Reddit's human content wins amid the AI flood
Reddit's human content wins amid the AI flood For Ines Tan there's one particular site she turns to again and again for advice - and that's Reddit. Tan, who works in communications, regularly jumps on the site for skincare advice, to view reactions to shows she watches, such as The Traitors, and for help planning her upcoming wedding in May. It's a very empathetic place, she says of Reddit. For my wedding, I've found help emotionally, logistically and inspiration-wise. Tan believes people are consulting the online discussion platform more as they're craving human interaction in the world of increasing AI slop.

Trump's Investment in Intel Is Paying Off
Trump's Investment in Intel Is Paying Off The chipmaker reported higher than expected revenue on Thursday, and its stock price has risen over 90 percent since August. The Trump administration's investment in Intel appears to be paying off so far, but the once-mighty chipmaker still has a long way to climb back to industry dominance. In August, the US government announced it was converting about $9 billion in federal grants that Intel had been issued during the Biden administration into a roughly 10 percent equity stake in the company. During its third-quarter earnings on Thursday--its first financial update since Trump's surprise investment--Intel reported that it earned $13.7 billion in revenue over the past three months, a three percent increase year-over-year. It's the fourth consecutive quarter that Intel has beat revenue guidance.

Motion Planning and Control of an Overactuated 4-Wheel Drive with Constrained Independent Steering
Liu, Shiyu, Hadzic, Ilija, Gupta, Akshay, Arab, Aliasghar
This paper addresses motion planning and con- trol of an overactuated 4-wheel drive train with independent steering (4WIS) where mechanical constraints prevent the wheels from executing full 360-degree rotations (swerve). The configuration space of such a robot is constrained and contains discontinuities that affect the smoothness of the robot motion. We introduce a mathematical formulation of the steering constraints and derive discontinuity planes that partition the velocity space into regions of smooth and efficient motion. We further design the motion planner for path tracking and ob- stacle avoidance that explicitly accounts for swerve constraints and the velocity transition smoothness. The motion controller uses local feedback to generate actuation from the desired velocity, while properly handling the discontinuity crossing by temporarily stopping the motion and repositioning the wheels. We implement the proposed motion planner as an extension to ROS Navigation package and evaluate the system in simulation and on a physical robot.

Trump calls on CEO of tech firm Intel to resign over China investments
United States President Donald Trump has fired off a social media message calling on the head of the US technology firm Intel to resign from his post as chief executive officer. Trump's decision to denounce Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan on Thursday morning sent the company's stocks tumbling, amid the uncertainty about the future of its leadership. "The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately," Trump wrote. "There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!" Trump's post appeared to be a response to reports that Tan has invested nearly 200m in Chinese technology manufacturing and chip firms, including some with links to the country's military.

Intel confirms layoffs as it tries to 'make engineers more productive'
Beleaguered chipmaker Intel has confirmed plans to restructure in a shift that will involve an unspecified number of layoffs. It was reported this week that the company could lay off around 20 percent of staff (it had 108,900 employees at the end of last year). In a memo, new CEO Lip-Bu Tan declined to detail the extent of the downsizing, which is largely aimed at reducing "unnecessary bureaucracy" and layers of middle management. "I'm a big believer in the philosophy that the best leaders get the most done with the fewest people. We will embrace this mindset across the company, which will include empowering our top talent to make decisions and take greater ownership of key priorities," Tan wrote.
