Voxel Mamba: Group-Free State Space Models for Point Cloud based 3D Object Detection
Serialization-based methods, which serialize the 3D voxels and group them into multiple sequences before inputting to Transformers, have demonstrated their effectiveness in 3D object detection. However, serializing 3D voxels into 1D sequences will inevitably sacrifice the voxel spatial proximity. Such an issue is hard to be addressed by enlarging the group size with existing serialization-based methods due to the quadratic complexity of Transformers with feature sizes. Inspired by the recent advances of state space models (SSMs), we present a Voxel SSM, termed as Voxel Mamba, which employs a group-free strategy to serialize the whole space of voxels into a single sequence. The linear complexity of SSMs encourages our group-free design, alleviating the loss of spatial proximity of voxels. To further enhance the spatial proximity, we propose a Dual-scale SSM Block to establish a hierarchical structure, enabling a larger receptive field in the 1D serialization curve, as well as more complete local regions in 3D space. Moreover, we implicitly apply window partition under the group-free framework by positional encoding, which further enhances spatial proximity by encoding voxel positional information. Our experiments on Waymo Open Dataset and nuScenes dataset show that Voxel Mamba not only achieves higher accuracy than state-of-the-art methods, but also demonstrates significant advantages in computational efficiency.
AskNearby: An LLM-Based Application for Neighborhood Information Retrieval and Personalized Cognitive-Map Recommendations

The "15-minute city" envisions neighborhoods where residents can meet daily needs via a short walk or bike ride. Realizing this vision requires not only physical proximity but also efficient and reliable access to information about nearby places, services, and events. Existing location-based systems, however, focus mainly on city-level tasks and neglect the spatial, temporal, and cognitive factors that shape localized decision-making. We conceptualize this gap as the Local Life Information Accessibility (LLIA) problem and introduce AskNearby, an AI-driven community application that unifies retrieval and recommendation within the 15-minute life circle. AskNearby integrates (i) a three-layer Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline that synergizes graph-based, semantic-vector, and geographic retrieval with (ii) a cognitive-map model that encodes each user's neighborhood familiarity and preferences. Experiments on real-world community datasets demonstrate that AskNearby significantly outperforms LLM-based and map-based baselines in retrieval accuracy and recommendation quality, achieving robust performance in spatiotemporal grounding and cognitive-aware ranking. Real-world deployments further validate its effectiveness. By addressing the LLIA challenge, AskNearby empowers residents to more effectively discover local resources, plan daily activities, and engage in community life.

Spatial Coordinates as a Cell Language: A Multi-Sentence Framework for Imaging Mass Cytometry Analysis

Image mass cytometry (IMC) enables high-dimensional spatial profiling by combining mass cytometry's analytical power with spatial distributions of cell phenotypes. Recent studies leverage large language models (LLMs) to extract cell states by translating gene or protein expression into biological context. However, existing single-cell LLMs face two major challenges: (1) Integration of spatial information: they struggle to generalize spatial coordinates and effectively encode spatial context as text, and (2) Treating each cell independently: they overlook cell-cell interactions, limiting their ability to capture biological relationships. To address these limitations, we propose Spatial2Sentence, a novel framework that integrates single-cell expression and spatial information into natural language using a multi-sentence approach. Spatial2Sentence constructs expression similarity and distance matrices, pairing spatially adjacent and expressionally similar cells as positive pairs while using distant and dissimilar cells as negatives. These multi-sentence representations enable LLMs to learn cellular interactions in both expression and spatial contexts. Equipped with multi-task learning, Spatial2Sentence outperforms existing single-cell LLMs on preprocessed IMC datasets, improving cell-type classification by 5.98% and clinical status prediction by 4.18% on the diabetes dataset while enhancing interpretability. Towards Operationalizing Social Bonding in Human-Robot Dyads
With momentum increasing in the use of social robots as long-term assistive and collaborative partners, humans developing social bonds with these artificial agents appears to be inevitable. In human-human dyads, social bonding plays a powerful role in regulating behaviours, emotions, and even health. If this is to extend to human-robot dyads, the phenomenology of such relationships (including their emergence and stability) must be better understood. In this paper, we discuss potential approaches towards operationalizing the phenomenon of social bonding between human-robot dyads. We will discuss a number of biobehavioural proxies of social bonding, moving away from existing approaches that use subjective, psychological measures, and instead grounding our approach in some of the evolutionary, neurobiological and physiological correlates of social bond formation in natural systems: (a) reductions in physiological stress (the ''social buffering'' phenomenon), (b) narrowing of spatial proximity between dyads, and (c) inter-dyad behavioural synchrony. We provide relevant evolutionary support for each proposed component, with suggestions and considerations for how they can be recorded in (real-time) human-robot interaction scenarios. With this, we aim to inspire more robust operationalisation of ''social bonding'' between human and artificial (robotic) agents.
Efficient Learning of Mesh-Based Physical Simulation with BSMS-GNN

Learning the physical simulation on large-scale meshes with flat Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and stacking Message Passings (MPs) is challenging due to the scaling complexity w.r.t. the number of nodes and over-smoothing. There has been growing interest in the community to introduce \textit{multi-scale} structures to GNNs for physical simulation. However, current state-of-the-art methods are limited by their reliance on the labor-intensive drawing of coarser meshes or building coarser levels based on spatial proximity, which can introduce wrong edges across geometry boundaries. Inspired by the bipartite graph determination, we propose a novel pooling strategy, \textit{bi-stride} to tackle the aforementioned limitations. Bi-stride pools nodes on every other frontier of the breadth-first search (BFS), without the need for the manual drawing of coarser meshes and avoiding the wrong edges by spatial proximity. Additionally, it enables a one-MP scheme per level and non-parametrized pooling and unpooling by interpolations, resembling U-Nets, which significantly reduces computational costs. Experiments show that the proposed framework, \textit{BSMS-GNN}, significantly outperforms existing methods in terms of both accuracy and computational efficiency in representative physical simulations.
