While a drone superhighway might sound better suited to a science-fiction blockbuster than the Midlands, it's set to become a reality this summer. The world's first drone superhighway will open in the UK between June and early July, allowing pilotless drones to make high-speed deliveries across the country. Developed by drone software provider Altitude Angel, the 165-mile-long Skyway network will connect Coventry in the Midlands to Milton Keynes in the Southeast. However, sceptics have warned that the drone highway'inevitably poses risk' for the privacy and safety of Britons living in its flight path. Speaking to MailOnline, Chris Cole, director of campaign group Drone Wars, said: 'While the drone industry are incredibly happy about this, for people who end up living under the drones it may well end up being super annoying and super intrusive.'

While a'drone superhighway' may sound like the stuff of science fiction, the green light has been given for one to be developed in the UK. The 165 mile (265 km) long superhighway network, dubbed Project Skyway, has today been given the go-ahead from the government. It will involve a number of ground-based sensors being installed which will guide the connected drones safely through'corridors' to their destinations. The network will connect airspace above cities including Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Coventry, and Rugby. The plans were proposed by a consortium led by software provider Altitude Angel alongside BT.

The idea of a drone superhighway may sound like a concept from the latest science fiction blockbuster. But it could soon become a reality in England, with the submission of plans to build a network across the Midlands and the Southeast. A consortium led by software provider Altitude Angel has submitted plans for a 165-mile-long superhighway network dubbed Project Skyway, connecting airspace above cities including Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Coventry, and Rugby. If approved, the network could potentially then be extended to Southampton on the south coast and Ipswich on the east coast. The group hopes the superhighway will'unlock the huge potential offered by unmanned aerial vehicles,' with a decision from the government on whether to green light the project expected in the coming weeks.

Cross-domain collaborative filtering (CF) aims to alleviate data sparsity in single-domain CF by leveraging knowledge transferred from related domains. Many traditional methods focus on enriching compared neighborhood relations in CF directly to address the sparsity problem. In this paper, we propose superhighway construction, an alternative explicit relation-enrichment procedure, to improve recommendations by enhancing cross-domain connectivity. Specifically, assuming partially overlapped items (users), superhighway bypasses multi-hop inter-domain paths between cross-domain users (items, respectively) with direct paths to enrich the cross-domain connectivity. The experiments conducted on a real-world cross-region music dataset and a cross-platform movie dataset show that the proposed superhighway construction significantly improves recommendation performance in both target and source domains.
