Computer-generated inclusivity: fashion turns to 'diverse' AI models
The star of Levi's new campaign looks like any other model . Her tousled hair hangs over her shouldersas she gazes into the camera with that far-off high-fashion stare. But look closer, and something starts to seem a little off. The shadow between her chin and neck looks muddled, like a bad attempt at using FaceTune's eraser effect to hide a double chin. Her French manicured fingernails appear scrubbed clean and uniform in a creepy real doll kind of way.
Three AI And Tech Trends That Will Transform The Fashion Industry
However, designers and brands that embrace the latest technology to push the limits of design, manufacturing, and production will come out on top in the fast-changing world of fashion. Here are a few of the biggest tech trends that are transforming the fashion industry. Fashion brands are reshaping their approach to product design and development by predicting what customers will want to wear next. Trend forecasting is typically labor-intensive, involving manual or digital observation and data collection from fashion designers and influencers. By harnessing data directly from users, brands like Finery and StitchFix can have fast, easy access to information that helps them plan the styles people will love and know what quantities to manufacture.

I Am a Model and I Know That Artificial Intelligence Will Eventually Take My Job
Shudu Gram is a striking South African model. She's what fashion likes to call "one to watch," with a Balmain campaign in 2018, a feature in Vogue Australia on changing the face of fashion, and a red carpet appearance at the 2019 BAFTAs in a custom Swarovski gown. I'm from Canada, although I live in New York City now. Unlike Shudu, who's considered a "new face," I've been in the business for almost five years. I am also a futurist; I spend a lot of time researching emerging technologies and educating young people about the future of work through my startup WAYE.

5 Ways AI Is Impacting How Brands Use Social Media
At the beginning of 2019, there were an estimated 2.77 billion social network users worldwide, a number that's continuing to grow. Artificial intelligence is making its way into nearly every industry and facet of life, and social media is no exception. AI influences much of what we do on social networks, from gathering invaluable user data to enabling Facebook's use of neural networks and image recognition to find and tag friends. As the use of AI for social media marketing continues to gain popularity, social media's uses are expanding far beyond networking and connecting with old friends, especially for brands looking to leverage social media to better connect with their consumers. In this article, we answer the question, "How does social media use AI?" and outline 5 ways in which brands are using AI for social media marketing.
EE hails BAFTA night success for 5G
In a somewhat novel way of showcasing the possibilities of low-latency and high-speed next-gen mobile networks, EE lauded what it called the "runaway success" of its 5G-powered'AI Stylist' at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). How it worked was this. By using a digital'supermodel', going by the name of Shudu, EE created a holograph which appeared on the red carpet. Using a mixture of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the AI Stylist could also be accessed from home through an online chatbot. The clever bit was that chatbot users could'interact' with Shudu in pretty much real-time โ recorded latency speeds were a sprightly 15 milliseconds โ and receive tailored tips about how best to emulate the red-carpet looks without spending a fortune.
The Rise of the Computer-Generated Celebrity
A new generation of celebrities is selling out concerts, starring in commercials, and amassing huge Instagram followings. But none of them exist--corporeally, anyway. In recent years, and starting in Japan, technology and social media have spawned a digital demimonde of computer-generated stars, ranging from fake musicians and models to company mascots who appear as holograms (like Betty Crocker, with AI). When they're not entertaining you, they're trying to convince you of their humanity, and even the more cartoonish among them have fleshed-out personalities. In a way, it's the purest expression of celebrity, which has always been an elaborate illusion.
