Two-stage Incomplete Utterance Rewriting on Editing Operation

Previous work on Incomplete Utterance Rewriting (IUR) has primarily focused on generating rewritten utterances based solely on dialogue context, ignoring the widespread phenomenon of coreference and ellipsis in dialogues. To address this issue, we propose a novel framework called TEO (\emph{Two-stage approach on Editing Operation}) for IUR, in which the first stage generates editing operations and the second stage rewrites incomplete utterances utilizing the generated editing operations and the dialogue context. Furthermore, an adversarial perturbation strategy is proposed to mitigate cascading errors and exposure bias caused by the inconsistency between training and inference in the second stage. Experimental results on three IUR datasets show that our TEO outperforms the SOTA models significantly.

The future of labour cannot involve protecting workers against disruption at the expense of new business models, Second Minister for Manpower and Home Affairs Josephine Teo said yesterday. Businesses and governments must work together to allay workers' concerns and make sure employees are able to take up the new jobs that will be created from automation and digitisation. "The catch is that the prospect of a net addition of jobs is comforting only to the extent that the workers involved can find ways to access the new opportunities," she said. "Otherwise, it is a frightening thought, and you could have a very unhappy situation where unemployment is rising and yet, at the same time, businesses are growing below potential." Mrs Teo, who is alsoMinister in the Prime Minister's Office, was speaking at the conclusion of the Milken Institute Asia Summit as part of a panel on preparing for jobs some two decades down the road.

With artificial intelligence advancing at break-neck speed, it is only a matter of time before robots start taking over jobs. But it seems that androids may well take our household chores too, as scientists have developed a robot that can neatly iron clothes. The TEO robot, which uses a camera in its head to create a 3D model of the garment and board, weighs 80 kilograms (175 lbs) and stands 1.8 metres tall (6 ft). In March, a robot that can lay bricks six times faster than a builder started work on a building site in the US. The Semi-Automated Mason, nicknamed Sam, can lay 3,000 bricks a day, while a builder's average is 500.

If we're lucky, robots might steal our chores before they steal our jobs. Next on the list could be ironing, now that a humanoid robot has mastered the art of getting rid of creases. The robot, called TEO, is 1.8 metres tall and weighs about 80 kilograms. Since it came into being at the Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain, in 2012, TEO has learned to climb stairs and open doors. Now full-on domestication seems within its reach.


Robots Compete in Piano Recital Competition in South Korea

With machines running up a series of victories against their human competitors, it almost seems like they're capable of beating humans in every aspect of life. But could they trounce us even when it comes to emotions? A special piano competition between man and machine took place Monday at Seongnam Arts Center. The performers were Italian pianist Roberto Prosseda, and a robot-pianist called Teo Tronico. Both played the same piece of music in their own style, and then assessed each other in the form of a talk show.
