Ukrainian drones strike Sevastopol museum and key Russian oil refineries
Ukrainian drones have struck a historic museum in Russia-annexed Sevastopol in Crimea, igniting a roof fire, as Russian authorities slashed nighttime train schedules amid intensifying air attacks across the peninsula and deep into Russia. Sevastopol's Russian-installed governor, Mikhail Razvozhayev, announced the damage on Telegram early on Wednesday. "This building is not just a museum, it is a symbol of resilience, which has repeatedly taken the blows of the enemy." Razvozhayev said that during World War II's Siege of Sevastopol, "the Panorama building was subjected to massed bombing by German aviation". He declared: "The enemy will pay for this sacrilege!"
Ukraine's navy chief says Russian warships are leaving Crimean hub in Black Sea
The Russian navy's Black Sea Fleet has been forced to rebase nearly all its combat-ready warships from occupied Crimea to other locations, and its main naval hub is becoming ineffectual because of attacks by Kyiv, Ukraine's navy chief said. Vice-Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa said Ukrainian missile and naval drone strikes had caused heavy damage to the Sevastopol base, a logistics hub for repairs, maintenance, training and ammunition storage among other important functions for Russia. "They were established over many decades, possibly centuries. And clearly they are now losing this hub," Neizhpapa told Reuters in a rare interview in the port city of Odesa ahead of Ukraine Navy Day on Sunday. More than 28 months since Russia's full-scale invasion, Kyiv has dealt a series of stinging blows to Moscow in the Black Sea although Ukrainian ground troops are on the back foot across a sprawling front.
Large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Crimea cuts power, burns refinery
Fox News' Greg Palkot on the latest from the war in Ukraine as more weapons are sent from U.S. A massive Ukrainian drone attack on Crimea early Friday caused power cutoffs in the city of Sevastopol and set a refinery ablaze in southern Russia, Russian authorities said. The drone raids marked Kyiv's attempt to strike back during Moscow's offensive in northeastern Ukraine, which has added to the pressure on outnumbered and outgunned Ukrainian forces who are waiting for delayed deliveries of crucial weapons and ammunition from Western partners. Ukraine has not commented on the attack or claimed responsibility for it. The Russian Defense Ministry said air defenses downed 51 Ukrainian drones over Crimea, another 44 over the Krasnodar region and six over the Belgorod region. It said Russian warplanes and patrol boats also destroyed six sea drones in the Black Sea.
Russia says 19 Ukrainian drones downed over Crimea, Black Sea, and regions
Russian aerial defence systems destroyed a wave of 19 Ukrainian drones that were launched overnight in attacks against targets in the Russia-annexed Crimean peninsula, the surrounding Black Sea and other regions of Russia. The Russian defence ministry said early on Thursday that it had "thwarted" the attacks by Ukraine's aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). "In the night from 20th to 21st September, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to commit a terrorist attack with lethal drones on sites in the Russian Federation was intercepted," the defence ministry said on the Telegram messaging app. "Air defence systems destroyed 19 Ukrainian UAVs over the Black Sea and the territory of the Republic of Crimea, and one each over the territories of Kursk, Belgorod and Oryol regions," the ministry said. The Belgorod and Kursk regions of Russia border eastern Ukraine, while Oryol is closer to the capital, Moscow.
Russia says destroyed 42 Ukraine-launched drones over Crimea
Russia's defence ministry has said its air defence forces destroyed a large-scale Ukrainian-launched drone attack on the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Crimea has been targeted by Kyiv since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, but has come under more intense, increased attacks in recent weeks. The Russian Ministry of Defence said early on Friday its forces shot down nine drones, while 33 others "were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed without reaching the target". It did not elaborate on whether there had been any damage or casualties. It added that it had also shot down a Ukraine-launched missile over the Kaluga region, which borders the Moscow region.
Ukraine drone attack damages building in central Moscow: Russian officials
A Ukrainian military drone has damaged a building in central Moscow, causing an explosion that was heard across the city's business district in the latest attack on the Russian capital by unmanned aerial vehicles. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app that air defence systems had shot down a drone early on Friday morning and debris had fallen on the city's Expo Center. The Expo Center โ a large event space used for major exhibitions โ is located less than 5km (3.1 miles) from the Kremlin. A video published by Russian media outlets showed thick smoke rising next to skyscrapers in the city. The Russian defence ministry said that Ukraine launched the drone attack at about 4am local time (01:00 GMT) "using an unmanned aerial vehicle against objects located in Moscow and the Moscow region".
Russia says 13 Ukrainian drones downed on way to attack Sevastopol, Moscow
Russian forces took down more than a dozen Ukrainian drones flying towards the capital Moscow and the city of Sevastopol in the annexed Crimean peninsula, according to the country's defence ministry. The attack on Moscow on Thursday is the latest in a series of Ukrainian drone raids deep inside Russian territory. The defence ministry said in a statement that two drones "flying in the direction of the city of Moscow were destroyed", while 11 others were brought down near the city of Sevastopol. "No objects, either in the city or in the water area were damaged," he said on the Telegram messaging app. One drone was shot down over the sea, five were intercepted by Russia's electronic warfare forces and two water surface drones were destroyed on the outer shore, he added. There was no immediate comment from Kyiv on the attack on the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.
Massive Crimea oil depot fire caused by drone strike, governor says
A massive Crimea oil reservoir fire broke out after the site was hit by a drone, according to video posted Saturday. A Ukrainian drone strike caused a massive fire to erupt at an oil depot in Crimea, a Russia-appointed official reported Saturday. Mikhail Razvozhayev, Russia's selected governor of Sevastopol, said that authorities had spotted two "enemy drones" that attacked the depot, with four tanks burned down as a result. Local forces were able to shoot down a third drone and disable a fourth through radio-electronic means. Razvozhayev assigned the fire the highest level of difficulty to extinguish, but he claimed the fire had at least been contained.
Reported Ukraine drone strike ignites major fuel blaze on Crimea
A massive fire was ignited in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol following a suspected drone attack on a fuel storage tank. The blaze was assigned the highest ranking in terms of how complicated it will be to extinguish, Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor, wrote on Telegram on Saturday. The fire was still burning but it had been contained and no one was injured. The oil reservoir fire did not cause any casualties and would not hinder fuel supplies in Sevastopol, he said. "The four fuel tanks that were hit, they are practically burnt out already," said Razvozhayev, adding an area of 1,000 square metres (11,000 square feet) had been engulfed in flames.
