18. Peter Scott On Challenges and Opportunities with AI - The AI with Maribel Lopez (AI with ML)

#artificialintelligence

Peter Scott (AI leader and author of Artificial Intelligence and You) is an expert on all things AI, Peter Scott is on a mission to help us to get along with artificial intelligence. He has given TEDx talks, spoken to audiences as diverse as transformational leaders, executives, and British parliamentarians, and created a program to train coaches in helping clients become resilient to exponential disruption. A Master's degree in computer science from Cambridge University led him to spend more than thirty years working for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, helping advance our exploration of space. A parallel pursuit of the human development field as a certified coach positioned him to recognize and address technological disruption. The births of his children brought him into a mission, to help people understand, use, and advance AI for the betterment of all.

Three Existential Threats to the World Order

#artificialintelligence

The world's countries should pay attention to the ocean ecosystem collapse to prevent ecological catastrophe. Technological Disruption is a continuing unannounced world war. The A.I. and Quantum Computing capabilities are the two major branches. Since 1951, A.I. applications have been operating on the University of Manchester's Ferranti Mark 1 computer. The main issue has been a lack of processing capacity to execute and calculate increasingly complicated lines of A.I. algorithms in a shorter amount of time.

Artificial Intelligence, Automation and the End of Western Thought

#artificialintelligence

This blog post is a summary and analysis of the speech given by Yuval Harari at Davos in January 2020. "The automation revolution is not a watershed that settles down again but a cascade of bigger and bigger disruptions." When Yuval Harari speaks, people tend to listen. Not least when it comes to the impact of artificial intelligence and automation on every walk of life from politics to biology, government and education. His position is wide-ranging but boils down to a few essential arguments.

Top trends that will shape the insurance sector in the next decade

#artificialintelligence

DURBAN - Across the globe, trends in technology, economics and socioeconomics are culminating to disrupt the way entire industries operate and deliver products and services to consumers. When it comes to the impact of technology, there is no industry riper for disruption than the financial services sector, including insurance, which for the longest time remained trapped in outdated product development and delivery models. That has changed, and today we're seeing the pace of change and meaningful innovation in the insurance sector escalating. Not only is the existing insurance model from advice, underwriting, onboarding, risk management, servicing, and claims processing being turned on its head, but new product solutions are now possible for market sectors that have been entirely underserved and marginalised by the formal economy. Until now, most innovation in the insurance sector has been internally focused with little direct value to the customer.

Moreover, SMBs are failing to adopt chatbots, artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) marketing into their business strategies -- despite consumer expectations. The Capterra report identified the following three areas that SMBs are struggling to get to grips with.

Hackable humans and digital dictators: Q&A with Yuval Noah Harari

Al Jazeera

Yuval Noah Harari was catapulted into the international literary spotlight in 2014 following the English translation of his book Sapiens. The book, which covers the history of humanity from the discovery of fire to modern robotics, became a non-fiction publishing phenomenon, feted by then-US President Barack Obama and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and went on to sell more than eight million copies worldwide. In his next book, Homo Deus, the Israeli historian and author explored how the growth of big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology could radically alter and divide human society, perhaps ending the species altogether. The same themes crop up again in his latest work, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, which collects essays, talks and responses to his readers in a series of observations on everything from meditation to climate change. In an interview with the Talk to Al Jazeera programme, Harari discussed technology, immigration and politics with Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett in Tel Aviv. Editor's note: This interview has been edited for clarity and brevity.

Coursera's Andrew Ng dreams of AI powered local solutions

#artificialintelligence

Andrew Yan-Tak Ng, regarded as one of the world's foremost experts on Artificial Intelligence (AI), firmly believes that despite the widespread mistrust of AI, it is good for governments, companies and individuals. In a phone interview from the Coursera headquarters in Mountain View, California, Ng spoke about the need for the Indian government to invest in education. He also shared his perspective on the potential of AI and the fears surrounding it. We would like you to propose one big idea to mark India's Independence Day.

A new fiscal policy for a world of accelerated change and artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

In the decade since the Great Recession, governments have used fiscal policy to prop up flagging domestic demand. This response has been considered appropriate because the shock was seen as temporary. But this attention to demand-side weaknesses may have distracted governments from attending to supply-side gaps that have been widening with the acceleration of technological change and artificial intelligence. Policymakers should start paying more attention to what's called structural fiscal policies, that is, changes in both public spending and tax collection to aid the expansion of the productive potential of economies. As laborsaving technologies flood the market, delays in doing this could mean that workers pay a stiff price, while consumers do not realize many of the benefits.
