Drone after the Terminator demonstrates warfare abilities by dropping a torpedo from mid-air
A drone called the T-600 - named after the Terminator - successfully launched a torpedo from the sky. BAE Systems demonstrated the feat during a NATO training exercise, which saw a human controller fly the quadcopter strapped with the torpedo from a dock and over the ocean, where it let the weapon drop. The electric-powered, car-sized T-600 has a payload capacity of 441 pounds, tops speeds of 87 miles per hour and has a range of up to 50 miles. The demonstration aimed to showcase the anti-submarine warfare capabilities of the T-600 and its potential for automated logistics, resupply, casualty and evacuation. The T-600 is the AI-powered machine that takes over the world in the iconic Terminator series and features a combat endoskeleton made of titanium alloy, sometimes covered in synthetic latex.
Trump Could Torpedo a Bill to Boost Funding for AI
Over a tumultuous four years, the Trump administration has steadily emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence to American competitiveness. Now President Trump must decide whether to veto what would be the government's biggest-ever funding and strategy boost to AI. The National Defense Authorization Act would provide $6.4 billion in federal money over five years for research on AI and its applications, and it would push Washington toward developing a national strategy on the technology. The bill, approved by both houses of Congress, would increase federal AI spending with $4.8 billion for the National Science Foundation, $1.2 billion via the Energy Department, and $400 million for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Martijn Rasser, a senior fellow of the Technology and National Security Program at the Center for New American Security, a strategy think tank in Washington, DC, says the funding is significant.

US Navy reveals plans for radical long range stealth 'supertorpedo'
The US Navy is planning a major upgrade to its most commonly used torpedo. Military bosses are hoping to build a new'advanced capabilities' version of the submarine launched Mk48 with longer range and improved stealth capabilities. This will boost is ability to destroy enemy ships, submarines and small boats, especially in shallow water, they hope. The new version will be known as the Mk 48 (advanced capability) torpedo, and it is hoped it will feature an array of new technologies including improved sonar, stealth and control systems. Navy weapons developers are looking for a high-tech, longer range and more lethal submarine-launched heavyweight for use in US submarines.

Paul Allen reconstructs how doomed battleship sank
Deep sea explorers sent a drone to the ocean floor to beam back stunning images of the USS Indianapolis, a naval gunship that lies three miles beneath the surface of the Philippine Sea 72 years ago, in a dramatic live broadcast on Wednesday. Findings from the footage enabled experts to piece together the final moments of the WWII ship, which was discovered by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen last month. The ship was sunk by a Japanese torpedo in the final days of World War Two, more than 18,000 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, the Navy said. From the new drone footage, researchers have concluded that two Japanese torpedoes hit the ship, one of them striking an area near a chamber with crew members that likely would have died immediately upon impact. Researchers also discovered guns, torpedo remnants and parts of aircraft that were preserved thanks to the extremely cold temperatures at the bottom of the sea.

Unmanned Boat Fires Torpedo In Apparent First
The Seagull is an unmanned vehicle. The torpedo is a torpedo. A robotic ship fired a torpedo into the ocean without any humans aboard. Naval battles, for so long the domain of sailors fighting each other and the elements all at once, can now be in part delegated to machines. The vessel responsible is the Seagull Unmanned Surface Vessel, made by Israel's Elbit Systems.
