Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claim they shot down another US drone as attacks intensify
The Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed on Tuesday they shot down an American drone over the impoverished Arab country. The U.S. military did not immediately acknowledge the claim. If confirmed, this would be the second MQ-9 Reaper drone downed by the Houthis over the past week as they press their campaign over the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip. Last Friday, the Houthis claimed downing an American drone over the province of Marib, hours after footage circulated online of what appeared to be the wreckage of an MQ-9 Reaper. And early Saturday, a vessel also came under attack in the Red Sea.

Yemen's Houthis claim attacks on Israeli, US ships
Yemen's Houthi rebels say they have targeted what they claim to be an Israeli cargo ship, the MSC Silver, in the Gulf of Aden near the entrance to the Red Sea with a number of missiles. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea did not elaborate, but in a statement on Tuesday said the group had also used drones to target a number of United States warships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea as well as sites in the southern Israeli resort town of Eilat. However, the British maritime security firm Ambrey said the container ship targeted by the Houthis on Tuesday was Liberia-flagged and headed for Somalia. The operator was publicly listed as [in] cooperation with ZIM and regularly called [at] Israeli ports," the Ambrey advisory note said. Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd, commonly known as ZIM, is a publicly held Israeli international cargo shipping company based in Israel.

Drone from Iran proxy evaded US defenses because it was mistaken for US drone: official
Former U.S. Navy SEAL Jonathan Gilliam joined'Fox & Friends First' to discuss what he sees as the'common denominator' to the Biden administration's response to attacks in the Middle East and how it will serve as a'litmus test' in 2024. A U.S. official confirmed to Fox News the drone from an Iranian proxy that killed 3 American service members in Jordan and injured others got past the air defenses for Tower 22 because it was mistaken for a U.S. drone expected to return to the base at the same time. The Wall Street Journal initially reported on this development on Monday. A U.S. official confirmed the information to Fox News. President Biden has vowed to take action against Iranian-backed militants in the Middle East after the drone attack at Tower 22, a post in Jordan near Syria's border, over the weekend.

The United States military says it has killed a leader of the ISIL (ISIS) group in eastern Syria in a drone strike. The strike on Friday resulted in the death of Osama al-Muhajer, the US Central Command said in a statement on Sunday. "We have made it clear that we remain committed to the defeat of ISIS throughout the region," US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General Michael Kurilla said, using another acronym for the ISIL armed group. "ISIS remains a threat, not only to the region but well beyond," he added. According to CENTCOM, no civilians were killed in the operation but coalition forces are "assessing reports of a civilian injury".

GOP senators push for hearings after Russia downs US drone
Rep. Nick LaLota, R-N.Y., reacts to new video showing a Russian jet hitting a U.S. drone and weighs in on the border crisis. EXCLUSIVE: Several Republican senators are calling on Congress to exercise its oversight authority after a Russian fighter jet downed a U.S. drone over international waters earlier this week – an incident that has many worried about more direct conflict between the two superpowers as the Ukraine war enters its second year. "We need a hearing on it. We've asked the Pentagon for hearing, of course, they're probably a little bit busy right now," Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., a member of the Armed Services Committee, told Fox News Digital this week. When asked if he was concerned about Russian officials' announcement that Moscow will try to retrieve the debris, Tuberville said, "Yeah, we should all be."

Pentagon says its 'highly unlikely' Russia will find anything useful if it recovers US drone from Black Sea
It is "highly unlikely" Russia will find anything useful if it manages to recover a U.S. surveillance drone from the deep waters of the Black Sea where it crashed earlier this week after colliding with a Russian fighter jet, the Pentagon said Thursday. Gen. Pat Ryder comes amid reports that Russia was making an effort to recover the MQ-9 Reaper drone's debris. Ryder reiterated Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley's assertion that no sensitive material was compromised in the drone incident. "We do have indications that Russia's likely making an effort to try to recovery MQ-9 debris," Ryder said. "However, we assess it's very unlikely that they would be able to recovery anything useful, given a couple of factors."

NATO mum in wake of Russia downing US drone; 'time to show steely resolve' says expert
Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker says the Russian fighter jet collision was'intentional' and requires a'firm response' from the U.S. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has yet to comment publicly on the downing of a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone by two Russian SU-27 fighter jets this week, in what one NATO expert says may be an "overabundance of caution." "There should be broad condemnation of Russia's attack on the U.S. drone by all NATO Allies," Marshall Billingslea, a former deputy undersecretary of the Navy and assistant secretary general for defense investment at NATO, who is now serving as a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, told Fox News Digital. "Many, especially those allies on the eastern front, have experience with Russian pilots engaging in aggressive and unprofessional actions." NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg speaks during the annual Society and Defence Conference in Salen, Sweden, on Jan. 8, 2023. The U.S. has accused Russia of purposefully harassing and then striking down the $32 million drone used for intelligence collecting.

Gen. Mark Milley 'not sure yet' if Russian fighter jet's collision with US drone was 'intentional'
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said during a briefing on Wednesday that the collision of a Russian jet with a U.S. drone follows a "pattern" of unsafe and risky behavior from Russia. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said during a briefing on Wednesday that America doesn't seek "armed conflict" with Russia after the collision of a Russian jet and a U.S. drone On Tuesday, a Russian Su-27 fighter plane collided with a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone while traveling over the Black Sea, a U.S. defense official told Fox News. The collision occurred in international airspace while over international waters, with the jet in question being one of two Su-27s flying in tandem. The drone's propeller was damaged, forcing it to be ditched in the Black Sea west of Crimea, the defense official said. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin described the incident as a continuation of risky behavior from Russia during Tuesday's press briefing.
