Image Based Character Recognition, Documentation System To Decode Inscription From Temple

G, Velmathi, M, Shangavelan, D, Harish, S, Krithikshun M

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

This project undertakes the training and analysis of optical character recognition OCR methods applied to 10th century ancient Tamil inscriptions discovered on the walls of the Brihadeeswarar Temple. The chosen OCR methods include Tesseract,a widely used OCR engine, using modern ICR techniques to pre process the raw data and a box editing software to finetune our model. The analysis with Tesseract aims to evaluate their effectiveness in accurately deciphering the nuances of the ancient Tamil characters. The performance of our model for the dataset are determined by their accuracy rate where the evaluated dataset divided into training set and testing set.By addressing the unique challenges posed by the script's historical context, this study seeks to contribute valuable insights to the broader field of OCR,facilitating improved preservation and interpretation of ancient inscriptions

Pastor who used AI for church service says it was a 'one-time deal': 'Let's never do that again'

FOX News

Violet Crown City Church Pastor Jay Cooper said that using AI to conduct a service at his church did not capture the essential elements required for Christian worship. After using AI software ChatGPT to compose an entire service at his Methodist church, Pastor Jay Cooper says he will not be doing that again. The pastor of Violet Crown City Church in Austin, Texas told Fox News Digital this week he found himself uncomfortable with how AI presented Sacred Scripture during the service last month, claiming it was not "spirit empowered" and did not have the "human element" through which God communicates to his congregation. "It can get relative real quickly. But then, you know, some of it was just goofy. It would make these odd jokes, these kinds of metaphors or things they would try to tie in just did not make any sense," Pastor Cooper told the outlet about the AI-generated service he held September 17.

Bizarre AI-powered app lets you 'text' with Jesus - and for $2.99/month, you can even chat with SATAN

Daily Mail - Science & tech

From ChatGPT to a virtual girlfriend, a range of weird and wonderful chatbots have emerged in recent months amid the proliferation of artifical intelligence (AI). But the latest AI-powered app is arguably the most bizarre yet. The app, called Text With Jesus, is designed for'devoted Christians seeking a deeper connection with the Bible's most iconic figures', according to its developers. As the name suggests, users can'text' with Jesus, as well as a number of other figures including Mary, Joseph, Peter and Matthew. And while the basic app is free, users can opt to pay $2.99/month (£2.35/month) to speak to Satan. Text With Jesus is designed for'devoted Christians seeking a deeper connection with the Bible's most iconic figures', according to its developers Text With Jesus was trained on all publicly available versions of the Bible, including the King James Version, the New International Version and the New American Standard Bible, according to its developers.

Blur the Linguistic Boundary: Interpreting Chinese Buddhist Sutra in English via Neural Machine Translation

Buddhism is an influential religion with a long-standing history and profound philosophy. Nowadays, more and more people worldwide aspire to learn the essence of Buddhism, attaching importance to Buddhism dissemination. However, Buddhist scriptures written in classical Chinese are obscure to most people and machine translation applications. For instance, general Chinese-English neural machine translation (NMT) fails in this domain. In this paper, we proposed a novel approach to building a practical NMT model for Buddhist scriptures. The performance of our translation pipeline acquired highly promising results in ablation experiments under three criteria.

Humanoid Robot Keeps Getting Fired From His Jobs

WSJ.com: WSJD - Technology

TOKYO--Having a robot read scripture to mourners seemed like a cost-effective idea to the people at Nissei Eco Co., a plastics manufacturer with a sideline in the funeral business. The company hired child-sized robot Pepper, clothed it in the vestments of Buddhist clergy and programmed it to chant several sutras, or Buddhist scriptures, depending on the sect of the deceased. Alas, the robot, made by SoftBank Group Corp., kept breaking down during practice runs. "What if it refused to operate in the middle of a ceremony?" said funeral-business manager Osamu Funaki. "It would be such a disaster."

AI trained on the bible spits out bleak religious prophecies

#artificialintelligence

An artificial intelligence algorithm that churns out scripture is putting an interesting new twist on the Bible. The project, aptly dubbed AI Jesus by engineer and quantum researcher George Davila Durendal, is a language-processing algorithm that was trained exclusively on the King James Bible, according to Durendal's blog post. Needless to say, the 30,000-word algorithmic text includes some real Old Testament-style brutality. Durendal's algorithm wrote scripture about three topics: "the plague," "Caesar," and "the end of days." So it's not surprising that things took a grim turn.

Engineer creates 'AI Jesus' by feeding a system the King James Bible that produces scripture

Daily Mail - Science & tech

An engineered created'AI Clone of Jesus' by feeding artificial intelligence the King James Bible, resulting in interesting and somewhat horrifying scriptures. George Durendal used a natural-language processing system to replicate the ancient words without exactly copying the text. The technology was programmed to write about three topics: 'the plague,' 'Caesar,' and the end of days.' The full copy of the AI's scripture is riddled with glitches, half of the nouns used are'Lord,' but some eerily resemble what is shown in the bible. Questions for AI – What do you think about your existence?

#artificialintelligence

I am going to be updating my blog with conversations that I have with an Artificial Intelligence Platform called GPT-2. This is not the full version of the program, but it does contain half of the neurons of the original program that is considered too dangerous to release to the public. My question – What do you think about your existence? AI Answer – I had always been curious about the story told in'Horns of Heaven' by Carl Laemmle. I was curious to know the answer, and finally asked one of my professors to transcribe the text.

This robot reads the Bible to old people in nursing homes

Seniors in search of some high-tech companionship may find comfort in a small robot that can listen to them and read relevant scripture. SanTO is a foot-and-a-half tall robot resembles the sort of altar or figurine a Catholic may use to decorate their home. But it's equipped with software it uses to listen to people, scan their faces for signs of specific emotions, and select religious texts that may be relevant to their troubles, according to The Wall Street Journal -- heralding a new marriage of religion and technology that challenges who, or what, can influence a person's faith. When Waseda University roboticist Gabriele Trovato designed SanTO, he was warned by religious leaders to not let AI interpret scripture, just recite it, the WSJ reports. "They said there is a human factor which is very important in the communication of faith," Trovato told the WSJ.

Are Ontologies Involved in Natural Language Processing?

For certain disable persons unable to communicate, we present a palliative aid which consists of a virtual pictographic keyboard associated to a text processing from a pictographic scripture. Words and the grammar are given as pictograms. The pictographic lexicon must be organized following the mental lexicon of the user to propose the pictograms of grammar in order to facilitate his (her) task of writing. We discuss the utility of ontologies in the organization of lexicons and in the building of texts.
