Welcome to robot city
That began to change with the partnership between the shipyard and the university. In the '90s, that relationship got a big boost when the foundation behind the Mærsk shipping company funded the creation of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute (MMMI), a center dedicated to studying autonomous systems. The Lindø shipyard eventually wound down its robotics program, but research continued at the MMMI. Students flocked to the institute to study robotics. And it was there that three researchers had the idea for a more lightweight, flexible, and easy-to-use industrial robot arm. That idea would become a startup called Universal Robots, Odense's first big robotics success story.
7 Robotics Stocks to Buy Before the "Nearshoring" Trend Takes Off in the U.S.
Investors looking for the best robotics stocks to buy have a lot of things to consider. In response to the global pandemic, supply-chain bottlenecks, trade issues, and geopolitical tensions, most U.S.-based businesses are looking to relocate production closer to their domestic facilities. The nearshoring trend is already taking off, and robotics is expected to be a critical piece of the puzzle. Hence, robotics stocks should take off in a big way in the future. Swiss Tech Leader ABB recently revealed the results of a survey showing how more than 60% of the U.S. and European respondents are exploring reshoring and nearshoring operations to build resilience amidst global challenges.

The ability for marketers to gauge intent these days is spooky. Performing a simple Google search for "hotels in Angeles City" while sitting in a cafe in Manila will suddenly surface "cheapest transport from Manila to Angeles City" ads in your Facebook stream. It knows you'll need cheap transport to get there so you can spend your money on other things. What you may find even more surprising is when you're talking to a mate on the phone about the carnal pleasures of Angeles City and suddenly STD test ads start appearing in your Twitter feed. Is your phone really listening to what you're saying?

Cobots: The PCs Of The Robot Era
The market for cobots is emerging as a fast-growing segment of the rapidly growing industrial robotics market. Demand for cobots is expected to rise at a CAGR of more than 50 percent over the next decade. Although there are some reasons to assume that the acceptance and implementation of cobots will slow growth somewhat, it is clear that the cobot market is rapidly expanding and the number of use cases will continue to rise. The steadily falling prices of components such as sensors make cobots accessible for SMEs. All markets are expected to see growth rates above 50 percent CAGR, but in a regional sense, expectations are especially high for China, because it still lags in the use of robots, when compared to countries like South Korea, Japan, the US, and Germany.

Teradyne acquires MiR for $272M, continues robotics spree
In a surprise but smart move, Teradyne (NYSE:TER), the American test solutions provider that acquired Universal Robots in 2015 and Energid Technologies earlier in 2018, acquired Danish MiR (Mobile Industrial Robots) for $148 million with an additional $124 million predicated on very achievable milestones between now and 2020. MiR was just returning from celebrating its 300% growth in 2017 at a company get-together in Barcelona with 70 MiR employees from all over the world when the announcement was made. It tripled its revenue from autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in 2017. MiR co-founder and CEO Thomas Visti said that growth in 2017 was primarily due to multinational companies that returned with orders for larger fleets of mobile robots after it tested and analyzed the results of its initial MiR robot orders. Another factor in MiR's 2017 growth was the launch of the MiR200 which can lift 440 pounds, pull 1,100 pounds, is ESD approved and cleanroom certified.
