cats and say whether their facial expressions were negative or positive. Cats have a reputation for being'hard to read' and animal behaviour experts from the University of Guelph say their study backs this reputation up.

Five ways AI will make your job easier
Companies are currently spending big on artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives to the tune of $12 billion, but estimates put that figure as high as $57.6 billion by 2021, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). With such massive shifts, the focus is usually on what we might lose, but it shouldn't be. A recent report on the future of work from the McKinsey Global Institute suggests that while only about 5% of jobs can be completely eliminated by automation, the rise of AI requires workers to beef up both technical and soft skills in order to stay competitive. What's seldom discussed is how AI can revolutionize our jobs. It's now possible to pinpoint peak productivity for a single day, improve communication in meetings (even before people ever work together face to face), or even teach you to be a better leader, all thanks to AI platforms.
