Stranger Things: What could happen next as the show's finale looms? Spoiler warning: This contains some details about what has happened in the show so far, but does not reveal anything about the final four episodes. A Christmas feast may be around the corner, or perhaps another chocolate (no strawberry creams, thanks), but for fans of Stranger Things, another gift is waiting to be consumed. The grand finale of Netflix's hugely popular sci-fi fantasy horror series, which also showcases some questionable 80s fashion choices, is looming. Fans last saw the inhabitants of Hawkins in a perilous place as season five opened, with Demogorgons running rampant, along with the monstrous Vecna.

Using robotics to supercharge health care

#artificialintelligence

Since its founding in 1998, Vecna Technologies has developed a number of ways to help hospitals care for patients. The company has produced intake systems to respond to Covid-19 patient surges, prediction systems to manage health complications in maternity wards, and telepresence robots that have allowed sick people to stay connected with friends and loved ones. The differences among those products have also led to a number of transformations and spinoffs, including material handling company Vecna Robotics and the health care nonprofit VecnaCares. Vecna Technologies co-founders Deborah Noel Theobald '95 and Daniel Theobald '95, SM '98 say each of those pivots has been driven by a desire to build a robotics company that makes a positive impact on the world. "We knew we wanted to do robotics and do something good in the world," Deborah says of the team's mindset.

Helping ill kids attend school

FOX News

Robots are interacting with patients in medical facilities, handling material in warehouses, working in manufacturing, and helping ill children attend school--all with a hand from the Cloud. Indeed, by linking to the Cloud, robots are bringing homebound students into classrooms, hallways and cafeterias to socialize with their friends and continue learning--in school. "When you allow the student to actually be there, move around, go to classes and go to recess, you return a sense of control," said Daniel Theobald, chief innovation officer and co-founder of Vecna, a Massachusetts-based company that has created the VGo Robotic Telepresence. The VGo robot is essentially a virtual student who is present in the classroom and interacts in all the usual ways, even able to raise a hand (so to speak) to respond to questions in real time. But its creators hope you won't think of it as just a fancy Skype or FaceTime.
