According to the data, the percent of women who underwent screening for cervical cancer, breast and oral cancer in Telangana in the year 2020 was 3.3 percent, 0.3 percent and 2.3 percent respectively. Although early detection is the only way to reduce morbidity and mortality, people have very low awareness about cervical and breast cancer signs and symptoms and screening practices. We developed an ML classification model to predict if a person is susceptible to breast or cervical cancer based on demographic factors. We devised a system to provide suggestions for the nearest hospital or Cancer treatment centres based on the users location or address. In addition to this, we can integrate the health card to maintain medical records of all individuals and conduct awareness drives and campaigns. For ML classification models, we used decision tree classification and support vector classification algorithms for cervical cancer susceptibility and breast cancer susceptibility respectively. Thus, by devising this solution we come one step closer to our goal which is spreading cancer awareness, thereby, decreasing the cancer mortality and increasing cancer literacy among the people of Telangana.

The 67-year-old widow and 12 members of her family live in a cramped three-room house in an urban slum in Hyderabad, the capital of the Indian state of Telangana. Since her rickshaw puller husband's death two years ago of mouth cancer, Bee makes a living by peeling garlic for a local business. But an algorithmic system, which the Telangana government deploys to digitally profile its more than 30 million residents, tagged Bee's husband as a car owner in 2021, when he was still alive.

Hyderabad: Students of intermediate can learn the nitty-gritty of emerging technologies from the next academic year. The Department of Intermediate Education has proposed introducing six new vocational courses out of which three are in the computer science stream and three in the electronics stream. The courses proposed under the computer science stream are Cyber Physical Systems & Security, Cloud Computing & Big Data Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Under the electronics stream, Electronics and Video Engineering Technician, Bio-Medical Engineering Technician and Embedded System Technician courses have been planned as part of intermediate vocational education from the academic year 2022-23. Towards this, the department has sent a proposal to the State government seeking a nod.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can unlock huge opportunities for both enterprises and governments, but AI needs to be deployed at large scale for the same. According to Rama Devi Lanka, director, Emerging Technologies and officer on special duty at ITE&C, Government of Telangana, the government is looking to deploy AI at the same scale as India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI). "If you look at the unified payments interface (UPI), that is the scale at which we are looking to deploy AI," she added. Speaking at the Mint AI Summit on April 29, Lanka said that Telangana has identified agriculture, healthcare, education, transportation, smart cities, and climate change as some of the focus areas for AI implementation. However, she noted that the lack of availability of data can be a problem.

NITI Aayog, the policy think tank of the Government of India, is looking at expanding its "Medicines from the Sky" project, which uses unmanned aerial systems for the delivery of vaccines in remote areas, to the North-Eastern parts of the country. It is also exploring use of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) in medical diagnostics. NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Government of Telangana and the World Economic Forum (WEF), launched the'Medicines from the Sky' project on piloting the use of unmanned aerial systems for the delivery of vaccines in remote areas. These drone trials are focused on laying the groundwork for a drone delivery network that will improve access to vital healthcare supplies for remote and vulnerable communities. The scope includes deliveries of MMR (maternal mortality rate), flu and C-19 vaccines.

Hyderabad: Select Government school complexes (a cluster of high school, middle and primary schools) in the State may soon get to use some artificial intelligence based tools that will automate a few of the time and resources consuming processes like formative assessments, marking attendance, logging mid-day meals data among others. They will even be put to use to teach English and later other languages too. These artificial intelligence-based tools will be implemented in select school complexes in Moinabad as a pilot project through the Prof Raj Centre at IIIT-H, which is working to create artificial technologies and technology solutions for the grassroots. A team from the IIIT-H had initial meetings with select school complex head masters, resource persons and officials of the Education Department to understand problems at the grass-root level. "We plan to meet the concerned people once again and make specific plans for the technology interventions possible. We want to keep the technologies ready for the coming academic year. These will be short term projects of three to six months that aim to address the issues at the earliest," said Ramesh Loganathan, Co-Innvation Professor at IIIT-H.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Friday said it will set up centres for transformational artificial intelligence (AI) that will collaborate with academia and industry to develop AI-based solutions. Addressing a virtual'AI India Conclave', organised by FICCIi jointly with MeitY, Abhishek Singh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Digital India Corporation (DIC), President and CEO, National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and, CEO, MyGov, MeitY, said that AI skilling and reskilling and its role in employment generation is important and highlighted the various initiatives launched by the government pertaining to AI. "To foster a robust AI ecosystem in India, the government's role is to enable a data governance mechanism via open data portals, with adequate safeguards for privacy to enable innovation by researchers and entrepreneurs to build upon and create products for better services," he said. A lot of AI research is being done in all academic institutions, but still the country lags far behind China and the US when it comes to AI research, he said, adding that'there are certain initiatives that have been taken but we need to go further'. Singh said the Department of Science and Technology too has set up Technology Innovation Hubs under National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems. "But under the national programme on AI what is being thought of is that the India centres for transformational AI will be set up. These centres will be set up in partnership with the industry and academia. The solution which is developed from the exercise will be assessed for scaling up across the country," Singh added.
