The Magic and Minstrelsy of Generative AI
It is the fabric of dreams and the substance of imagination. It lures the future, eternally on the horizon of our lives, within reach. On the social internet, fantasy is fact. It is where we work and idle. Fantasy is how we communicate, the surreality of memes, images, GIFs, and video our mother tongue, the language of this warped and warp-speed generation.
Can AI write an episode of Stargate? Google AI took on the challenge
We are excited to bring Transform 2022 back in-person July 19 and virtually July 20 โ 28. The process of writing a television show typically involves a writers room and a lot of time, as humans figure out the plot and the dialogue that makes a show work. For the cult classic Stargate science fiction franchise, which spanned three series (SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe), character and plot development was helmed by Stargate co-creator Brad Wright. In 2021, Wright publicly posted a message on Twitter asking if it was possible for AI to write an episode of Stargate that would appear on SciFi insider site The Companion. None other than Laurence Moroney, AI lead at Google, responded by picking up the gauntlet to try and prove what AI could do.โ

Galileo the Science Publicist - Issue 103: Healthy Communication
There's an old belief that truth will always overcome error. Alas, history tells us something different. Without someone to fight for it, to put error on the defensive, truth may languish. It may even be lost, at least for some time. No one understood this better than the renowned Italian scientist Galileo Galilei.
Training its multi-lingual voicebot in India, Vernacular.ai gears up to make inroads into US and multilingual countries like Indonesia & Malaysia
Amidst all the fast-paced technological innovations, contact centres continue to be at the frontline of delivering customer experience. "Even though businesses have identified different mechanisms to reach out to users such as mobile applications, notifications etc, users still reach out to the call center. Case in point, even when you are able to book a cab in under two minutes through the app, you will want to reach out to customer care if there is a problem," shares Sourabh Gupta, Co-Founder & CEO, Vernacular.ai, an AI-first SaaS business enhancing customer experience through intelligent voice conversations. However, Sourabh points out that innovation for contact centres has been overlooked and that's why today they are unable to offer the same convenience that the business provides digitally through other mediums. This gap has come to the fore amidst the pandemic.
10 Indian Startups That Are Leading The AI Race: 2020
The number of AI startups in India has increased tremendously over the years. Apart from being adopted in major industries, Artificial intelligence has become a way of doing business in other niche areas such as farming or even security. To recognise the unconventional startups in the AI space, Analytics India Magazine comes with a list of 10 such exceptional startups that are leading the AI race every year. In this year's list, we have covered startups that are not more than 3 to 4 years old and have headquarters in India. Most of these startups are funded externally and are working hard to bring about exceptional transformation in the Indian tech ecosystem.
HRI 2020 Keynote: Stephanie Dinkins
Community, craft, and the vernacular in artificially intelligent systems take the position that everyone participating in society is an expert in our experiences within the community infrastructures, which inform the makeup of robotic entities. Though we may not be familiar with the jargon used in specialized professional contexts, we share the vernacular of who we are as people and communities and the intimate sense that we are being learned. We understand that our data and collaboration is valuable, and our ability to successfully cooperate with the robotic systems proliferating around is well served by the creation of qualitatively informed systems that understand and perhaps even share the aims and values of the humans they work with. Using her art practice, which interrogates a humanoid robot and seeks to create culturally specific voice interactive entities as a case in point, Dinkins examines how interactions between humans and robots are reshaping human-robot and human-human relationships and interactions. She argues communities on the margins of tech production, code, and the institutions creating the future must work to upend, circumvent, or reinvent the algorithmic systems increasingly controlling the world, including robotics, that maintain us.
10 AI startups to watch out for in 2018
Doomsday conspiracies of the human race being ruled by robots aside, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay. From changing the job landscape, to becoming a buzzword for almost every company, AI is now an integral part of most organisations. Whether it is Google, Facebook, or even companies like Oracle, Microsoft and SAP, they are all working to design software that can learn, and make decisions โ in short, Artificial Intelligence. It isn't only private organisations that are keen on the technology, but government organisations like Niti Aayog are also looking closely at it. In fact, the Indian Government has allocated Rs 3,073 crore to spearhead work on fifth generation technology startups like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, and Blockchain.
AI programs are learning to exclude some African-American voices
If there aren't enough examples of a particular accent or vernacular, then these systems may simply fail to understand you (see "AI's Language Problem"). "If you analyze Twitter for people's opinions on a politician and you're not even considering what African-Americans are saying or young adults are saying, that seems problematic," O'Connor says. Solon Barocas, an assistant professor at Cornell and a cofounder of the event, says the field is growing, with more and more researchers exploring the issue of bias in AI systems. Shared Goel, an assistant professor at Stanford University who studies algorithmic fairness and public policy, says the issue is not always straightforward.
AI programs are learning to exclude some African-American voices
All too often people make snap judgments based on how you speak. Some AI systems are also learning to be prejudiced against some dialects. And as language-based AI systems become ever more common, some minorities may automatically be discriminated against by machines, warn researchers studying the issue. Anyone with a strong or unusual accent may know what it's like to have trouble being understood by Siri or Alexa. This is because voice-recognition systems use natural-language technology to parse the contents of speech, and it often relies on algorithms that have been trained with example data.
